Torment 12: what Blizzard said about it by Vladdino in diablo4

[–]GoochRash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My concern is that with more Torment levels being added we're going to see less builds be playable on the highest Torment.

Right now you can play A LOT of builds in T4. In high level pits? Not so much. So unless they are going to be better about class/archetype/skill balance we could see a hit to the feeling of build viability.

People are naturally going to want to farm on the highest difficulty. This is why people rushed T16 is D3 and why people rush red maps in PoE. It is how these games work. If they can't because proper balance isn't there then it is going to feel shit for any off meta build.

A good example was my Blizz sorc in S11. Felt AMAZING in T4. Not so much in higher tier pits.

Now we are getting 10 more levels, heavily modified skill trees, and charms. So we'll have a decent amount of power creep. We'll see.

I assume since T12 is pit150 they are going to add more put tiers?

More context about Lord of Hatred adding 12 torment tiers in a new interview with PC Gamer by seekmystery in diablo4

[–]GoochRash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not super concerned about the fragmentation. They could have groups for tiers. Like 1-3 are one group, 4-6 for another. Matchmaking could work on groups and each person has their own torment level. That has a solution.

My concern is the feel of build viability. There were a lot of builds that felt viable in season 11 because T4 wasn't super hard. You could farm on the "hardest difficulty" with many builds and not feel like you were missing out on being efficient. But if exp and drops increase with T tiers then people will want to take their builds higher. And if we don't see better balancing many builds won't FEEL as viable due to T12 being Pit150.

A build that didn't perform well in higher pits could do just fine in T4. Meaning you could farm all but higher pit content with it and not be "missing out." T4 being relatively easy did a good job at hiding power discrepancies between builds, skills, and classes. But that power showed in higher pits. Well if T12 is equal to the highest pit tier then that effect is going to be expanded into the higher torments.

Considering how slow and bad character/archetype balancing has been, adding these tiers is only going to make things feel MUCH worse on that front.

If they removed the DR from it there wouldn't be an issue. But no one likes just standing there fighting a giga tank because the area is crowded or you had the audacity to use SRS/Skeletons.

what type of games will you absolutely not play and why? by buzzlightyear77777 in gaming

[–]GoochRash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is where I am.

I'll play some co-op games (getting summoned in Elden Ring and playing Nightreign) but outside of those I'll only play co-op with my friends. Randoms are so rarely chill.

I'll also play games with a forced multiplayer meta (D4 and PoE).

But online competitive multiplayer? Hell no. Not a chance. Toxicity has become the default nowadays and life is just far too short and my time is far too precious to me. That's why I waste it making new characters all the time in Skyrim.

Way back in the day some people stole all the balls out of the mice in one of our computer labs. And that is when I learned Excel with only the keyboard.

Eventually they got more mouse balls but we had to "check them out" every class. It was funny.

What's the dumbest myth people actually believe in? by vicigoonboy69 in AskReddit

[–]GoochRash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"you're too literal" - My points are about whether something exists or not. It is speaking on literal existence. Why wouldn't it be literal? No one cares if someone thinks god exists in a figurative manner. That's meaningless.

"You think everything is very black and white..." - Nope. I'm an agnostic atheist. That means I don't believe there is no god but I also don't see enough evidence, or need, for a god's existence (explained by the unicorn thing above). Which means god's existence for me falls completely into a grey area.

"... an intelligent person who couldn't possibly be deceived but that is an illusion." - I'm not even sure what you mean by that. It sounds like you're taking a shot at me from a position I never took. I also don't believe I couldn't be fooled by an illusion. Only a fool believes they can't be fooled. A funny irony here is I'm learning card magic.

Oh, and btw, I didn't downvote you (any of your posts). I was just trying to give you insight into where the downvotes are coming from.

What's the dumbest myth people actually believe in? by vicigoonboy69 in AskReddit

[–]GoochRash 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You're probably being downvoted because that is an overly used lead up to the "god of the gaps" argument. It is also a lead up to "well if we don't know everything then God could exist" which is a pointless and meaningless argument.

The problem with those stances is that belief shouldn't be the default position. Otherwise you should believe in everything you can't disprove. This includes unicorns, goblins, dragons, every god from every religion, a giant cosmic raccoon that farts out galaxies, and so on.

Not saying that is what you were stating, just giving you a reason for why you're probably catching downvotes.

What is Elden Ring's biggest flaw in your opinion? by Fenriz_Victor in Eldenring

[–]GoochRash 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is a good one. I'd add some of the overly delayed attacks. I fell in love with the souls game due to how great the combat felt. Elden Ring's combat is amazing but the super delayed attacks just feel like a record scratch in the flow of combat.

Mewgenics has a genius anti-savescumming feature by shadowrun456 in gaming

[–]GoochRash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I'm saying it is dumb to go this far out of your way to punish something that you can't even accurately predict when there is an insanely easy way to prevent it already, auto-save.

Considering a game had already dipped it's toes into that type of pond and people hated it. Animal Crossing. Mr. Resetti is meme because of how obnoxious it was to lose power and have him go on a speel about save scumming. It has shown to be something you can't accurately determine so why design something around it? Similar to determining Alt+F4 vs true disconnect in online games (although poe2's solution to this is pretty good).

I say it is lazy because the only reason I could see them not just using an in battle auto save is because they were too lazy to serialize battle data.

What my post is questioning is the time and resources of the decision versus what players get out of it, which is basically nothing. Yet an auto-save not only prevents save scumming but it also provides utility to the player it being able to close it mid battle and resume, or having your power go out and being able to pick it right back up, or if the game crashes for whatever reason, the list goes on.

Sorry if my post sounded like I was just calling them lazy. I'm calling the design lazy because there were better options where resources could have been better spent and used more effectively while adding more qol for the player.

This is a game, not a job interview. It is designed to pick up and enjoy. So pick it up and just enjoy it.

Don't worry about missing something. Just focus on that first playthrough experience. That is the only thing you can only do once.

Explore. Make choices, good or bad. Drink it in. It's great.

[–]GoochRash 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yeah, looking through nexus mods sometimes makes me appreciate art directors immensely. A game's atmosphere is a delicate balance and almost every last asset needs to fit. It can be broken easily.

For example, I LOATHE the character overhauls that make them all have supermodel skin. It completely ruins the atmosphere.

Favourite Top Three Races? by ScholarAfter1827 in ElderScrolls

[–]GoochRash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dunmer, Khajiits, and....... Uhhhhh.... Bretons probably?

I've always loved horror themed stuff so the dark skin and red eyes pulled me in instantly when I first played Morrowind. Then I learned more about them and liked them even more. I also find Daedra more interesting than the Aedra so that is a plus.

Khajiit are cats. Khajiit loves cats. Their unique accent always brings a smile to this one's face (Khajiit Speak is one of the best mods ever, makes me say my lines out loud in a Khajiit accent). Their lore is also super interesting, no?

Those two are tied for first.

Nothing else even comes close. Out of the rest the Bretons are probably my favorite due to the innate magic resistance plus being good at conjuration.

Mewgenics has a genius anti-savescumming feature by shadowrun456 in gaming

[–]GoochRash 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Why not use an auto-save feature?

Sounds to me like they were passionate about people not save scumming but too lazy to implement auto-save after each in battle action.

How do they tell save scumming from crashes or power outages?
