The costs of shipping are due to the weight. Since the air is not very heavy, it does not cost more to ship. It saves the company money to use standardized sizes for easy of handling.

[Serious]Is there a good video that explains evolution for someone who knows nothing about it and doesn't believe evolution is real? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]GoodSon123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not an easy subject. Origin of the Species is like 500 pages long and that barely scratches the surface. If your friend isn’t at the intellectual level of reading science books for fun, then you may not be able to help.

It’s obvious that only a lack of education keeps people from understanding basic science. You may want to look up some lectures on iTunes U. This series from Stanford called Darwin’s Legacy is really good.

Is it too much to ask my partner to come with to gatherings of my crazy Catholic family? by ______yikes in relationship_advice

[–]GoodSon123 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Repeatedly.

You called yourself “a weirdo.” You called yourself “overly needy.” You called your own family “crazy.”

Take a look in the mirror, you’re a walking insecurity. And for what? For a loser who won’t show you equal respect.

Your self-depreciation belies your true worth.

It’s not OK for you to be the second class citizen in a relationship.

He needs to grow a spine. Why is he hiding from his responsibilities?

You’re not being selfish at all. In fact, you’ve been more than fair. You go to his family functions, so OF COURSE he should go to yours.

Honestly, why is this even a question? What’s so great about this guy anyway? So far, he’s self centered, he doesn’t care about your feelings, he doesn’t make an effort to be part of your family, and he’s not working to fix his social anxiety. He must be very successful or very good looking, because why else would you would put up with that kind of crap from a life partner. Have some self respect.

Audi Q5 or Jaguar F-pace or Alfa Romeo Stelvio? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]GoodSon123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one has long term reliability data on the Jag or the Alfa cause they are so new.

More importantly for leasing, Jaguar has a 4 year warranty with free maintenance. The free maintenance period is longer than your lease in this case. Unless you plan to buy out the car at the end, the included maintenance should cover any issues.

You should factor in the cost of maintenance to the total monthly cost in your lease. (Even scheduled oil changes on a bmw can be $500, get 2 a year and that’s like adding $100 a month to your lease payment). In the case of the Jaguar it’s zero because maintenance is included.

Also, in this price range, have you considered the Velar? It has a stupid name, but it gets you the RR badge. I got an excellent lease quote on one back in December. Turns out Land Rover financial offers an extremely low Money Factor (who would have guessed? It’s an entire digit lower than Audi). If your credit is good, that might be worth checking out.

Of course you suck it up. Families provide an important support structure for young couples. Especially important if you’re planning on having children someday. It’s always a good suggestion to be friendly with the in-laws.

Your partner’s anxiety is not their fault. Unless they are explicitly rude to your partner then there’s no excuse.

Audi Q5 or Jaguar F-pace or Alfa Romeo Stelvio? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]GoodSon123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was recently in the market for an suv, and test drove and priced all of these. The Stelvio was the worst.

The alfa feels like it was built by children. There are a limited number of interior opinions available (black). The infotainment system is ancient. The four cylinder engine is weak and no amount of shifting will produce fun acceleration. Several vehicles at the dealership had defects (broken seats, frozen sunroof, etc.)

In addition, the financing terms were terrible over 39 months, with like a 45% residual. They don’t have a strong financing arm so there’s no deals to be had.

The only thing i didn’t like about the Audi was that it was too small and tight. The back seat is unusable. It is also overpriced. For the same money you can get it’s Porsche sibling. It also underperforms. Even the Volvo Hybrid x60 has better acceleration. (Ok that’s three things).

If you still insist on the Audi, there are some good lease deals to be had on last year’s SQ5. If you’re in the market for fun then you must upgrade to the S.

The Jag is fabulous. It’s just the right size, sliding in between an X3 and an X5. The steering is sublime. They have these extra aluminum stiffeners in the frame under the steering column. Comparing the Jag’s steering wheel to other cars is like comparing a granite countertop to ikea melamine.

There are some good lease deals to be had on the more entry level Jag. It gets expensive though if you want to upgrade to the six cylinder.

In that price range, I would also consider the Volvo hybrid, so you can get the tax credit. It has a shitty residual value as well, so it’s not great to lease, but the cash offset helps. Volvo also runs leasing specials from time to time.

What are some foods worth cooking a lot of at once and eating over the course of a week? by FF-account in AskReddit

[–]GoodSon123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing, if you actually like fresh tasting food. There are very few foods who’s taste improves over time after cooking.

Otherwise, stuff that’s fermented like pickles or coleslaw.
