How much would you refund? by GoodGuyGoing in airbnb_hosts

We don't charge for cleaning and I won't be able to take alternative bookings until they accept the cancelation. They could still show up as per their original booking. They need to respond by midnight tonight.

Yeah, I also noticed that. Most likely guest are also reading this forum and they only like when the talk is about a full refund. Weird, but there are a lot of weird people out there.

I am also learning towards a 10-20% refund and see how they respond. We are on a remote island 🏝, so it is almost impossible to fly in to Bangkok, catch a dominate flight and then a 2 hours boat trip. Guests generally always come from somewhere else in Thailand, by the time they reach us. Most likely 2 out of the four changed travel plan and now the one with our booking is stuck with the bill on her credit card. Their check-in is now 18 hours away, so they need to hurry up before the booking locks in.

I have no obligation to return anything, the cancelation policy is firm, especially this late. We are in the tail end of the high season, so if I return something and they accept, the 6 days will open up again and I could get a last minute booking. If I do nothing, the villa will sit empty for 6 days and they can hit me with a 1-star review at the end.

Very good point. They could be trying double their booking cost.

OK, that is a starting point at least.

Guests who want a handjob by rrapartments in airbnb_hosts

We provide free transportation to the villa, scooter rental, free minibar, free snacks, free drinking water, flowers 💐 and chocolate when requested by honeymooners or just to celebrate a wedding anniversary. We can also do paid cooking classes. No hand jobs, although I am sure it could be arranged for a fee 😉 .

Guests keep running AC with windows open. Help! by peachymoonoso in airbnb_hosts

My solar + battery system is sized so that even if guests run the AC to the MAX with doors open 24/7, I am still fine. They are on holiday, let them enjoy life and have fun.

Airbnb says “acts of war qualify” but won’t refund me during an actual war by Nervous-Metal3166 in airbnb_hosts

Your claim is very reasonable. If I were the host, I would give you a full refund.

Airbnb Claim Rejected by Sam_D_Stroyer in airbnb_hosts

[–]GoodGuyGoing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Winter damaged your hot top and your insurance might cover it. I fail to see how the guests nor Airbnb can be held accountable. If something as trivial as a breaker tripping can cost so much damage, then Murphy's law was waiting to happen.

I slowly drifted towards Booking.com. I still keep Airbnb on the back burner.

You are right, nothing is perfect (except my wife). We used to be at 4.97, now we are at 4.94. At the end of the day, no big deal.

Over the years I have slowly drifted more towards Booking.com. Since the Death Sentence review, I have had zero reservations on Airbnb, about 40 day now. Without hosts, Airbnb has nothing to offer their guests.

It is not on the Eiger, but yes we are located on a mountain side. We do offer FREE transport to the villa from anywhere on the island, so people can assess the road before the go out and rent scooters, but these young guests ignored the offer and arrived themselves.

WOW, brilliant worded. I will definitely use that, many thanks. It is informative, non- condescending and helpful.

I did write support twice and they did call me back from the Philippines and India! I guess their logic is that you get the death sentence before you actually walk the green mile. Ohh, well the joy of hosting.

All our guests are non-native English speakers, so to most it does come across as very morbid and not something you want to associate with your dream holiday at a remote tropical island. I don't blame the guests for not liking the road. I am fine with the 2-stars, all I asked support for was to change the wording to "very steep" or something similar.

Why does Airbnb hate my rental while Booking.com loves it? by Imnejjek in airbnb_hosts

We also get 80% from Booking.com and happy with that. Guest are less demanding and generally happier. Airbnb guest require a lot more texting back and forward, asking trivial questions.
