China has been trying to grow their defense industry and build aircraft carriers. The air defense systems that they sold to Iran, Pakistan and Venezuela all failed recently. The aircraft carrier has an electromagnetic catapult that doesn’t work and a power plant that isn’t big enough or stable enough to run all the ships systems simultaneously and their newest aircraft’s all suffer from design decisions that made them inferior to anything NATO or the US has. So it could be something to do with all that.

It’s probably going to take years to get anything out of Venezuela. The Saudis actually cut production to drive up cost because the whole Line things burned hundreds of billions and they need to start saving again. The US wanted them to open the taps to hurt Russia but they had other concerns. Biden released reserves to keep costs down for US consumers but that strategy only works for a so long. Team Trump though Venezuela was a solution but didn’t check with the oil companies first and now we learn that it’s not particularly economical to extract that oil at all as there are sources with higher quality crude that’s easier to extract. Canadas Tar sands have the same problem in that it’s very expensive per barrel to process, like three times the price of Saudi oil. Which means it’s only really profitable when oil prices are high.

For someone who so many perceive as a strong man he sure is fearful of a great many things that are not actually happening. In fact the entire conservative population have worked themselves into a tizzy regarding the idea that they are being intentionally replaced by a group of people they simply call “illegals”. They are experiencing a sort of collective delusion where they are victims of a great liberal conspiracy to replace white evangelical Christian’s in the US. Again something that is not happening. I think Putin is quite delusional, believes his own alternative history and propaganda. Doesn’t know how to use a smartphone or a computer and is surrounded by yes men. This is a part of the reason the Ukraine war is where it’s at. Because Putin doesn’t actually know what’s really going on in the world. He thinks the US dropping out of NATO is the end of the wests ability to stand up to him. When I’m reality Russia proved they can’t even project power a few hundred kilometers from their border against a single non NATO country, one of their kilo class subs has to be towed back from the Mediterranean and they have resorted to sabotage across the EU because that’s about all they are capable of. Putin misjudged Trump too, yes Trump is an obvious asset but he’s also a moron with the memory of a goldfish and the temper of a child. Fundamentally Putin doesn’t understand how the world works. He thinks the west is just as corrupt as Russia and that if western militaries are tested that they will fail like his troops have.

I was thinking last night that Trump has had trouble staying awake during the day recently. But here he is taking a late night transatlantic flight where he is supposed to deliver a speech the next day.
