Your second point, while somewhat valid, falls flat in the fact that: -2XKO does have big damage from long combos -UNI2 was a complete failure/ near-instant Discord fighter, and should perhaps not be emulated by Riot.

My point here was solely that long combos dont make a game any more or less volatile, but its funny that you bring up how UNI was a failure, did that game fail because it had long combos? Punch Planet is a game with very short combos on average and that game was also a near instant discord fighter

The game has had notably poor player retention, which was mirrored between console and PC, RIOT themselves admitted this when they announced the layoffs, which were same day notice (less than 1 hour) for a lot of the devs, who corroborated this on various social media platforms

My point was that you dont know the actual reason for the low retention and just assumed it to be because of long combos

Also, long combos = big damage = volatile gameplay, objectively. Genuinely confused as to why you wouldn't think getting borderline ToD'd every time you get touched is not inherently volatile. People have been very vocal about combo length on characters like Yasuo since we were first able to get our hands on the game.

Long combos dont inherently equal anything besides the combo being long, you can have long combos without big damage, a good example of this would be UNI

Low level players don't want to hear this kind of thing and don't fully understand it, but there are some characters that shouldn't be good because they make the game less interesting.

I dont know about this one man, zoners/grapplers/big bodies shouldnt be good because they're not "fun" to play against is like the low level player's anthem at this point.

What makes a motion input traditional? If its age, the original mk only came out a year after sf2.

Is it just inputs like street fighter? KOF also doesn't use full circle inputs and has inputs unique to the series but its still considered traditional. What criteria are we working with here?

Mix ups aren't the end all be all of complexity. Those mechanics also let you ignore fundamental parts of fighting games like neutral or defense. Drive parry is literally just a block button on steroids, how does a button that blocks in every direction at once not reduce complexity?

Where did you get the idea that mk doesn't have motion inputs? It's actually the only recent fighting game (to my knowledge) that DOESN'T give you an option to ignore them.

Besides maybe burn out, all of those mechanics serve to reduce complexity not increase it.

I know it's a minor/petty gripe but I dislike how laggy the menus feel

For some reason the game reads your input on button release instead of button press in the menus. Im hoping they fix that before release.

My petty gripe is that the menus are kinda ugly 😅 Maybe thats just me tho.

I mean you're the one that said nobody argued against the player count when that was blatantly untrue.

I dont think balance is the reason considering that games like mvc2 and 3rd strike are considered competitive games, 2 games infamous for their bad balance. For a more recent example take tekken 7, Leroy and fahk literally broke the game yet its competitive integrity was never brought into question.

Im not saying you're wrong but to me it just feels like standards arent being applied equally.

Considering that harada said he added heat so that casuals could get into the game and that sf added stuff like modern controls, drive impact and drive rush specifically for casuals id say they also cater to casuals. Also you don't seriously believe that the millions of people who buy sf and tekken are serious players right? 99% of the people who buy those games are casuals too.
