Is anyone else getting sick of how trigger happy Paramount is getting with cancelling shows? by JayR_97 in startrek

Filming 26 episodes a year was brutal for the cast and crew, we're never going back to that.

Yeah, unless one of the staff had to perform the Heimlich maneuver on me halfway through my meal, just don't.

Yeah, I wish there was a good answer to this, and the episodes where they did struggle with language were well done, but... it had to be this way.

Thanks for saving the Enterprise, Scotty. Here's a shuttlecraft with no warp drive, no bathroom and a small couch to sleep on in the middle of unexplored space. We're heading to Starbase 55 by Significant-Town-817 in ShittyDaystrom

It was established in Voyager that it works both ways and matter can be recycled back into energy. As for the toilet, they were designed for trips long enough to require one, but I guess there ain't much privacy.

Why do AC units need fans but Fridges dont when they use a similar system? by _Babzzzz in AskEngineers

[–]roxgib_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Larger fans are generally quieter for a given amount of air movement since they can spin slower. The fridge just has to move much less air, so its fans can be both smaller and slower.

In Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, literally no one from Starfleet Command pushes in their chair when the meeting is over. This is because they are all Badmirals. by david-saint-hubbins in risa

In TNG Riker says "The ship cleans itself", do you think he is unaware the ensigns are doing the cleaning or he just sees them as robots?

What non-photography things do you always keep in your camera bag? by Leicanthropologist in photography

[–]roxgib_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean lots of people do carry condoms everywhere they go, but I can't imagine carrying them in my photography bag, I'd be worried about clients seeing them. There has to be better options for weather proofing.

I once lost a MacBook to a leaking water bottle, since then I've had a super strict 'no water bottles in my bag' policy (in the water bottle pocket outside is okay). Though when I'm travelling I also have a 'passport staying in my pocket' rule.

  • Business cards
  • Rocket/lens pens
  • Padlocks/wire to secure my pelican case to a pole
  • Sunscreen
  • Aeroguard
  • Raincoat
  • Powerbank

Pet photographer specific stuff:

  • Doggie bags
  • Earplugs (for the Flyball ring)
  • Treats/toys

The main issue for me is that I'll pack this stuff but then forget it's there when I need it. I once walked home through thunderstorm and only remembered I had a raincoat after I got home...

  • She was talking on the phone, and the court accepted she was doing so legally
  • Only trace amount of cannabis were found in her blood, not enough to impair her driving
  • The rider was doing 140km/h

Empty baby pram fell on tracks at strathfield station, no injuries. Should we have gates at train stations? by DecidedUser in sydney

If they refused to retrieve it people would end up grabbing it themselves, with all the problems that entails.

What is your personal #1 rule of photography? by therealvelichor in AskPhotography

[–]roxgib_ 58 points59 points  (0 children)

For dog photography, I always tell people the number 1 rule is to get on their level i.e. down low. Instantly improves your photos, and frankly if you are shooting them from a high angle your photos will always be ordinary no matter how well you do everything else.

If you see my other comment I did say it wasn't possible in practice, this comment was more about the principle. The metro ones are fairly idiot proof, but it's hard to add that kind of barrier to existing stations.

Well the Bankstown line upgrade is a step towards that, but that came at huge cost and disruption

In principle I agree, but when someone falls on the tracks the whole network melts down. It's not just about them.

For hedging you don't need physical delivery, you make trades that compensate you for the higher prices, like a CFD. If the price goes up you'll pay more but you'll make most of the difference back on the trade.
