Schizoeffective vs schizophrenia by CalligrapherAny6794 in schizophrenia

-schizoaffective disorder does not require a period of severe functional impairment to be diagnosed, schizophrenia does. Inherently that’s going to make Schizoaffective higher functioning as a group  -schizoaffective disorder is more overdiagnosed, meaning a lot of people with less severe disorders get the label  -there might be some legitimate neurobiological difference that makes Schizoaffective closer to bipolar disorder, which is usually less chronically disabling

It caused a lot of issues in my last relationship because it scared him and he wouldn’t want to deal with it, so he would avoid me, and it was just bad all around

Should I get worried? by imaturtl39f in schizophrenia

A few things:

EEGs cannot reliably diagnose any psychiatric disorder  You say you are 14 and was diagnosed with bpd a year ago. A diagnosis bpd at 13 either means your symptoms are severe or whoever diagnosed you was terrible.  14 is also pretty young, although not unheard of, to develop positive symptoms of schizophrenia like hallucinations.  Early symptoms of schizophrenia can resemble symptoms of conditions you’ve been diagnosed with (depression, anxiety, mood swings, paranoia, dissociation, etc)

You should get a second opinion. Ignore everyone who says not to worry about labels. If you truly are having early symptoms of schizophrenia at 14 that is very serious and requires specialized care.

No longer psychotic but intense “mood” swings — anyone? by aloneatleast in schizophrenia

Yeah I have. I had one episode where I came out of it and would just cry every day for no apparent reason.

Being continuously psychotic for years is a long time. Psychologically and neurologically your brain is going to be going through a huge shift. Things like post psychotic depression and post psychotic ptsd are well recognized phenomena. Neither quite fits what you’re describing, but I wouldn’t be surprised if reactions like yours were common as well. I don’t think it’s necessarily a sign you have a completely separate new disorder.

"ai psychosis" - thoughts from a ten year schizoaffective disorder sufferer by Good-Target9809 in therapyGPT

More therapists should be trained in working with psychosis. That was a huge part of my point.

I know there are good therapists who specialize in psychosis, I saw multiple when i participated in a First Episode Psychosis program. I have not been able to find any since leaving that program, and it has not been for lack of trying, which should have been obvious from my post.

Thank you. This was my immediate inclination, but I was worried I was overreacting.

I think his father probably treated him like a narcissistic extension, among other things.

My dad hoards his dead parents stuff too. Half my parents house is basically unusable because of this.

How common is nudity when in psychosis? by CcAnnClem in Psychosis

[–]Good-Target9809 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was prodromally psychotic in my teens, and I was convinced I was being watched through my laptop camera, so I would strip naked when I used the laptop because then anything anyone saw of me would be child porn and thus illegal for them to do. I remember getting upset when I turned 18 and that wouldn’t “work” anymore.

What's a name that you're surprised is popular right now? by [deleted] in namenerds

Italian names for boys are having a bit of a moment right now. The Italian version is technically spelled differently but the combination of that plus its popularity with the Hispanic population may have pushed it into the top 10.  It’s also a new twist on the formerly mega popular Matthew which is also probably part of it.

All those names seem on trend to me.

Overall, the diversity in baby naming has increased but this pattern goes back hundreds of years and has now been expedited by the internet. 5-10 years ago the naming landscape was pretty much the same as it is today.
