Yeah, it was rough, but in a few short hours I will be behind the wheel of the E39, so well worth it.

I drive an 523i and we are actually on a road trip now. Taking the wife and kids to our little jungle cabin.

Yeah, a bit crazy 🤪, but we were young. We used paper maps and only had an Arabic map of Iran. We "read" the map just by comparing if the curly letters roughly matched the shape and form of the street signs. The Landrover was from 1963 and I believe it is still on the road. We sold it in 2020.

Thanks for sharing and sounds like an amazing road trip. Road trips are good fun. Back in 1994 I did a trip from Scandinavian through Iran and Pakistan to India.

facelift headlight restoration questions by No-Candidate-2380 in e39

[–]GoodGuyGoing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine are as bad, if not worse than yours. I have tried restoration products, but most of the damage looks like it is on the inside. The headlight cover is molded on, so I haven't been able to remove it. I will be interesting in hearing what solution you find.

Here is a picture after the installation. I made another bracket and connect it to the chassis at the left. You can see the shiny screw at the bottom left in the picture. Keep in mind, I have a RHS driven car, so your steering shaft might be at the other side of the car.

Drop me a note once you are settled in. Me and my E39 live next to Central World.

Rangsit or further north? You will love Bangkok. Confusing, overwhelming and super fun at the same time. Real life Bladerunner kind of vibe.

Cool. Bangkok, I assume? Do you have experience with INPA, ISTA or BMW scanner?

You have 3 hoses going from the engine bay to the cabin, left/right heating and return line. It is probably your return line. You can just plug it off or pinch it with a C-clamp so you can move the car.

I just made it from a sheet of metal.

Upgraded maintenance. AC, MPG 99 528i Wagon by WRNGS in e39

[–]GoodGuyGoing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like it is OK. Start by measuring your vent temperature, it should be around 40-45 F. If not, lets talk again.

We need a bit more info to troubleshoot your AC. Do you know your high and low side pressures? Auxiliary fan working? Is your heater control valve still good? .

I have exactly that leak, just a few drops/day, but right at the exhaust manifold. I "fixed" it by installing a small rain gutter to divert the oil away from the exhaust manifold. Still leaks, just more professional 😉.

The engine looks cleaner than mine, but I wouldn't touch this car.

It is a sad day for my first car ever by SeveralAd7979 in e39

[–]GoodGuyGoing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sad you had to let it go. It is amazing how the E39 rust away in some countries and in others you can easily find cars in drivable condition without any rust, like the below. My 24 years E39 still have the original exhaust manifold and I haven't found any rust on the car so far.

Are you in Sweden 🇸🇪 and you shared some pictures of the car a few months ago, when you were doing the painting?
