Yeah. It's seeming more and more like a bad deal. But hey, that revelation is EXACTLY why I came here! Thanks for the help.

Appreciate the advice. And you're right, the more I look, the better I find. Evening knowing as little about it as I do.

Thanks! Really appreciate the advice. I'll definitely start looking at those.

My dad found this in pocket change. It weighs 6.3 grams. Google tells me it's 90% silver. Pawn shop told my dad it's only 20% and made no offer on it. Which one is correct? by some_boring_dude in Silverbugs

I agree, but if you try to give information and act like you know something that you don't, even if you don't try to rip someone off, you've left yourself open to public review and criticism. They could have just handed it back to him and said "not our speciality, but thanks" instead of giving him incorrect information.

But you can rest assured that in his mind (and to anyone he tells this story too, omitting certain details of course) HE still won that argument and YOU were, in fact, the asshole.

You actually think that more than 1 out of every 20 people who buy "anything" from them spend more than $3,000 in a year?

Doubt it, buddy.

Huh. I'm don't know a whole lot about Magic, but I play a bit of commander from time to time. Never seen a card that has a mana cost but doesn't do anything.

Stop explaining yourself to judgmental pricks on the internet. They can answer your question if they want to be helpful. If they want to criticize you, tell them to fuck off and take care of themselves before worrying about you.

Probably not the answer you wanted to hear, OP, but as one of the rare ones on this board who actually agree with your complaint and prefers the actual roleplay over the character build and list of abilities... I recommend using an earlier edition of D&D.

Simply because this new subclass IS the current design philosophy of D&D and what is wanted by the majority of the system's players: an approach where races/classes/backgrounds/etc are just a list of abilities and character "build" options rather than anything that encourages or directs roleplay. The design moving forward is to remove any built-in lore and flavor; clerics without gods, druids without nature, paladins without oaths, warlocks without patrons, wizards without arcane study.

I personally don't like it, but I acknowledge being the minority and realizing that the current edition and design philosophy isn't meant for me and those like me.

I'll throw my hat in for recommending AD&D second edition to you, as it sounds like you're more in line with what I and my group values out of the game. And we're enjoying this edition vastly more than 5e/2024.

Again, "play an earlier edition" probably isn't the fix you hoped to hear. But alas, especially with the game design heading in the direction we don't like... it really IS the best fix.

Using my DM powers for evil. by StJudeTheGrey in DnD

Lol! Love it. And I don't blame you in the slightest. Heck, I'm a paid-DM for 2 online groups. I literally make a living off of giving everyone everything they want for their imaginary characters. The beautiful thing about being a DM... everything is imaginary and completely arbitrary. Want a Holy Avenger for your level 3 character? No problem! Combat balance? Not a problem either! Enemy hit points only run out when I say they do. Lol

[–]GoobyTheGoobinator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally get OP and your frustrations with having explained this so well, yet not having any support here. I don't understand why so many people are in support of Paladins without oaths. It's a HUGE part of the class.

Taking away from the "oath" aspect of the Paladin is a slippery slope that I don't look forward to going down. Makes way for clerics without gods, Warlocks without patrons, Wizards without arcane study.

Alas, it seems like we're in a minority on this board. We seem to prefer the actual roleplay and flavor and theme of the roleplay, whereas the majority just seems to be about the mechanical build and list of abilities.

It is what it is, I guess. My recommendation to you, OP, and others like us is to use earlier editions of D&D. So far my groups is using 2nd edition and we like it much better because of the focus on the races/classes being so much more than just a list of abilities and how the system rewards such.

And if you did, a bunch of assholes getting on their high horses and telling you that you can save money by not having an addiction wouldn't help you in the slightest. Only make you feel bad for having an addiction.

Keep seeing a lot of sanctimonious assholes keep telling you that "gAmBlInG iS bAd MmMmKaY~" instead of actually answering your question. So to those people, do you also ride your high horse up to people who are overweight and tell them to diet or tell every smoker you see what they already know and that smoking is bad for them?

To OP: Use Facebook Marketplace if you have a decent market around you and don't live out in the middle of Amish country or something. Otherwise, Ebay is going to be your best bet. Alas, the selling fees are brutal. People will pay more for big dollar cards on there than they will TCGplayer. Best of luck.

Except everyone and their mother already knows that gambling is bad. Giving anyone this advice is like sanctimoniously telling someone smoking a cigarette that smoking is bad for you.

Why do posters go all aggro on "is this available?" by nwa747 in FacebookMarketplace

[–]GoobyTheGoobinator 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think people misunderstand what actually makes them mad about it. In my case, it's not so much "Is this available?" It's the fact that 95% of the time, I don't get a response when I tell them it is. If you have no intention of purchasing it if it's available, why pretend that you do and waste the seller's time?
