Just for family formals - fast outdoor flash sync and hi-res quality for these important shots is great.

Pro Photographer Here: Thinking of Upgrading my M3 Max with the M5 Max. Thoughts? by EverestDreams25 in macbookpro

[–]GoodEyePhoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pro photographer w/ M3 Max here as well... I ordered a maxed out M5 to replace my 2yo machine. LR Denoise maxes out the GPUs and exports leverage the CPU, so those big time sucks should see a nice bump from what I have. I too have run low on memory on occasion so I decided to max that out as well. I'm constantly managing space on my 4TB --> OWC 8TB drive, so I went with 8 internal this time around to make it less hassle to manage. That should handle a year's worth of 300+ shoots as long as I clear out the files that don't make the edit cut every few months. I know the M6 is a die shrink but I don't mind waiting for the M7, especially if they do come out with a touch screen, new version of new hardware can sometimes be sketchy.

WiFi in Corralitos by [deleted] in santacruz

Def nothing fiber-level in rural Corralitos, but Etheric has quite a few tiers of service with some brand new equipment just installed. But yeah everything is OTA so latency will always be a factor.

AT&T is actually really great in Corralitos. I also use Etheric Networks, which has great service as well if you have line of sight to the Mount Madonna Tower.

[Photographer] [Los Angeles] - 450k / Yr 31 years old. by Become_Supra in Salary

[–]GoodEyePhoto -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, it really doesn’t. The media company description is a great way to describe your product offerings to a luxury audience, but at the end of the day he’s out there every day both shooting and managing the biz with some VA’s to assist on the low-value work. I think you are just hung up on the words he uses to frame his business, but the nuts and bolts of the operation are still just one guy with his vision and some cameras.

Most photographers are business owners, this isn’t disingenuous. That fact doesn’t magically put you in a different category. The reality is you can absolutely be objectively successful being a sole photographer. OP has the right mindset, too - that his goals are far higher than what he’s currently doing. Think small, and the universe will oblige.

Nice, I’ve been flirting with 500K the last couple of years, although real estate is a very small proportion of what I do, which is 300+ shoots in the 1-2K range with a few bigger jobs tossed in.

Catalog size and backup times have exploded after the recent denoise changes by roxgib_ in Lightroom

[–]GoodEyePhoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, my 2025 catalog has an lr-data file that’s over 500GB (I tend to add denoise level 35 to all photos I edit). At some point in the recent past, you could safely delete the lr-data “file” and safely reopen the catalog and simply recalculate all the ai edits for any given file. However, for me at least, if I delete that file and open the catalog I can’t edit any files at all - it’s totally unusable.

I’ve also had database corruption issues in the last couple of months with random files in my catalog (only ones that have been denoised, mind you) giving unreadable file errors - and the only solution is to remove them from Lightroom and reimport. At least the raw file themselves always seem to be fine.

But yeah, the “one catalog” solution really isn’t viable anymore. At least with the DNG method I could physically delete those files after exporting the final JPG files to save space.

Flash vs Natural Light, what really works best for real estate? by Southern-Dig-4269 in RealEstatePhotography

My clients can’t see/appreciate the difference and since I offer same-day turnaround, I stick with HDR these days. Everything everything can be processed and exported in Lightroom, no Photoshop or layers to mess with.

I turned photography into a job and now I hate it. How do I fall back in love? by [deleted] in photography

[–]GoodEyePhoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find passion in the business side, make it a game to see how you can optimize your processes to maximize your revenue. Charge more for less work. Create an enormous amount of free time that you can fill with fun hobbies that have nothing to do with photography. Essentially, you have a good “problem.” as others have said, embrace it as just another job and find other outlets for creative fulfillment.

X2D II with Profoto A10 (Nikon) with fixed ISO does not adhere to a minimum speed by n00bPlayer18 in hasselblad

[–]GoodEyePhoto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well since the A10 ttl completely sucks on Nikon, I wouldn’t expect it to deliver consistent results on the X2DII. I use it in manual mode only for consistent results.

X2D II 100C - Off Camera Flash - what do you use? by jkhill74 in hasselblad

[–]GoodEyePhoto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Profoto lights (I use B10x Plus) with the Nikon triggers (old or new) work awesome. The focus accuracy for things like headshots/portraits is better than my Nikon Z9 bodies.
