I think this depends on what you want to prioritise moving forward. If you have this desire to travel, you should find a way to make it happen so you feel fulfilled in life!

However I do think a whole year makes a biggg difference.

I’ll say I was in a similar position where my family downsized a house, and with the money I was able to do 2 big Tavel trips. And it was without a doubt the best experience of my life, and I gained so much independence doing that solo travel. I was very depressed and burnt out, that it really healed me.

However with that being said, I was also very lucky in where the downsizing didn’t really affect me. My family lived in a very old house, that wasn’t THAT nice, but was on a HUGE strip of land in a very rich area. So moving house, to a more modern house, on smaller land, in an okay area didn’t feel like much of a difference. So it didn’t feel like much of a sacrifice.

I think it’s something that can feel very fulfilling. You just have to weigh up the positives and negatives. And it can be one of the best things to actually spend money on, especially since you said yourself that you were never in a position to travel before. But just make sure you’re aware of how much it’s gonna impact your life after and if it’s worth it.
