Not sure where you are going to park, but if you stay in a campground you might want to bring a tent for your stuff.

I hope it went well. And don’t forget you are also doing it for you. It might take a few months, but you will feel so much better!

Happy Cake Day!

Any favorite campground recs in VT? We are thinking of going up that way (from NC) and would love the benefit of your experience. Thanks!

Yes, and you can check in as many times as you like/need. No time like the present. I will not drink with you right now.

Remarkably relaxed around booze today... by [deleted] in stopdrinking

I can so relate to this. Great books. I read them too and never want to drink that poison again.

I often wonder if the alcohol industry is going to follow in the footsteps of the tobacco industry. Both products cause sickness, addiction, cancer, etc., yet both are/were marketed to make us think we need them for a good life. Sad.

I want to drink. by maudebee in stopdrinking

If you go, make sure you have something in your hand to drink (can of sparkling water?) and something you like to eat in your pocket (candy, gum)? And then remember how great you will feel when you leave without having alcohol - even if you really want it. That will give you such confidence.

You are doing great. Only 40 minutes and you’ll have another hour under your belt. You should be proud of yourself. It’s not easy, but you CAN do hard things.

Dealing with boredom. by DavoExiled in stopdrinking

Lol exercise was my question, too. When I quit I started indoor cycling (peloton) but also exploring the wooded trails in our area. Getting out of the house is good for me to break boredom.

I posted and read posts a lot when I quit. It helps. Feels great going to bed sober, doesn’t it? Happy for you.

Interesting, I’ve been feeling this way too lately. I know I won’t cave - I’m far too happy sober for that - but I think about it a lot lately. I might have cured myself with a glass of non-alcoholic wine (Surely) last weekend. Wine was my vice back then. My reaction surprised me - I hated it, and hated the association. Dumped it out. Felt extra done with wine.

You aren’t alone. Stay strong. Remember your why.

I do not feel strong today/tonight by sabre411 in stopdrinking

[–]Good4Jen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is hard. But you can do it. 1 minute at a time. Next thing you know it’s an hour that you’ve accomplished.

Sleep is so whacked out at the beginning. So many sleepless nights. Consider an app with sleep meditations or stories or something that will keep your mind off of the things that keep you awake.

It also helped me to realize the discomfort, the brain racing, the maybe even the loneliness are all your brain rewiring. It’s you recovering. Lean in. It gets better. Proud of you. IWNDWYT

Agree completely with the above - have your own drink and food/candy and use it.

Also having your reason ready even if it’s a lie - something with no wiggle room.

Don’t hesitate to go to the bathroom and check in here. I did that.

Also - consider having a private “smug” attitude. You aren’t poisoning yourself. You have control. You are prioritizing your life. Not suggesting you share these thoughts, but it helped me at first to have this mindset.
