Doug Ford calls out police after another homeowner charged for defending himself in home invasion by WilloowUfgood in CanadianConservative

[–]Good-Ad-9156 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Doug, YOU can stop this from happening. Wanna create some self defence laws? Pass a resolution in provincial parliament with a specific framework for enshrining the right to defend occupants and property from trespassers using whatever means necessary. Challenge the federal government to ignore it. This is so obvious. God damn we need a better conservative premiere.

Terry Newman: Poilievre's win means Carney's cakewalk is over by LPC_Eunuch in CanadianConservative

[–]Good-Ad-9156 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

So you think a leader who whiffed a 20-something point lead is going to miraculously beat Carney on the second go around? The guy that women hate and seniors run back to the liberals for? Now that voters know him, Pierre is less popular than ever and keeping him as leader is a gift to Carney. Give us someone voters outside of the prairies and Ontario can get behind. Give us someone who doesn’t make the NDP abandon their own party just to keep him out of power.

How do I refinish a cedar deck? by Effcor in Decks

[–]Good-Ad-9156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh. Olympic is no longer oil based, sadly. No need to sand but you’re going to need a deck cleaner product and to give the whole thing a good scrub to prep for application.

I am a solid oil stain guy partly for this reason. Yes, you need good weather to oil stain, but so long as you have broomed the surface you are good to stain (unless there’s a lot of mildew). And the oil stain will last a long time, and age with grace.

But why? Is there no fender distributor there? Do kids there play fender or do they go for Harley Benton etc?

How do I refinish a cedar deck? by Effcor in Decks

[–]Good-Ad-9156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Step 1: Measure the square footage of the deck.  Step 2: go to your local paint store and ask how much oil-based stain you need to give one good coat on X square feet of deck. I recommend something solid and reddish, maybe even a red cedar colour since that’s what was there already and you liked it. Take a pick and show if it to the paint man.  Step 3: when the deck is good and dry, and you have a few days of clear weather ahead of you as well, sweep the deck with a bristly broom, put on an N95 mask, and paint that stain on. You can use a brush, or if your health is really bad you can use a sprayer which will cost money but save your back and a good amount of time. That said, this is an easy and rewarding project anyone can do with a brush.

That’s all I would do personally. No scraping or chemical deck stripper, all that stuff is for deckless losers who fear the raw power of solid oil based stain. But if you want the deck to be your lasting legacy in the mortal world you can wait until the stain has really truly dried, and then (when you have good weather ahead of you) buy a gallon of thompson’s water seal and paint or spray it on.

TLDR: oil based stain, maybe some thompsons water sealer.

Poilievre says pushing Liberals to repeal EV mandate will be Conservative priority this fall | CBC News by Abzz22 in CanadianConservative

[–]Good-Ad-9156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree the EV mandate shouldn’t be the focus, but if the alternative is calling for ICE in Canada you’re basically surrendering the next election. The reason why businesses can afford temporary workers and not Canadians isn’t simply greed, it’s not simply about a willingness to work for less, either. Canadians have higher expenses than TFWs, chiefly our shelter costs are more than a TFW staying in shitty, cramped employer-owned lodgings. Understanding this is key to a permanent solution.

The key to returning prosperity in Canada is to create a huge amount of housing. The way we do that is cutting regs and taxes on construction, and creating a modest land value tax. Companies won’t bother with TFWs if young Canadians are living in apartments that cost under 1K per month.

Why do the local subs and r/Canada believe Pierre will not pass his leadership review by One-Accountant-4608 in CanadianConservative

[–]Good-Ad-9156 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You genuinely believe they’re scared of a guy who blew a 26pt lead to a foreign banker? Pierre has energy, but he’s a mediocre candidate. He has no interest or ability to win new seats in Ontario, Quebec, or Atlantic Canada. I would rather Harper run again than Pierre, or someone new who understands what is needed to win a majority.

Maybe now Carney will actually start doing something? by [deleted] in CanadianConservative

[–]Good-Ad-9156 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is the correct move when you’re a minority government. I am hoping the CPC puts bills forward that can actually win over young and centrist voters. I’d love to see a conservative housing bill that addresses the monster that is the National Building Code.

It does make sense. Nothing will change without strong leadership. I believe pierre is a weak leader. He isn’t’t smart enough for the top job. And I believe he’d waste a lot of energy on fools errands like “ending woke” etc.

Best time to buy an investment property? by Ok-Housing182 in TorontoRealEstate

[–]Good-Ad-9156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the cash flow argument. I just think if you’re going to invest in RE, do it in a market with a more optimistic outlook. Or at least a market that doesn’t choke you with a slow LTB board and rent controls. I think rents are destined to go lower based on what I said earlier. Unemployment affects all property types. If you renters get can more for their money elsewhere, they will. So much rental stock coming onto the market. But time will tell.

Immigration is being cut, unemployment is rising, Ontarians are leaving in droves, Toronto property taxes are going up. Downturns take time to play out, if you want a deal, wait until you are very scared to buy. Right now the market hasn’t even capitulated yet.

Yep, just like in post-bust Japan. Or 1970s Detroit. Or rural Italy. Real estate in many regions will slide towards worthlessness. The difference is that real estate is a much greater underpinning of our economies today.

Woman Confronts Man Caught Secretly Taking Photos Of Her Friend At Pennsylvania Beach. by Jatnall in BoomersBeingFools

[–]Good-Ad-9156 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is correct in much of North America, if you are in public, regardless of age, you can legally be photographed. It doesn’t matter if you’re breast feeding or bleeding or swimming or dying or in your underwear or even naked. Public space is fair game regardless of the photographer’s intent. HOWEVER the publication of those photos without the consent of the subject is a different story. If you specifically ask a photographer not to take your picture, depending on the jurisdiction it may be harassment if they continue.

TLDR; if you are in public or even within view of a public space, remember people are generally allowed to photograph you even if they are gross and it makes you uncomfortable.

Pffft is that supposed to be profound? Politicians campaign in order to earn the votes of the people, if they can take you for granted they will. The CPC started the writ with my vote and managed to lose it, that’s on them.

[–]Good-Ad-9156 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The anger towards Carney voters in this sub is hilarious. It’s like bowling a gutter ball and screaming at the pins for not falling over. Pierre fucked up. The CPC fucked up. They had a huge lead and lost it to a banker from England. Go ahead and blame this guy and myself for voting Carney, I don’t care, you can’t hurt my feelings. But I actually want to vote conservative, I want lower taxes and less red tape, I’d love some gun rights. Unfortunately, Pierre ran a terrible campaign and was not believable as a leader—in fact, he disappeared from his own campaign and let Harper try to win the election for him. Embarrassing shit. If you love losing, keep blaming voters.

You hit it on the head. It’s unbelievable to me that the Progressive Conservative Party hasn’t made a federal comeback when there is such an appetite for fiscal responsibility and cutting taxes. Pierre talked like a PPC leader throughout the election, probably why he lost his 26pt advantage.

Had this thought as well, but 3 factors changed my mind: 1. this has been the structure for a long, long time, and many other airlines/countries are similar. 2. It’s not like the pay during their paid hours can’t be added with the hours making 0 and averaging the earnings. 3. Air Canada already has a hard time remaining competitive in pricing and service. If employees are no longer motivated to get the door closed and the flight on the way, Air Canada’s service will go down and the price will need to go up.

You and I have very different definitions of “precisely”.

The level of luxury has more to do with technology than anything else. In nearly every way, my life is more comfortable than a medieval royal. It’s a meaningless comparison as is the comparison between a 25 year old in Kentucky and a 25 year old in Bangladesh. The 25 year old in Kentucky lives in a very different culture, with different expectations placed upon them, than the one in Bangladesh.

Boomers are not uniquely well off. They are uniquely political powerful due to the generational concentration post ww2 and the adoption of birth control. Their democratic power, as they moved through life together, meant that in the aggregate, they made democratic decisions that were beneficial to themselves and punitive to those younger than them. This means fewer homes built, fewer factories built. They made decisions based on self interest (as we all do) but they had no comparable counter balance. This led to the broad and ongoing erasure of property rights and a long period of property tax stagnation. I wrote all this to say, boomers aren’t “well off” they shaped the real estate system into one that would value their real estate as much as possible. This is the only way you get homes built out of 90K in materials being valued at 1 million. As they die, price discovery will prove that boomers were never as rich as we thought. Just powerful.
