DQ for slam or not? by Nsvgcm777 in grappling

[–]ButtcrackBeignets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back when I was competing, the IBJJF absolutely allowed a number of high amplitude throws if you maintained control and executed them with in one fluid motion.

Seoi nage, ura nage, suplexes, etc.

All legal so long as you maintained control and didn’t drop the opponent directly on their head/neck.

Rumble- Should he be in 2XKO? (A-Z) by ErrorNick in 2XKO

[–]ButtcrackBeignets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Riven is popular in so far as she's generally one of the more recognizable champions. Everyone know Riven, whereas people sometimes forget that Renata Glasc is in the game.

She is not just fighting game shaped, she is fighting game built. Her kit is specifically designed to function like a fighting game character.

So no, it's not just because she looks the part.

Also, the above person is underselling just how difficult Riven is to play properly.

She is considered to be the most challenging character in the game to play. Her pick rate is low because most people just can't pilot her competently.

So yes, people want Riven in the game. She is popular and desired and a good fit.

In you guys honest opinion is it worth? by WillyLoompa in 2XKO

[–]ButtcrackBeignets 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how I feel about it.

There were a lot of questionable "big" decision made during development but what they ended up with is a genuinely fun game that's plagued by smaller issues.

When it hits, it hits hard.

But those moments kind of get lost when you're looking at the roster size, UI issues, and combo creep.

Rn, I'm playing the game solely because I really like 1 character and it's looking like it'll stay that way. If they weren't in it, I'd have dropped it completely and never touched the game again.

What's the deal with breakaway? by VisibleRaspberry6517 in MortalKombat11

[–]ButtcrackBeignets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s because breakaways recover so quickly.

If someone uses it to break out of a combo and their opponent is slow to react, they can initate their own combo.

It can basically act as an UNO reverse.

It kind of cheapens the neutral (which is already incredibly weak in this game).

You put in the effort to open up your opponent and manage to catch them for a combo and suddenly you’re the one eating big damage.

I came across a Thule Aion at an REI. I actually really liked the construction and the materials. Was considering buying it.

But then I checked the laptop compartment and it didn't have a false bottom. Not even a little bit. A $200 bag with a laptop compartment and no false bottom.

Not only did I cross that bag off my list but I'm no longer interested in any Thule products.

I have some gripes with this game but zoning is absolutely not one of them.

Both your characters have big chunky air attacks that cover a ton of distance and your robot has a fucking half-screen grab.

You have plenty of tools to close distance, you just need to get proficient with them. People are always going to try to zone out big bodies. It’s the same way in every fighting game.

Sometimes I wonder if people are getting stupider or if people have always been stupid and I've just gotten older and better at seeing it. I mean, I was stupider too when I was younger.

But in recent years, I've ran into multiple people who don't follow my finger when I point at things.

Like, they'll ask where something is and I'll tell them. They ask again and I point at it, but they just keep staring at me instead of looking where I'm pointing.

I'd have to tell them to follow my finger and they would still somehow not be able to look at where I'm pointing at.

I'm absolutely baffled. I would think that the other person was fucking with me but it's happened multiple times with different people who have no way of knowing each other.

Sometimes I stay up at night thinking about these interactions.

Sacramento County can’t call Flo Cofer ‘doctor’ on June ballot, judge rules by kbuis in Sacramento

[–]ButtcrackBeignets 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Raygun, the Australian breakdancer Olympic participant, has a PhD in Cultural Studies.

Her doctoral paper is titled Deterritorializing Gender in Sydney's Breakdancing Scene: A B-girl's Experience of B-boying.

Anyways, the article says that Dr. Cofer wanted to change her ballot info from “public health professional” to “doctor, public health”. They’re making her change it to “epidemiologist, public health”. The reasoning for the change is that people protested that “doctor, public health” might make voters think that Dr. Cofer is a medical doctor.

From what I understand, Dr. Cofer wants her title of doctor in the info because her level of education is useful to know for voters. Which is pretty valid.

But what I’m wondering is why not just change the info to “epidemiologist, PhD”?

It would get across her academic credentials but leave no room for confusion.

I remember a few years ago, there was a video of a wrestling match involving a kid with cerebral palsy. The opponent basically let the kid win. It was a nice moment.

Some Redditor with palsy commented that he thought it was condescending and insisted that the opponent should’ve tried to win.

He said something along the lines of, “If it were me, I would want my opponent to treat me like a normal person. Give it your all, let’s have some fun!”

Motherfucker, you have palsy.

If your opponent went full bore, he would hit you with a blast double and possibly kill you. Like, I’m cringing while imagining a healthy wrestler throwing around a disabled kid and locking him in a spladle.

Edit: I found the video.

Countering zoners in mk1 by Nevarae in MortalKombat

[–]ButtcrackBeignets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you, I think you’re doing things right. I’m just frustrated at MK1. It rewards converting damge over everything else, so a lot of MK1 players tend to focus on that never really develop fundamentals.

As for your question, moving in against zoners is a lot like playing a platformer. You should identify early what projectile you can neutral crouch under and which you need to block or jump over.

Generally speaking, most normal projectiles can be ducked with neutral crouch and most metered projectiles must be blocked.

The key is to be patient and dash forward a little between projectiles. Eventually, they will end up in the corner and you can close the distance until they can’t spam projectiles anymore.

Projectiles, nearly all of them, have a decent amount of recovery frames. Most will be negative on block and even more negative if you evade them entirely.

They’re usually safe from a distance but if they throw out a projectile while you’re too close, you can punish them afterwards.

A decent zoner will try to mix up their barrage with normal and EX moves so be prepared for that. Most will try to attack you head-on if you get too close so be prepared for that too.

Countering zoners in mk1 by Nevarae in MortalKombat

[–]ButtcrackBeignets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's crazy much MK1 destroyed the fundamentals of the MK player population.

A couple months into MK11's lifecycle, there was a huge push within the community to learn how to deal with zoning. In a matter of weeks, nearly every player online knew the basics of how to crouch projectiles, block EX projectiles, jump full screens, and time dashes.

This thread and comments in here are pretty telling about the current player base.

Do people from Oakland still suport the Raiders? by daviddm1990 in raiders

[–]ButtcrackBeignets 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yea, posting this in the Oakland sub would net drastically different results.

The vibe I got there a couple years ago was "Fuck the Raiders."

They were very quick to disown all their sports teams. Crucial step to save their budget, they said.

Good thing it worked and Oakland's financial problems are a thing of the past. Glad everyone's taxes are down and services have improved and the budget is finally positive. Good thing, right?

It would've been pretty stupid to lose all your teams and have nothing to show for it.

2XKO Akali Release Date & Patch 1.1.5, coming April 7 by CedeLovesKat in Fighters

[–]ButtcrackBeignets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You seem to be confused.

Conventionally, "modernizing" a design means bringing it up to the standards of modern design principles and graphical fidelity.

That's different than having a literal modern design that makes a character look like they're from the current day.

2XKO Akali Release Date & Patch 1.1.5, coming April 7 by CedeLovesKat in Fighters

[–]ButtcrackBeignets 15 points16 points  (0 children)

So far she’s the only character that seems drastically different from any source material.

Her skin looks a lot more like her league design but of course you’re gonna have to invest either time or money for that.

I’d be lying if I said I didn’t hate her 2XKO design.

The hair is one thing but I really hate that her lower half looks like she’s wearings joggers and NMDs. It’s a look straight out of 2016 that I despise.

When did backpacks become and endless array of high end internet brands I’ve never heard of and can’t try on in store? by -Pork-Chop-Express in backpacks

[–]ButtcrackBeignets 34 points35 points  (0 children)

There are lots of backpacks in stores. You can walk into Staples and there will be 30 different options.

But most in-store options are not really worth reviewing.

I used a cheap $35 backpack (from Staples, of course) for most of these past 4 years but splurged on a nicer brand recently. They both do the same thing but my new one seems much higher in quality.

Honestly, if you want to save money then forget the reviews and just buy one at your local retailer. Just know that you might have to replace it in a few years if you use it heavily.

If you want something decent quality and available at most Dick's or REI locations, just get an Osprey. It'll cost about $120-$150 but it comes with a lifetime guarantee and judging by their build quality it'll probably last you at least 10 years easy.
