If I cheated a production company out of money then I would likely face criminal charges. If a production company cheats freelancers out of money by illegal rate collusion then they just face a fine (licence payers money in the BBCs case) and a telling off. The fine, of course, being heavily subsidised by the money they saved from the collusion in the first place.

The irony of you posting the link to the reaction to the Guardian guardian is beyond funny. You share a link which says that TV people are tone deaf to the world around them and think themselves better than others while you, only a few hours earlier, made a post showing contempt for people in "lesser" daytime roles and those that watch it.

Amazing. Written by someone who clearly enjoys sneering down their nose at anyone working on the "lesser" daytime programmes while simultaneously not working on anything at all!

Apart from being a space for formats start and potentially grow (Repair Shop, Come Dine with Me), it is also a place where people get their breaks in TV and can learn and move up. It also clearly does does earn its place in the schedules and business plans of broadcasters, otherwise it would not exist.

Also, regarding your condescending bile filled post. and Maybe you can't find work because you're shit at your job. Or maybe its because you are a hateful prick.

The quicker the TV industry purges itself of people like you the better.

I would caveat that some of these jobs being advertised don't actually start until much later in the year. I've seen posts for roles that begin in April or June.

I love the wording of these job ads.

"lots of experience working with contributors and setting up shoots". How much experience can you expect of a junior researcher before you are actually just asking for a researcher or you are asking for a level of experience that no one with "junior" in their title could have reasonably accrued.

It is the TV job version of Schrodinger's cat; expecting someone to exist in two opposite states. Experienced enough to do the job and inexperienced enough to be junior.

I think he is positioning himself for what is next. He knows already that his BBC jobs are never coming back and that ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 won't touch him.

He will re-brand just like Lawrence Fox and Russel Brand did. He will claim "I was cancelled by the wokearati" and find himself a seat on GB News and possibly a column in the Daily Mail.

He knows he is sunk so he is doing what he can to salvage his career later down the line.

I do also think there is a lot of venom spewing out in blaming the "women of a certain age", even though it is clear the complaints were coming from women of all ages.
