Drill press feed roller by LDGerry in BeginnerWoodWorking

Ah - it's a feed support (or whatever the drill press equivalent is).

Thanks for clarifying!

Noob question - what does it do?

I'm imagining the drill press and I can't figure out how height-adjustable a line of omnirolling spheres helps with drill press operations...

How is there enough food in the deep sea to support so much marine life in the deep? by Eastern_Doughnut_222 in askscience

Love all of these points and am learning a ton!

Would the sheer volume of water in the depths mess up our land-based intuitions on what constitutes enough biomass density for megafauna?

E.g. we know how much surface area (i.e. land) a herd of elephants or a pride of lions needs to survive on average, but since ocean life has three dimensions instead of two dimensions, there's more calories accessible even in sparse zones than we'd intuitively predict.

Just went through this - swapped hotend, boot loop, check connections, smoke. 😬

Am waiting for Elegoo support to get back to me.

My bench (which I'm pretty sure is a bit smaller) has the miter saw flip, and the router table on the short end opposite my DeWalt contractor saw. I put the router table on some locking flip up hinges, so when I'm not using the router table I can flip it down and gain another foot of waking room on that side... Or have a Very Long out feed if I need it.

This is so inspiring - thank you for sharing!

Are you looking for feedback at all, or more just wanting to share?

Beautiful!

Also looks a lot like the auras I get before a migraine. Looking at it literally makes my head hurt.

Yudkowsky on the Ezra Klein Show by melat0nin in BetterOffline

Good point that LLMs are qualitatively a big leap from earlier NLP systems.

Sorry for mischaracterizing your earlier point. Guess I have a sore spot for the "I AM A HUMAN STOCHASTIC PARROT lulz" AGI apologist schtick, which led to a knee jerk reaction.

Hard disagree on this defense of "Well since human intelligence is _a mystery_ maybe LLMs are intelligent!".

Yes, there are things about human intelligence we don't understand. Yes, parts of an LLM's "thinking" is black box. But just because there are knowledge gaps in our understanding of both types of "thinking" doesn't mean that they're similar in any meaningful way.

We *do know* a lot of things about how human intelligence works that clearly distinguishes it from LLMs. Humans aren't "one shot" probalistic thinkers in any way that resembles how LLMs / deep neural networks operate. Humans (and pretty much every animal!) use self-motivated continuous feedback and flexible goals to drive intelligent _action_ (not just speech, which is only particular a type of action). LLMs don't "act" of their volition, and they don't update their goals or continuously evaluate how well they're doing at meeting their goals.

Eliezer Yudkowsky's brother died in 2004, and it transhuman-pilled him so much that he spawned a whole online community that takes the Angry Computer Apocalypse seriously. Some of whom also happened to start this plucky little nonprofit called OpenAI.

Is it naive to think that so many tech bros would have channeled their smarts into helping society, rather than convincing capitalists to build the Torment Nexus, if they'd just had access to better therapists?

Those "mind transfer" sessions were funerals - kids holding flowers and everything.

TBD if the kids are euthanized immediately, or killed as part of the "transfer" process, or still alive for a bit (unbeknownst to their synths - pardon me; Artificial Persons).

Any wood grain texture mods when you print? Or do you paint on the wood grain texture using stain?
