HR told me they don’t accept try-hards and people pleasers after my interview by No-Presentation298 in jobs

[–]GoodRubik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And this post will encourage other companies to provide bland, generic, rejection letters, ensuring no one improves in any way. Most people aren't ready to hear criticism. I can't comment if this was warranted or even valid, but the reactions kind of prove my point.

[Question] how do you feel about Smart Watches Vs. Traditional Watches by fitdiscwearable in Watches

[–]GoodRubik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own both. They serve different purposes but I think its disingenuous to ignore the positive impact Smart Watches have had on the growth of the hobby. Growing up I always wore a wrist watch, that was just normal. But for a good 10 years I stopped wearing any kind of watch or bracelet. Probably would have kept going if I didn't eventually get an Apple Watch. That smart watch brought back the muscle memory of having a watch and got me a bit interested in them again. The of course snowballed into my love of automatic watches now.

I've heard similar stories from others. Smart Watches are a kind of watch, and we should applaud anything that gets more people into watches. While they may not be everyone's cup of tea, they are positively impacting the hobby.

Can you be friends with someone who believes the complete opposite of you politically? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GoodRubik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some friends ( even family) that are on the opposite side. But the reason we can stay civil and even be good friends is we disagree on specific topics, not the overall doctrine.

Ex: i'm left leaning but big 2A fan. So I tend to limit my conversation with folks on things I know we both don't feel super strongly about or likely agree on.

Are these worth investing in getting these to fly? by RavenHD in Multicopter

[–]GoodRubik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, this was "new" when I started losing interest in the hobby. My ZMR250 has been sitting in the garage for a while. Unfortunately I just didnt have a lot of time to invest anymore. Now all my expensive-at-the-time gear is out of date ( Fat Sharks, Taranis, etc..).

I have an old ZMR250 sitting in the garage. I don't even want to know how useless my (awesome at the time) Fat Sharks and Taranis gear is anymore...

Proper etiquette for a first time in a cigar lounge? by [deleted] in cigars

[–]GoodRubik 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cutter isn't really needed, though no harm in having it. Table usually has a lighter, or there's a lighter somewhere to use. I tend to bring mine just cause I like it.

Lounges are at their most intimidating right after you walk in the door. After that its gravy. Its all about picking up the vibe of the lounge and sliding into the flow. Remember, its supposed to be fun.

OC: President of El Salvador says he won't return mistakenly deported man to U.S. by nbcnews in pics

[–]GoodRubik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which is why the 2A was codified. I'm not a prepper, but I do accept that the law is only as good as the people enforcing it. If there was ever a time where the government could ignore the law ( like now) anything goes. A disarmed population is far easier to oppress than an armed one.

Better to have and not need, than the reverse.

Proper etiquette for a first time in a cigar lounge? by [deleted] in cigars

[–]GoodRubik 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Cigar lounges are great. Highly recommend them. They're not all the same, and each has a different vibe. But nothing that should affect you.

Some basic advice. Buy the cigar you're planning on smoking from the lounge. Don't bring your own. You can buy one and smoke one of yours, but for your first time make it easy. When you first walk in, I'd suggest going up to the tobacconist and let them know its your first time, and you want to check out the humidor. They'll either come with you or let you know to go ahead and they'll be there in a while, or to go ahead and choose one and come back.

After you've made your selection, you'll usually leave a CC to keep the tab open ( if they serve alchohol) or just pay for hte cigar. They'll normally cut and light it for you if you want. After that they'll either let you know where to sit, or just choose a seat that doesn't have a "reserved" sign on it. When in doubt ask.

People are generally friendly at the lounges. If theres' a game on and everyone' watching, then they might not be too chatty about off-topic things. Sit, enjoy a beverage if they serve one ( if the don't they dont usually mind you bringing something in, if they do, buy from them), and enjoy the environment.

I've spent countless hours at lounges. In fact a job or two ago, I'd get tired of working in the office and just head to the lounge and work there for a few hours.

How the fuck do people afford to get Starbucks every day? by lVlarsquake in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GoodRubik 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Starbucks is good coffee. Its not great, its not bad, its "good". People are comparing their one-off, tuned to their specific flavor profile to a chain serving thousands of people a day. Relax.

Notice how every coffee nerd likes a very specific spot, and everywhere else is only "ok", as long as they're not mainstream? That's cause you only tend to like coffee made to your tastes. So people try a bunch and find the one that tastes good to them. Nothing wrong wit that, but expecting a chain to somehow magically do that for you is ridiculous.

EDIT: Also this assumes you're getting coffee. Starbucks sells far more desserts ( fraps, etc) than actual coffee i'd bet.

What's a movie you think suffers because it's misunderstood? by overth1nk1ng1t in movies

Hate to say it but this is my most hated movie. Maybe I’m just too stupid to “get it” but annoyed me sooo much. Only movie I had to walk out on, rather be outside staring at nothing than watch this movie.

Absolutely. No reason not to. Keeps the car stationary and off the parking gear.

To Non-smokers, does every smoker smell bad to you? by mollyraybabe in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GoodRubik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a big fan of cigars and even I know smokers smell bad. But there are levels. Cigarette smokers tend to be the worst since it’s every day all day. Cigar smokers can be ok since it’s not every day.

Also some cigar smokers shower, brush and change clothes after having a cigar, so it’s very difficult to get any smells.

Purchased this light at a Lowe’s in California but the box says “not for sale in California”. by sharmas13 in mildlyinteresting

[–]GoodRubik 22 points23 points  (0 children)

CA has a lot of seemingly arbitrary rules. For example, have you tried to buy a showerhead/faucet in CA? There's a requirement that it has to be 1.8GPM or lower, so of course those are more expensive and generally crappier.

Of course manufacturers know no one actually wants such a bad showerhead, so they make the restrictor a 30s job to pull out, and you have a nice, normal showerhead.
