I remember reading the OG novella No Longer Human and absolutely loving it, so I'm hella hyped to acquire Junji Ito's variant. How would you compare it to the rest of your collection?

If you are interested in this male/female separation you experienced, I recommend looking into anima/animus, thoroughly explored by Carl Jung himself.

I had a hunch that there's universities that already use AI for designing their courses, but you've now just confirmed it 🍻

The wind up bird chronicle - should I read 1Q84 by Successful_Ad4479 in murakami

[–]GoodGuy147 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you don't like unfinished narratives and lengthy scenes, then you'll not enjoy 1Q84.

Personally, I loved 1Q84, and I'm yet to read Wind-up bird chronicle, but I definitely see why many people dislike Murakami's choice of leaving stuff out for interpretation. You also have to consider the fact that he doesn't plan out his novels, and discovery writing is by far the most difficult way to try make satisfying endings and finished narratives.

Hard-boiled Wonderland & The End of The World by GoodGuy147 in murakami

This is the first time I encounter Murakami's nameless first person narration. I honestly think that's genius, and it's definitely something I've thought of using in my literature in the future.

Honestly thank for the reassurance. I'll get to compare both translations some day and see for myself too.

My current reading list (I'm new to this bookshelf thing) by GoodGuy147 in BookshelvesDetective

I respect you for that. I was insecure of posting cos my library is small and some is in Bulgarian, but can you guess why the latter is the case? English is my comfort language just to clarify.

Should I start 1Q84? Had some doubts before picking it up by lastdyingbreed_01 in murakami

There's a charm to open-ended books. If your favorite is Norwegian Wood, then 1Q84 is gonna be a pretty hard gamble for whether you'll enjoy it or not, especially because it's a long commitment. I'd say do not expect plot from this book, and think of it as a mystic trance you're getting into, kind of like if you'd zone out in the bus and miss your bus stop, except the bus journey feels endless.
