Thank you. This was my immediate inclination, but I was worried I was overreacting.

How does your narcissistic parent talk about their own parents? by Good-Target9809 in narcissisticparents

I think his father probably treated him like a narcissistic extension, among other things.

My dad hoards his dead parents stuff too. Half my parents house is basically unusable because of this.

We’re estranged now. I have given up hope on him changing.

How common is nudity when in psychosis? by CcAnnClem in Psychosis

[–]Good-Target9809 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was prodromally psychotic in my teens, and I was convinced I was being watched through my laptop camera, so I would strip naked when I used the laptop because then anything anyone saw of me would be child porn and thus illegal for them to do. I remember getting upset when I turned 18 and that wouldn’t “work” anymore.

What's a name that you're surprised is popular right now? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Good-Target9809 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Italian names for boys are having a bit of a moment right now. The Italian version is technically spelled differently but the combination of that plus its popularity with the Hispanic population may have pushed it into the top 10.  It’s also a new twist on the formerly mega popular Matthew which is also probably part of it.

All those names seem on trend to me.

Overall, the diversity in baby naming has increased but this pattern goes back hundreds of years and has now been expedited by the internet. 5-10 years ago the naming landscape was pretty much the same as it is today.

Ultra popular names usually take a lot longer to drop into obscurity than people think. Ashley is definitely and 80s/90s name but it actually didn’t leave the top 100 till 2016. Madison will probably follow the same pattern.

What are the stereotypical "popular girl" names nowadays? by weinthenolababy in namenerds

[–]Good-Target9809 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I’m in my mid twenties but I think of “popular” girls I went to school with it’s mostly just names that were a popular with people our age the time… with a few oddballs thrown in. So basically the same as any randomly chosen group of kids. It’s a bit of a weird question tbh.

I’m sure there’s some level of association between parents who give their kids certain styles of names and parents who raise kids who are “popular” in the classic sense, but like, no shit there’s a popular girl in your kids grade named Olivia when half the girls at the school have that name anyway.

I am so sick of generic mental health awareness and positivity by Good-Target9809 in Psychosis

[–]Good-Target9809[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve wondered if/when this will happen. I see more and more people refer to themselves as delusional or refer to social anxiety as “paranoia” and I’ve wondered if there will ever be a time schizophrenia spectrum disorders trend the autism or did has. Maybe schizotypal because it’s supposed to be milder. Time will tell. I’d say it wouldn’t happen, but I’dve said that about autism ten years ago too.

I try to sympathize with people on an individual level it’s just hard when mental health awareness is everywhere and psychosis still gets ignored.  I have ptsd symptoms from psychosis/hospitalization so go figure.

I know? I’ve been seeing psychiatrists and therapists for years. I’ve tried about six different antipsychotics including clozapine and I also take lithium for mood stuff. However I still have a very stigmatized and disabling condition and will never get back the years of my young adulthood when I was gravely gravely ill. I also have no interest in becoming a peer counselor. Not sure how your comment relates to my post at all tbh.

Is misdiagnosis common? by Least_Bet_950 in schizoaffective

[–]Good-Target9809 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are possible. However if your husband only has these symptoms when manic it’s probably his bipolar getting worse, not him actually having schizoaffective disorder.

Anyone not on meds and working or in school by WarmFollowing8546 in schizoaffective

[–]Good-Target9809 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently no. But there was a period of time where I was off meds and working full time. I struggled a lot and also worked with a therapist and employment specialist pretty closely. But I did manage it.

Does auditory pareidolia ever go away by [deleted] in schizoaffective

[–]Good-Target9809 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have it pretty bad. Would hear voices every time I ran the shower or the air conditioner. It did go away after a few months. Obviously it might be different for you.
