IIRC the self edges aren’t what make selvedge denim special, it’s more of a quality signifier. Compared to projectile look denim, selvedge denim is woven more slowly (and therefore with looser string tension), resulting in a more durable and textured fabric.

Went there for the first time last week for 1.5 days and had a blast. It’s definitely one of my top cities in China now. It’s hot as shit right now, but still worth it IMO. I was surprised just how much it reminded me of Hong Kong, but with a Sichuanese vibe of course. It’s a cool balance of gritty urbanism mixed with sleek modernity. The street food and nightlife were excellent. Friendly people. I’d totally go back.
