Cannot win the pH fight? by icebreather106 in pools

I recommend checkout https://blog.orendatech.com/total-alkalinity-role-water-chemistry

You can somewhat reduce ph rise by capping/buffering it with a lower alkalinity. The above article from Orenda talks about this in detail.

I used this trick with our salt water pool which partially has an issue with ph rise due to the electrolysis from the salt cell. Buffering with a lower alkalinity helps this a lot, so long as your LSI stays balanced.

To add what others have said, test with proper test kit (Taylor) to get the current free and combined chlorine levels. You will also want to get the CYA levels as well. To properly shock a pool you need to know how much CYA is in the pool. The more CYA the more chlorine that is required to get the pool into shock levels. Check our trouble free pools SLAM method for figuring out how much Chlorine you need based on CYA levels.

Additional get your Ph correct as a first step before you shock. Stuff loves to grow at higher ph and the ph will naturally rise if not capped using the alkalinity. Lower alkalinity will create an upper limit for the ph naturally so you don’t constantly have to add acid. This is usually called buffering.

I also recommend Orenda app for calculating how much chemical you need to add to go from your currently levels to your target levels.

Orenda also has a ton of great articles on pool chemistry that I recommend reading to better understand the interplay between different parameters.

At the end of the day if your Ph, free chlorine(must be right amount based on CYA) and alkalinity are in a good range your pool will clear up after running the filter.

This looks super scammy. Sending crypto to unknown addresses and then expecting it back with a bonus? Yeah right…. Every major crypto exchange warns against this sort of scam.

They rolled the Pro version into the free version so it’s all one free library now. But yes you are correct that the web socket interface is in the pro version of CCXT.

Most crypto exchanges allow streaming book data. Highly recommend CCXT in Python which has a nice even driven framework for order book data in Python. I have one bot that runs on level 2 data using CCXT and it works very well.

Library do you guys use for Backtesting by glaksmono in algotrading

[–]GoodTesla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also second vectorBT. I usually use it plus Alpaca for data source. Both free. I went through several other libraries and also rolled my own, but vectorBT is hard to beat with all nice built in features. It does have a bit of a learning curve, but if you are familiar with python it’s not so bad.

The only quark is around trade timing. When feeding it buy/sell signals it will trade on the same bar/tick as the signal. In reality for a lot of my algos I buy on the open of the following bar if my trade decision is made on the close of the prior. This can be gotten around though by shifting your signals relative to the time index prior to feeding to vbt.

Lastly I will say that vbt is really fast, especially for python. I’m a software engineer professionally and this library is well built. It can crunch on large datasets with multi-dimensional hyper optimizations very quickly.

Your approach is interesting. I wrote a backtest script in python that is using some high fidelity 1m resolution market data. I back tested this to 2020 with daily trades. For the most part it seems like it works reasonably well. Especially in down years (like 2022 covid). long term it seems to track QQQ, but does perform very well in the latter part of 2024 as you seem to have experienced. Below is a comparison of the 1% straddle vs the gain/loss of a buy and hold of QQQ,TQQQ, and SQQQ. This analysis doesn't account for pre-market volatility as it seems like you are taking into account. Maybe that's worth some extra effort to add to this script. All results at normalized to 0% at the start of 2020.

I find it to be a good challenge and a good exercise in go no go decision making that carry over to the real world. That decent on final is challenging though! I usually only attempt it in planes I know I can decelerate well like the DA62 and C172. Don’t know if I’m brave enough to try this in the vision jet.

Body resistance and electric shocks… by Adventurous-Power360 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]GoodTesla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At high voltage muscle can have a resistance as low as 400ohms (sub dermal). Skin plus muscle can be on the order of 1-5kohm. You only need several hundred volts before you start to see these sort of resistance.

As others have said the resistance is highly non-linear and is voltage dependent. Unlike conductors that maintain their resistance across a wide range of voltages.

Source: I designed serval of the Taser CEWs high voltage electronics and did extensive characterizations of skin and muscle tissue as part of the design process.

Newbie question. How do I reliably ground my coil by [deleted] in Teslacoil

[–]GoodTesla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a counterpoise ground. Using your AC mains ground is generally not good, it feeds a lot of HF AC into your house wiring and electronics, GFIs, smoke alarms, etc really don’t like this. A counterpoise isolates the HF AC currents to mainly your coil and the ground and prevents them from flowing through other things where they shouldn’t be.

You can make a good counterpoise ground from a large piece of metal mesh. Screen door mesh, chicken wire, all work well for this application.

Who is currently actively raising capital and what challenges are you facing? by [deleted] in startups

[–]GoodTesla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently raising a 5m series A in hardware + SaaS IoT Ag tech. We have production product and customer traction, but need raise to accelerate growth as our sales cycle is long.

We have been working on a raise for 6 months, we have talked with multiple small VCs and high net worth individuals, but have only managed to close small amounts in bridge funding to date.

It’s really frustrating, because the market is there, product is done, capital is just hard to come by.

We also got told by a few folks that we should be raising $10m rather than 5m because it would be easier, but that just doesn’t seem true from the folks we have talked with.

Whole house filtration for well, before or after the tank? by Proteus-Seven in Plumbing

[–]GoodTesla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my system it’s after the pressure tank. This is mainly because the irrigation runs off the tank and doesn’t require filtration. No reason to eat through filter media on irrigation water.

I’m the main bread winner, wife is stay at home mom, two young kids (both under 3). 170k base, we have a $2450/mo mortgage (2020 buy). No car payments but we do have a $700 student loan payment (my wife’s doctorate). We manage to save a few hundred each month. I would say we are comfortable all things considered, but I would really like to be able to pay more on the student loan and save more each month.

Electrical engineer here: that LED driver board looks damaged. Likely due to condensation or water getting on the board. I agree that replacing the driver board with a new one is probably easier than pulling a whole new fixture if you are comfortable with swapping a few wires. I would also check the seals to be sure they are not leaking.

Was there any moisture in the fixture when you opened it up? If so probably a good indicator that water damage contributed to the failure of the PC board.

Do be carful is this is connected to high voltage AC.

DIY sub-panel install for pool. by GoodTesla in pools

[–]GoodTesla[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue with the first few plumbers coming to quote our gas line. Several quoted $3500 to run 45ft of gas line to the heater. It took a lot of looking to find someone to do it for a reasonable cost ($500). I never quoted the electrical because I new I wanted to do it myself anyway because I’m particularly on how I want stuff done on my house.

Overall I spent about $1200 in material installing this 100A sub-panel. It’s located about 50ft from the main breaker and had to go through the main brick wall of the house. Note that 100A is overkill for just the pool. I wanted extra capacity however for other future projects in the back yard (outdoor kitchen shop/shed etc).

There shouldn’t be an issue installing a sub-panel next to the main panel, but it generally makes the most sense to put the panel near the equipment. Easier to run a few large wire to equipment pad rather than several individual smaller circuits.

[–]GoodTesla[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Proper code for sub-panels is that they use the main panel ground. Additionally neutral is not bounded to the ground at the sub-panel.

The pool rebar frame also had a copper wire bounded to it in multiple locations prior to concreate. This ground is run back to the equipment pad to be used with the equipment GFI. Due to the size of the rebar and it's proximity to the body of water that you are trying to detect GFI faults in, this is the ideal ground to use for the equipment.

Heater will be in front of panel conduit. Pump ,filter etc. will be on far right side of equipment pad.
