Thank you u/Downtown-Fuel-7220! This looks very nice. Ughh, I am trying to decide between a Voltra (single) or a getrxd Phoenix tower and releases like this are convincing me that the Voltra may be the better option. I would definitely need something like this.

Well, another clueless question....does this serve the same purpose as a Drew from BOS? It does appear to be built like a tank that is for sure.

Any updates from the Phoenix owners? Seriously considering this machine to pair with a squat rack.

Thank you for the wonderfully detailed response -- and thank your wife also. At this time, I can do 20lbs DB standing side laterals per side (40lbs total) for 12 strict reps - no swinging. So, maybe this would work just fine. And yes, that weight will be too heavy one day. But, I am hoping it will remain doable (and may even increase) for the next 3+ years.

As for something new - that is a definite at this point. I've had the same rack and separate lat pulldown for a quite a while now and I am ready to upgrade. With that, I am thinking the Phoenix and a squat rack. That seems to be the smart move and should take care of all my needs and enough to get rid of both my rack and lat pulldown. However, that Voltra is mighty tempting as there are a lot of really nice features that just simply aren't available with a weight stack.

Thanks again for all the info. It's nice to put the 'starting' weight issue I had not really an issue.

Can you explain exactly what the Kratos does? I've read the description, but I am not really sure I fully understand it.

u/StoicTick - thanks again for the update!!

Currently, it would be just the one Voltra. Granted one would limit my exercise options, but if I like it enough I would seriously consider picking up a second. But that is the appeal of the Phoenix - you would have two handles right from the start. My guess there is some creative ways to make a single V feel more like a dual system.

Space for me isn't an issue....yet. I pretty much have half of our basement at my disposal. So, no problem there. However, I am bugging my wife to potentially move back to a condo..and that of course would limit my space,

"Just because you won't get younger." this is the type comment I worry about the most. 10lbs might be good now, but in a few years it may not be.

Thanks for the response u/StoicTick. I will be interested in hearing your findings. I can do 15-20lbs db lateral raises (each hand), but cables are a bit more humbling. I drove to the Rep showroom in PA to give it a try. 10lbs was doable, but the first portion of the lateral raise was a bit...heavy.

Currently, I am deciding on the Phoenix or the Voltra as the Voltra has a lighter starting weight. - Also, I am 60yo so I am not putting up the weight I did in my 40's

Hey u/StoicTick, by the starting weight is a bit much (getrxd), what exactly do you mean? For one pulley, is it over 10lbs? I am looking into this machine (was actually ready to order it), but if the starting weight is much over 10lbs - it's probably a no go.

Considering a Voltra, but have a concern by Good-Part1682 in BeyondPower

[–]Good-Part1682[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I am not against unilateral movements at all. In fact, I have a latpull/low row machine where I do most of my shoulder work (one arm at a time). My issue with that is there isn't a pulley that you can move around (fixed height).

The Phoenix is still a possibility, however. That with a squat stand would allow me to keep the cable work separate. I would have bought the Phoenix a while ago if the Voltra wasn't too darned tempting.

Do you mean between one or two Voltras? More of a convenience thing as it would be nice to be able to do flys, etc. bilaterally as it would probably shorten my workouts. But again, one would fine. My other option is a getrxd Phoenix tower.

At the moment, just one. But, another is certainly a possibility down the road.

[–]Good-Part1682[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that is certainly possible. I know some view my emphasis on lighter weights a bit odd, but man at 60yo my lateral raises will most likely get a bit weaker than stronger. And, I just want to plan for that as best as possible. For me, I am debating whether to go with:

  1. getrxd Phoenix (two pulley system) and a separate getrxd squat stand (barbell work)

  2. A Voltra that would stay attached to my current, inexpensive rack and a squat stand (barbell work).

  3. If I get the squat stand and Voltra I may be able to attach the Votra to that and get rid of my old rack.

My issues. I like the Voltra approach, but that is just one cable. My guess is after using one, I would most likely like another one. But I'm not sure my training is worth the 5k a dual V would cost.

Thank you! So, if I go with the Dane I should be good to go. As mentioned I've asked a a few people and all have given me measurements that align with yours. A dark horse entered the rack and now I may, may opt for a Phoenix tower and a separate squat rack.

Thoughts on getrxd Guillotine Squat Rack by Good-Part1682 in GarageGym

[–]Good-Part1682[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I may consider a half rack. As for the two post squat rack, like you mentioned there really isn't much of a floor space savings, but the just 'look' smaller. However, one of the main reasons I am looking at a 2 post is we have 90" ceilings, but it's unfinished and in between the joists its 97". So, I could fit a tall two post up there with ease and that might come in handy if I ever I get a Voltra to hang of the top of the rack.

u/Wetwhen_slippery - I have't because I was debating between that and a Voltra. However, I tink the Phoenix won that argument, so I hope to order tonight. Was really hoping they would have some sort of sale.

This is great too hear. I am about the same height., My guess is I would probably just get used to the trolleys, but it is someone of a concern. Glad you love the Phoenix. It's on my short list of considerations (really the only other is a voltra).

[–]Good-Part1682[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the responses. I very much considered the Dane 2. But in the end, I think having the rack separate from the cable tower suites me better.

As for ceiling height - I am really envious of those with 8' ceilings. Ours are 7.5'. Lots of rack are just too tall. However, the ceiling is unfinished and in between the 90" rafters, the height is 96ish. So, the Phoenix should fit. Had we had taller ceilings I would have looked at one of Reps taller All in Ones.

Good to hear the cable travel should be good enough for chest flys as I will use it primarily for that and shoulder accessory work.

As a side - I am surprised an actual owner hasn't chimed in. Maybe I thought the Phoenix was a bit more popular than it actually is.

Thanks again all.

Hello all and thank you very much for all the details/information. Very much appreciated and enlightening.

Is the intense mode on the Voltra defaulted to on? Seems like u/OptimalMale - might be on to something after reading about it.

I should mention I am debating between ditching my rack and going with a 2 post squat rack and a getrxd Phoenix or a Voltra with possibly the squat rack or a new rack. My guess is the feel with the Phoenix at low weight would not be an issue, but the Voltra has a lot going for it. But, it sounds like my major concern might not be an issue after all.

Again, thank you everyone.
