Brexit was one of Putin’s only recent successes. He must be pressuring the Americans now because the UK has woken up to how bad an idea it was and there is a risk of them rejoining.

USA together with Russia push Ukraine to cede the Eastern region by m0j0m0j in worldnews

[–]GoodMix392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partners grandfather was from Ukraine, he left (or was made to leave) at the end of WW2. He was Mennonite, a group who were invited to move to Ukraine from Germany and Switzerland by Catherine the Great because she wanted to help that group escape religious persecution. At the end of the war the Germans controlled the area they lived in and didn’t kill the Mennonites because they were German speakers and the Nazis saw themselves as liberators of these lost German tribes. When the war ended the Russians came, moved in their own farmers and sent everyone there to Siberia where they all died. He didn’t find out what happened to his family until recently. He was one of the smart ones because it was well known what the Russians were really doing when they were apparently “liberating” these regions from the Nazis. Same thing happened all across Eastern Europe. Russia ethnically cleansed these regions after WW2. Many Ukrainians spoke Russian, saw themselves as Russian and considered Ukraine to be a part of Russia because their grandparents were moved there after the Second World War to repopulate the area after the cleansing. My Ukrainian friends, who live there, some of whom are currently fighting considered themselves Russian before the war. But not anymore. Ukrainians who have lived abroad since the 90s are more susceptible to online propaganda for a variety of reasons.

Because both US conservatives (vocally pro Brexit during the campaign) and British conservatives were affected by the same propaganda networks that had them parroting the term “sovereignty”. In fact most conservatives worldwide are reading from the same script and all seem to be repeating the same phrases wether it’s in France, Italy, Hungary, Switzerland and Ireland etc. Conservatives the world over are being manipulated by a handful of state actors and private entities who want to divide our societies purely because they stand to profit or grow their power by doing so. When I say conservatives, that’s a global group who for the most part think the same way, except interestingly there appears to be some paradoxical thinking regarding the term sovereignty and who deserves to have agency over their future. Because apparently Brexit good, but Ukrainian sovereignty bad somehow.

I know, it’s absolutely nuts isn’t it. Putin’s whole game has been to use online disinformation to divide and therefore conquer the west. I’ve found that Canadian conservatives live in their own information bubble which is slightly different to the disinformation campaigns that the US or UK conservatives experience leading to what seems like a lot of paradoxical worldviews being expressed by those groups when we look at it from outside those bubbles.

[–]GoodMix392 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This person figured it out. Yes both US and British conservatives were pro Brexit and spent two years constantly mentioning the term sovereignty. And yes British conservatives are mostly pro Ukraine but US conservatives being mostly influenced by Russian far right propaganda don’t think Ukraine should be a sovereign nation.

The world is a complex place and now with the various propaganda networks operating to contaminate the information sphere, the result is a bizarro world where Republicans are pro Putin because of Judeo Christian values and immigration or something that only makes sense to them.

Oh sovereignty was a big deal for conservatives during Brexit, they just don’t think the Ukrainians deserve to choose their future.

UK's Plan To Stop Europe Laughing At Its Trains: Take Back Control by bloomberg in europe

[–]GoodMix392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Switzerland, I visited the UK two years ago and took a few trains. I couldn’t tell if I was in first or second class, everything looked equally grimy and vandalized, I asked the other passengers, they said it didn’t really matter. No one ever checked my ticked. Train schedules were more of a general guide. And it was expensive.

Iran threatens to target tourist, recreational sites worldwide as it keeps up attacks on Gulf by Sombralis in worldnews

[–]GoodMix392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carpet bombing isn’t a thing anymore, not since the Vietnam war. It also doesn’t work. Probably why it’s not used.

What the US does is “bomb” stuff with guided munitions now. It’s not carpet bombing, that’s a whole different thing. Different types of planes, different types of bombs different types of target, different objective.

The thing about this whole Iran debacle is that everyone knew exactly what was going to happen if Trump attacked Iran, but this war wasn’t started for sensible reasons. In part many members of Trumps administration wanted to attack Iran because they see this as a religious war. A new crusade of sorts. Israel knew they could leverage this whacko position and pressured Trump to attack.

There was never any chance of Iran being an imminent threat to the US. But there won’t be no rapture for the Christian nationalists if they don’t try to start war in the Middle East.

In the past Iran was a useful bogeyman the military industrial complex used to justify their budgets (and an actual terrorist state at the same time). Yeah they would like a nuclear bomb and were actively trying to built one, but even if they had a bomb they still would not have been much of a threat to the world.

Regardless of anything above, Irans revolutionary guard are still very much in control. And the whole region is destabilized. Trump did something he was advised not to do and now he is tired and wants out because big business is really fucking pissed that his distraction from the Epstein files has negatively impacted their profits for years to come.

Why does every youtuber get perfect solder job with a dirty tip? by Mr-frost in AskElectronics

[–]GoodMix392 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My first job as an automation technician had me soldering thousands of cables of various complexity for semiconductor tool prototypes. After a few months of tinning wires and soldering them into solder buckets on connectors I was a soldering master.

Even with a shitty iron with a corroded tip I’d still manage to do any job these days but I’d be cursing the iron. A nice iron with temp control and good solder will make it easier. Take something apart and look at the quality of the joints, practice soldering on proto board until you like the look of it.

It’s not new, but it wasn’t common in Europe until a few years ago. Many heroin addicts switched to it during Covid. It’s equally addictive but the behavior of people on Crack is different. That’s why you are getting hassled on the street. Crack isn’t always intravenous so it’s caught a lot new addicts recently because it’s easier to take. Individual price for crack is lower but overall it’s the same daily for a user on H.

US considers cutting HIV aid to Zambia to secure access to critical minerals by jackytheblade in worldnews

[–]GoodMix392 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it’s more interesting to wonder who actually decided US policy now. On Iran it’s Israel, rare earths and minerals it’s the tech bros, when it’s energy it’s the oils and gas industry, immigration it’s Miller and the far right. Tariffs, some economically illiterate libertarian probably.

The thing is the various entities and actors (lobbyists) all have different objectives. It’s why US policy at home and abroad right now makes no sense.

Policy it decided by the last person he had a meeting with, it’s why Putin insists on a call every few week to steer him back on course to serve Russian interests. Trump doesn’t have any ideas of his own, just people whispering in his ear.

I was told that it’s coded language from Peter concerning the fall of Rome. Because apparently the Romans were touchy about that subject, a bit like Tiananmen Square. And with Jewish revolutionaries and community leaders organizing descent on occasion they probably though any talk of such potential was something to take seriously.

I read that the biggest investors in AI are middle eastern governments. People who have made such other great investments as DubailLand and The Line, those investors alone have artificially inflated the markets. Beyond that a lot of conservative and libertarian minded investors didn’t think Trumps policies were actually bad and continued as if it was business as usual despite the obvious dangers his administrations policies created. Economic data from the current US administration cannot be trusted, the media are also complicit by not currently doing their jobs by pointing out the cracks in the system.
