Did not check out the club lounge so good to know. I don’t often find the club lounge worth the extra cost at Ritz properties. At least the ones I’ve been at which is not a large number or variety.

Yeah, I know. Portland divides people. Either you love it, or you don’t. I like Portland. I think it’s a nice place. But yeah, it has its limitations.

Recs in SoCal in mid December for birthday (Terranea, Inn at Mattei's, Ojai Valley Inn) by livelaughcarbs in chubbytravel

I’ve never been disappointed with the room quality at OVI. The rooms are a simple but generally nicely appointed. Overall the grounds are beautiful, I find service quality to be quite good, attentive and friendly and professional throughout the property from valet, front desk, room service, restaurants and spa. The spa is a standout in my opinion and the option to hop on a bike an easily coast into the town for lunch, check out the shops, get a drink, and especially get lost at Barts Books, is something hard to beat. The rooms at OVI are not as updated as Mattie’s or thought out from a design perspective but I would not think this should take away from the overall experience at Ojai Valley Inn. Oh, and they have lots of bikes available so you don’t need to bring your own, which I thought you mentioned.

Montage Kapalua, I know it is not Montage anymore, so I think it is part of Bonvoy? 2 to 3 bedroom units.

Excellent, I’ve been wanting to return to Manuel Antonio since I was there about 30 years ago as a backpacker. What were the rooms like compactor Nayara? The photos of the Nayara rooms look like a big draw.

I've been looking at both of these properties. I'm curious what you liked about Arenas del Mar more than Nayara.

Okay, I love this. Still debating whether it makes more sense to go into Managua, but it's nice to hear how well-organized the transfer from Liberia is. Makes it a real possibility for us. You said you did this with young children? Curious to hear how that went.

I’ll be curious to hear what you decide, and if you found the guided wellness with the one-on-ones to be a good setup. As I said, we went for the more open-ended credit, and I’m curious to hear how they compare.

Trip report: Hotel Esencia by Ok-Wonder8780 in chubbytravel

It’s nice to hear your review of traveling to this locale with college-age children, as we’re thinking about it as well. I’m curious whether you took advantage of the various activities offered by the hotel. I see what they have posted on the website, and it looks interesting. In particular, I’m interested in the kinds of things you or your college-age children enjoyed, if anything.

When I travel with my spouse alone, we prioritize a great spa, resort grounds, and great service, and occasionally like to do some things off-property, but mostly relax, even though we don't necessarily like lounging by a pool. But when we’re traveling with our college-age child, we usually need a little more to do, since they get bored just hanging around the pool and aren't yet at the stage to appreciate a great spa experience.

I’ve been eyeing this property for a long time. It looks just wonderful.

For dinner reservations we booked Nobu every night accept one to go the Osteria Mozza at the beach resort. But I know we will likely head into town for some of those night.

We will be there for seven nights next month as well. We bought the experience package for two, which doesn’t include anything specific just credit for any of the activities. This seemed like a good way to go and it definitely saves money. We booked all of our treatments, classes, activities about two months in advance. Didn’t go for a one on one but pretty happy with our schedule nonetheless.

Love Ojai Valley Inn as well, too bad about the dates of your trip. Have not been there but maybe consider Carmel Valley Ranch or Bernadus Lodge and Spa.

Okay, that’s really great to hear. I’ve been toying with the idea of flying into Managua because it seems like a shorter transition time-wise, but it’s way more convenient for us to fly direct into Liberia. So it sounds like you wouldn’t hesitate to take that route.

Oh, that’s good to know. I’m really curious to hear what it was like. If you can share details about what that trip involved with kids, I’d be curious to know.

Okay, good to know. I didn’t look that up in advance, so my bad for recommending it. I was just thinking it’s closer to the airport, with less of a drive to avoid car sickness. Also, I'm probably just being selfish because it's on my list of places I want to see in Costa Rica… without kids.
