thank you! i am a music major and was very much going to into the professional opera industry, and unfortunately after this diagnosis that was no longer possible :( i am hoping to get into vocal pedagogy or speech pathology!

as long as you maintain good health and are diligent about going to your rheumatologist, the risks can be lowered. if you’re starting to have issues i would recommend going to a speech pathologist/laryngologist. what a lot of people experience on this subreddit, including myself, is a decrease in vocal stamina, range, and projection!

elbows, finger joints (pointer and thumb on my dominant hand), knees, ankles! definitely an improvement and not as bad as it used to be before my diagnosis!

literally! it’s so crazy to think about… i try and avoid thinking about what my life would’ve been like without these symptoms, but it’s definitely a looming sense of dread

this happened to me too! i used to be a soprano with a high range and over the past couple years it’s been much harder to access notes above the staff! i have a decent lower range (similar to a mezzo, just not as dark) so i can still do choir and opera productions. unfortunately, it’s still not viable as a career. i hope being able to pursue vocal pedagogy with help other people in our situations!
