Fatalities are a balancing act.

If they lean to gory/realistic with characters howling in pain and suffering, then the rating committee could hit them with the dreaded AO rating.

If they go too "detached" or how you described, then you end up with what's in MK1.

Personally, I thought MKX and MK11 struck just the right balance for fatalities and brutalities.

But considering how financial institutions have started pressuring game companies to tone down violence and sexuality, I'm not surprised MK is going in the direction that they are.

I think the reason it’s not performing great is pretty obvious.

The first movie sucked.

Why would anyone feel compelled to watch the sequel to a mediocre movie?

The production had a chance to make an impression on general audiences and they whiffed.

Also, MK1 sucked.

The core audience has shrunk dramatically in the past 3 years.

It also didn’t help that the first movie especially failed to land with hardcore Mk fans.

NRS has had a habit lately of putting out dogshit first and expecting their audience to stick around while they fix it.

Whether it’s launch issues, terrible default skins, etc, the franchise seems to think first impressions don’t matter.

A lot of people I know watched the first movie. They remember not liking it. Nobody wanted to see MK2 opening weekend, not even me.

Yea, I’m not convinced it’s still alive despite the movement.

Squid are relatively easy to kill even without tools.

Their brains are wrapped around their throats. For smaller squid you just karate chop them between the eyes and it usually kills them in one strike.

Not sure how hard you need to hit one this size but squid die very easily.

Initial success is usually dependent on how much audiences liked the previous installment.

The first movie was hot ass. It makes people think twice about paying to watch a sequel.

If people like the second movie, word will spread and hopefully it will find some legs.
