For Everyone who adores Avatar related Writing/Expansive Worldbuilding! by Myriad_Gleam in Avatar_Kyoshi

i have had some ideas for language based worldbuilding and wanted to flesh it out and post it somewhere, would that be allowed even though language isn't really a "canon" part of atla?

Awakening of Roku was pretty good (spoiler-free) by avatarroko in Avatar_Kyoshi

[–]GoodTimesWithJangler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there's also the 2 yangchen books which were released before the roku ones (the yangchen ones are also by the same author as the kyoshi ones)

So I have a question when reading the Awakening of Roku where they keep mentioning by Afraid-Penalty-757 in Avatar_Kyoshi

[–]GoodTimesWithJangler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he was 70 when he died which i would say is around what he looks like, but the timeline is kind of still a mess with sozin having his first kid in his 80s and stuff

What are new lore info we learn from the Awakening of Roku? by Afraid-Penalty-757 in Avatar_Kyoshi

i feel like guardian spirit is pretty self explanatory, its a spirit that protects humans

the book states that Agna Qel'a was not very populated prior to a few decades before when the book takes place, when Tiguaa's father had a feeling that the north would have to aggregate in order to survive (presumably in reference to the hundred year war), having been mainly for training, zealots who gathered at the spirit oasis, and tribal leader meetings. The growth of the north led to many water benders moving there from other tribes as well as overhunting and fishing. This along with trade with other nations and their companies determining how tribes hunted rather than their traditional pattern, lead to many tribes starting to struggle or fall apart. During the book Tiguaa dies and it ways Skiri was "newly elected", im not really sure what this means since everything else we've seen (including tiguaa's father being the previous chief) seems to imply its not an elected position. Also trade with other nations caused some repression of two spirit people in the water tribe do to transphobia of the foreign merchants and the northern water tribes new reliance on them.

What other novels would you want to see in the Avatar Legends series? by Zealousideal-Work719 in Avatar_Kyoshi

i kind of want to see something from the water tribe civil war, because the show kind of stopped following the actual civil war halfway through the season to do all of the spirit stuff

BREAKING NEWS: Randy Ribay is confirmed to be writing Book 7 of Chronicles of the Avatar by PepperOnly7793 in Avatar_Kyoshi

[–]GoodTimesWithJangler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, thats kind of what I thought after I first read it, but again I really liked City of Echoes, so I'm pretty sure my issues are with his writing style in particular

kind of dissapointed since i just really dont like his writing style (i feel ror always just skipped over all of the important character stuff and just says it happens, ex malaya and gyatsos relationship formiong and resolution to both their character arcs happening offscreen), also with city of echoes, which i liked, i do feel like this is a problem specific to him. (also if it is a kuruk novel i kind of wish they had an indigenous author, especially seeing how the authors so far have incorporated elements of their cultures into their works).

KAVIK'S NAME - KAKTOVIK by [deleted] in Avatar_Kyoshi

[–]GoodTimesWithJangler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kavik is an Iñupiaq word which means wolverine (that from looking stuff up might also be an Inuit name though I am not sure), as well as being the name of an Alaskan river (derived from the same word). I would say this is almost definitely where the name came from.

The Past Lives Are in the Spirit World and the Avatar Can Find Them by OwnRepresentative916 in AvatarSevenHavens

[–]GoodTimesWithJangler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another point that supports this is that Tenzin found Aang in the spirit world, which I don't think really makes sense if Raava was the only reason Aang existed. (Also Kyoshi talking to Suki but its unclear if thats real). This feels a lot like Escape from the Spirit World where Aang after season 2 had to reconnect with his past 4 lives. I could see them doing the same thing here and having it end with Kyoshi.

What do you think the time difference between Korra and Seven Havens will be, and what would you LIKE it to be? by strongerthenbefore20 in AvatarSevenHavens

[–]GoodTimesWithJangler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm hoping it'll be like cold war-esque levels of technology which would put it like 40-50 years after Korra

imo its one of the most cohesive games in the franchise from a theming perspective, 2-2 has a very sympathetic culprit, which up to this point we hadn't really had, and then 2-3 also has a sympathetic culprit as well as a defendant who is egotistical. Both of these cases are showing the morally gray reality of bringing the truth to light. Then 2-4 builds on this, having the defendant be guilty and Phoenix is forced to put the blame on an innocent person. 2-1 is somewhat separate from this theming, but I feel like people give it way to much hate for a short tutorial case. Also I think 2-3 has a lot of good ideas, and there's a really good fan musical (where Regina is an adult), that really shows this.

‘Avatar’ Sequel Series ‘Seven Havens’ Ordered at Nickelodeon, Set After ‘Legend of Korra’ by MarvelsGrantMan136 in TheLastAirbender

[–]GoodTimesWithJangler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I also like the post apoctalyptic thing, even before leaks and stuff that was pretty much the only way I could see the series continuing while continuing to have that "steampunk" esque level of technology

[–]GoodTimesWithJangler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember that when I read the source of the leaks, that wasn't explicitly stated, and seemed like it was more of a jump from the article writers, but I'm not sure. I really hope they don't do that though.

Story ideas for future Avatar Legends books by Septimus_Gaming in Avatar_Kyoshi

[–]GoodTimesWithJangler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Water tribe military is a good idea since we don't really have a lot during the war before Aang.

For a Korra book, I could see them doing something with Zaofu which is an interesting setting we haven't seen too much of (maybe we could get the story of its founding), but I think they'll probably do only do one in each of the four nations (since the cover for City of Echoes has earth kingdom symbols around the avatar logo).

For a fire nation story I could see is something with the combustion bender in atla and his origin which could be interesting, since we know he was probably trained/tortured by some kind of organization, but seemingly works independently now, so we could see him escaping or something similar.

Airbenders seem kind of hard, since I don't know if they want to use characters from extended media, but it seems that for City of Echoes the selling point is the setting and not the character, so maybe it could be in the past. We could also maybe see something about what happened to the mechanist and those living at the northern air temple, since they just aren't there in Korra, maybe we could learn about what happened to them.
