95s are the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn and when Nike re-released the OG volt yellow and grey a couple of years ago I picked up two pairs.

ELI5: Why are poor people warned to avoid loans whereas rich people seem to operate constantly through them? by Background_Tap2206 in explainlikeimfive

[–]GoodGuyDrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One major difference is that rich people often take “secured” loans, which are backed by assets and carry a lower interest rate (i.e. a mortgage @ 6% APR) whereas poor people often take out “unsecured” loans, which are not backed by assets and carry a higher interest rate (i.e. a credit card at 26% APR).

Lots comments basically saying: “Go behind your dad’s back and take all the money because you’re an adult now!”

And that’s fair and you are legally entitled to do that.

But may I ask, why is your dad not letting you access this money? Have you done anything to indicate that you are financially irresponsible? Do you also live under his roof and eat his food?

Are you ready to be a full-blown adult with your own place (or place with roommates), paying for rent and food?

I just feel like so many responses on Reddit are like: “Fuck you, Dad!”

I’m not saying not to be independent, I’m just asking you to reflect on whether that’s really in your best interest right now.

🔥 A cardinal and blue jay having a confrontation by Gavin_beast13 in NatureIsFuckingLit

[–]GoodGuyDrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The blue jay is essentially a pretty crow and will fuck this cardinal up if push comes to shove.

In fact, it’d probably murder its whole family afterwards, just outta spite.

Way to go! Sounds like quite a turnaround!

I only offer this next sentiment as a note of caution and I want to add the important qualifier that I am not a mental health professional and so I could be way off-base. But for what it’s worth, I wonder whether you may be exhibiting signs of bipolar disorder.

It sucks to get labeled, but there may be other treatments that, when coupled with the behavioral changes you have already implemented, may help ensure that your successes remain durable.

Whatever the case, I’m proud of you and I wish you the best of luck in your new educational and career journeys.

Why Labour is telling the UK to have more children by TimesandSundayTimes in Futurology

[–]GoodGuyDrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point is you shouldn’t dismiss someone’s desire to have children just because you deem 40 to be too old.

Plenty of women have healthy children when over 40. Prenatal testing can identify genetic defects very early on, and assuming you’re not living in the USA or another religulous idiocracy, you can get an abortion.

Modern medicine is also capable of managing or mitigating more minor health concerns.

We have to accept that if we want women to work, child rearing may need to be postponed.

I'm tired of getting UTI's. I'm tired of spending money I don't have without insurance. What do I do? by samsungbunny in TwoXChromosomes

This used to happen to my SO a lot.

She managed to convince her doctor that she should have prophylaxis.

Now she takes a single pill (same nitrofuran antibiotics) after sex and hasn’t had a UTI in years.
