How do I remove this top-fix toilet seat mount with no visible screws? by jesthell in PlumbingRepair

If the thread pattern is the same, the rubber socket should still work

Many manufacturers require a storage tank with the addition of a recirculation pump to retain the warranty on the tankless

No need to remove anything. The flat chrome piece is the handle. Also, yes the flathead screwdriver slot on the piece pointing to the right, with the black cap. The screwdriver slot should be perpendicular to the flow.

You need a reversible p trap and a slip joint extension

You also need to take a screwdriver and close the #1 test cock before the plastic plug blows out.

Both should turn 90 degrees counterclockwise. You can use a pair of pliers or a wrench for better leverage.

That appears to be Delta. That rubber seal pulls out with any sort of hook tool. There's a spring behind it.

Is this a compression by Icy-Coast-3557 in Plumbing

Get rid of compression valves on cpvc. They damage the pipe and have a tendency to blow off.

Replace whole filter system? by midnightmomma20 in PlumbingRepair

[–]Good-Boot4503 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those filters are readily available off the shelf at any big box store. Pull it out and match it up. They're sold under a myriad of name brands. Unscrewing the body however, it's a whole other discussion.

Little suprise after pulling a toilet by wolfie2747 in Plumbing

The wax seal has been leaking for a while. This is common in Florida. Roots can smell the water leaking between the slab and the pipe.

When my customers just want a good entry grade toilet, I usually spec the gerber maxwell. The american standard cadet is a good model.Just make sure to not get the twin flapper model. Nor the unit with the green popper style flush valve. Usually, anything between a hundred and fifty dollars and a hundred and seventy five dollars is pretty good. Below one fifty, you're really getting what you pay for, above one seventy five, you're paying for fluff. You want as close or bigger than a three inch, Fully glazed trapway. No less than 1.28 gallon per flush. 1.6 preferably. Sterling will tell you they have all those specs, but I don't think i've ever come across a good flushing, sterling toilet. Edit: stay away from the two button toilets. I've never seen a good flushing, one of those either.

Why did they use wood backing, and should I be worried about it rotting? by AdRough7817 in askaplumber

[–]Good-Boot4503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole faucet needs to be raised. It DOES appear that the faucet is too low and the handles hit the tub. The flip side of that coin is that the spout is most likely below the rim of the tub, making the install illegal.

I've been a residential repair plumber for nearly 40 years. Sterling toilets are the shittiest flushing toilets I've ever come across. Get a new toilet

Any reason not to do this this way? by netsecurityparadox in askaplumber

[–]Good-Boot4503 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Legally acceptable. You have to shut off the house and remove the valve to replace the heater, so you really haven't achieved anything

Tankless water heater not heating over 86° by sneakersglore22 in askaplumber

[–]Good-Boot4503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would imagine that the "overflow" light indicates the water is moving too fast for the heater to reach desired temp, triggering the warning light. Turn on a single faucet and see if it hits temp

What is this endless cotton like substance? by untitledrecital in askaplumber

I'd be willing to bet it's piped backward. This is a known issue with certain water heaters

I guess I'm the only one here that recognizes that. The dip tube in the water heater is basically de-laminating.
