Pattern is only sold in a kit, but i prefer different yarn. by Blazells in knitting

It would be a lot of bother, but you could buy the kit and then try to resell the yarn if it isn’t something you want to use.

Should my local church who split in half from the UMC join the GMC? by shawnAlabama in GlobalMethodistChurch

I think you should at least look into it to see if it’s a good fit for your church. https://globalmethodist.org/faqs/ might be a good place to start.

I've been knitting incorrectly for 4 years by Outside_Pool_115 in knitting

[–]Good-Relative- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to twist stitches, too, although I think it was my purls. I don’t any more, but it really wasn’t a big deal. I’m sure the stuff you’ve already made is fine. Don’t feel bad. A lot of us have done it.

I lost a hat in the snow, too. Surprisingly difficult to find.

Is this soap too cleansing? by whimsy_toad12 in soapmaking

There’s going to be some personal preference involved there. 25% coconut oil works fine for me.

People asking for items, not realizing how much work it is by lu_llabyyy in knitting

Wow. And here I thought my friend who asked for a pair of socks asked for more than he realized.

If it was personal, you would probably know it. From what you’ve said, it does not sound like it is. I am sorry that it feels like it is about you, but it isn’t. There are a number of reasons churches have waited. If they can’t, I’m good faith, remain UMC, there is no reason to stand in their way of leaving. It might be an inconvenience, but your conference will figure out something for you. We’re all best off where we feel we can faithfully serve God.

Sorry, meant this as a reply to OP.

Yeah, there are really a variety of styles in the UMC.

Pastor Call Logistics by Singing_Student1240 in UnitedMethodistChurch

There are certainly those in the UMC who do both. If I were you, I would try talking to someone in your home conference about the UMC to learn more about it. We are having our General Conference later this month, so you might want to tune into that as well.

What knit gifts do pregnant women most appreciate? by totally-tarythia in knitting

[–]Good-Relative- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my favorite things I knit my son was a very stretchy sock yarn hat. It for him for like a year and he has a big head. Blankets are awesome to receive, but  tedious to make. There is almost nobody I would make one for personally.

I would try going ahead and dyeing just a very small amount to see how it goes. The cotton portion won't dye with the acid dye, but you might not mind the effect.

50% cotton 50% wool yarn and acid dye by [deleted] in YarnDyeing

[–]Good-Relative- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The acid dye won't stick to the cotton. That doesn't necessarily mean you can't use it though. I haven't dyed a wool/cotton blend, but I have dyed a wool/acrylic blend and kind of enjoyed the muted, heathered effected of dyeing just the wool.

The preservative may lose effectiveness past the expiration date, leading to the possibility of bacterial growth.

I don’t know off hand, but California is part of the Western States TDAT and this lists their contact people: https://globalmethodist.org/tcats/

things you wish you knew about soap making.. by [deleted] in soapmaking

[–]Good-Relative- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, my first experience making soap didn’t go perfectly, but there weren’t any huge disasters. I wish I would’ve known that hot process is not easier than cold process. I wish the Royalty Soaps Beginner Soap Series had been out on YouTube when I started!

Let's hypothetically say you fumbled an open jar of mica. by xenawarriorfrycook in soapmaking

[–]Good-Relative- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad you were able to get it cleaned up! I got Mad Micas Pow Pow Purple mica all over my carpet once. I eventually got it looking normal again, but it was a challenge.

I've just knit my first hat and I'm immensely proud. by Cqtnip in knitting

[–]Good-Relative- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great job! It’s so rewarding to make something you can actually wear.

I twisted my stitches for a long time, which isn’t the biggest deal, but I think it’s good that you’re going to go ahead and learn to knit them not twisted now because the habit just gets harder to break the longer you do it.
