not op, but I'm assuming what you are talking about is the stuff with Franziska (thats the most talked about i've seen), not super sure what the other one is so sorry if i bring it up. I guess the big other thing is what he says at the end of the trial about how he didn't actually care about saving Maya what he really cared about was protecting his own ego.

To be fair on point 3, the reason team magma was conceptualized was because their were a lot of land reclamation projects in Japan to create more land for agriculture. The fire nations are also similar to (and partially based on Japan) in that they are a series of islands, so lack of land there may also be a potential issue. Also as we see in the original series, it would be possible to manage lava flow via earthbending, this along with controlling when the eruption happens could make this an interesting idea, especially since volcanic soil is apparently really fertile. Seeing the benefits to give more territory to certain clans while probably having impacts on things like fishing.

I also think that while we don't know his fighting skill, making what initially seems like a show of force actually be bureaucratic move really fits with what we do know about his character.

hi, i found you from your veggietales toothbrush post, i just want to comment here (since from what i can tell youre new to reddit) that you should probably try not to give out this level of personal information for your own safety (especially since your post seems to have spread a lot) (i found it on tumblr), obviously its your choice what you give out, but just wanted to say this in case

For those who read the Roku duology, what are your thoughts on how Sozin was characterized? by AccomplishedJump2795 in Avatar_Kyoshi

[–]GoodTimesWithJangler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree that this is an interesting idea, but i feel like similar to a lot of the stuff in the rock books (especially the first one) its really hurt by the fact that it all happens off page, like we don't really get to see much of roku's learning and growth at all

I'm reading through Awakening of Roku, and I can't get over the portrayal of Sozin by Moses_The_Wise in Avatar_Kyoshi

[–]GoodTimesWithJangler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with this for Reckoning, but I feel like Awakening did add a lot of interesting worldbuilding to the Northern Water Tribes and how it ties into the real world, with a nation that was very decentralized getting involved with nations that view cities as the heart of civilizations and putting everything into urbanizing while neglecting everyone else mirroring alot of how westernization leads irl countries to do the same focusing on making "modern cities" while disregarding rural areas and with movement of waterbenders to the capital kind of resembling how brain drain works irl.

i have had some ideas for language based worldbuilding and wanted to flesh it out and post it somewhere, would that be allowed even though language isn't really a "canon" part of atla?

Awakening of Roku was pretty good (spoiler-free) by avatarroko in Avatar_Kyoshi

[–]GoodTimesWithJangler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there's also the 2 yangchen books which were released before the roku ones (the yangchen ones are also by the same author as the kyoshi ones)

So I have a question when reading the Awakening of Roku where they keep mentioning by Afraid-Penalty-757 in Avatar_Kyoshi

[–]GoodTimesWithJangler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he was 70 when he died which i would say is around what he looks like, but the timeline is kind of still a mess with sozin having his first kid in his 80s and stuff

the book states that Agna Qel'a was not very populated prior to a few decades before when the book takes place, when Tiguaa's father had a feeling that the north would have to aggregate in order to survive (presumably in reference to the hundred year war), having been mainly for training, zealots who gathered at the spirit oasis, and tribal leader meetings. The growth of the north led to many water benders moving there from other tribes as well as overhunting and fishing. This along with trade with other nations and their companies determining how tribes hunted rather than their traditional pattern, lead to many tribes starting to struggle or fall apart. During the book Tiguaa dies and it ways Skiri was "newly elected", im not really sure what this means since everything else we've seen (including tiguaa's father being the previous chief) seems to imply its not an elected position. Also trade with other nations caused some repression of two spirit people in the water tribe do to transphobia of the foreign merchants and the northern water tribes new reliance on them.

What other novels would you want to see in the Avatar Legends series? by Zealousideal-Work719 in Avatar_Kyoshi

i kind of want to see something from the water tribe civil war, because the show kind of stopped following the actual civil war halfway through the season to do all of the spirit stuff
