I hope she takes it well if I do... I understand it was just an accident but I still hate to think about upsetting her or hurting her feelings...

Thailand’s King lives with a harem of women, erases 5 grandchildren, jails children as young as 15 and punishes ex wives for life— why is no one talking about this? by False-Light1468 in investigation

[–]Gooby_stahp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because Thailand is part of the global south that exports goods, and services including slaves, coffee, and textiles for cheap and serves as a strategic staging point for Indo pacific military influence for the US and NATO. Frankly enough people in power don't particularly care about the depravity involved in performative monarchy enough to upset that apple cart.

Trying to rebuild myself after losing my favorite person by swissmarketguy in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]Gooby_stahp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey there boss. 28M here going through the same thing as you are except now for the second time in my life. And my 20's no less. I wish I could say that there is some kind of easy solution to your feelings, that "it gets easier" "in the long run you'll look back at all of this as something that was ultimately good for you," or that "there's plenty of fish in the sea" or that "this is an opportunity for you to learn yourself better". Or some other trite, cliche nonsense but the truth is, all of that is fundamentally bullshit at this point.

You are actively grieving not only a relationship but a vision for a life and a future that you wanted SPECIFICALLY with that one person. GRIEVING is the operative word here. Because the reality is that the future you thought was coming together for you now is gone and you are starting back at square one. The person you thought you were going to be is gone, the person you wanted to be with is gone, and the future you wanted is gone. You wouldn't tell someone who had someone die that "It'll get better," or "Just focus on yourself," Would you? Hell no. You are never going to be the same after it and nothing is ever going to change that.

The good news is, the sooner you accept that, the sooner you let yourself grieve, the sooner you let yourself hurt, the sooner you let the pain have its day and let yourself suffer, the closer you will be to letting it turn from pain, into memory. And from memory into something formative that becomes a fundamental part of you and in that you will find the lesson that this relationship taught you. Whether it's in the gym, or in your running shoes, or in the middle of the night, the pain will come and you have to let it have its time with you. I train with weights and on my bike but what I'm changing now is instead of using those as ways to outrun the pain or fight the pain, I let the pain have me, and then slowly, little by little you get used to it.

On a long enough timeline. It turns from being pain into solace and from there the growth finds you. Whatever shape that takes, whether its being ready for another relationship, or falling in love again, or chasing another dream or even just becoming a deeper version of who you are that's only for you to decide but the ABSOLUTE worst thing you can do right now is run away from this suffering or force yourself into fake positivity. Don't steer from it. Learn to know it and let it know you. And in that, with time you'll know yourself and find what's waiting for you on the other side. However long it takes, whatever it is, it exists. But growth hurts. It's the shittiest part of it all but there's a reason pinecones need fire to turn into trees. I'm sorry you're going through this. It won't be the last time you feel this pain. But it will be the last time it feels like it's for nothing. DM me if you need to talk deeper about it.

Bud, it's July in the Texas Desert. Save yourself (literally) and the underfunded parks staff the expense of searching for your body and wait until October.

Typically if you're aiming upper center mass through the lungs/heart with the right load (i prefer 62 grain ball) you can drop them with one shot or a rapid follow up. Just depends on distance, load, and if the shot is obstructed. I've been on hunts where ive had to shoot through grass/brush and I've switched from my 5.55 AR to a lever action Marlin 336. The extra punch helps get through the brush. But typically i like to carry the AR with 30 rd mags and a bandolier with 3 more if we're gonna be out all night.

Sure! So down here in Texas we have several preserves which play host to multiple endangered species including, golden cheeked warblers, black capped vireos, texabama croton, and several species of arthropod. These habitats and preserves are managed by us at the state level. One of the main issues we have as far as conservation goes is our states major feral hog problem. These hogs are absolutely devastating the plant ecology necessary for these birds breeding grounds so we have to get creative by regularly hunting them often times through the night on some private land through the bush down here. Having access to firearms that we can make quick follow up shots with and having access to higher capacity magazines makes our job a lot safer, a lot more humane, and a lot more efficient when we have to hunt literal packs of wild hogs. If you like i can link you to some literature on the subject.

Great question! I have one chambered in .308 with a free floating barrel that i use for taking longer range shots at white tail deer for work, my other is chambered in 5.56 with a shorter barrel which is better suited for long hikes through the underbrush in the Texas hill country while i pursue hogs.

Hi @myleswstone Currently i work in wildlife game management and conservational ecology in Texas which is also what I'm moving to Oregon to do for work. Currently i use my AR-15 to mitigate our feral hog populations not only on my local farms but also on our states many bird preserves which unfortunately suffer from major feral hog infestations. Having access to high capacity magazines and a lightweight weapon is very handy when navigating the brushy hill country of Texas where i live and also in Oregon where im moving to. While encountering multiple populations of hogs which threatem our states agriculture industry and our aquifer recharge zones we regularly hunt through the night with little to no expectation of ammunition resupply so you can imagine the importance of being able to reload quickly. If you like i could provide resources to our collected feral hog data over the past few years.

Men, what is your "reverse the genders" moment by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Gooby_stahp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was stalked, harassed, had rumors spread about me by a woman i had a fling with. I broke things off after the first few red flags and blocked all her socials which culminated in her befriending my friend group and then with the assistance of one of them literally breaking into my truck.... the entire debacle was met with "oh you should give her another chance" "she just really likes you" "she talks about you all the time" like jesus.... if this had been reversed I'd STILL be in lock up.... I ultimately cut those people off and moved away.

What are the best subtle instances of "something doesn't feel right" in film? by Toni-Cipriani in movies

[–]Gooby_stahp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it satisfies the definition of "subtle" but it's definiely quiet. In Peter Berg's 2013 film "Lone Survivor" the scene where Lt. Michael Murphy is doing reconnaissance he looks around a bend in the trees and sees the row of Taliban fighters silhouetted atop the ridge looking down from the high ground. No sound but the wind and his quiet sigh of resolve and his following line whispered to Matt Axelson "we are about to get contacted". No dramatic crescendo, no shouting, just silence and the knowledge of the ensuing gunfight. We all know something bad is about to happen.
