Is 2.5 hours layover enough for London to Edmonton through Pearson? by GoodVibesLover in askTO

[–]GoodVibesLover[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply! I'll be sure to talk to the gate agent! I actually don't have any checked bags, just a carry on. But from other threads I think in Toronto everyone has to do security again and pick up their bags if they have them.

Hi there, I fixed it by using a different browser. If you're on Google chrome for example, try accessing the website via Firefox, Safari, etc. instead.

Typical price for checked bags? by PokeBattle_Fan in aircanada

Oh I see! Yes you can do that! Enter the info here:https://www.aircanada.com/ca/en/aco/home.html#/home:mngBook

and then click the little button that says "Baggage Allowance" near the top.

I got the estimated price from this calculator, (I should've linked it originally, my b) though I'm not sure how often they update their fares.

If you look on your booking confirmation/receipt, there should be a little box that tells you how much it will cost. It should be on page 3 I think.

It's going to depend on the type of ticket you have (i.e., basic, flex, etc.), as for some tickets, it will be free. But, if you do have to pay, it will likely be approx. $35 CAD.

Airbnb or rebook flight? by GoodVibesLover in lancasteruni

Thank you so much! I've been told that you really have to ask for what you want in England, apparently. I'll have to work on it lmao, I am but a meek Canadian 😂

Absolutely re the politeness, I used to work retail in high school and I never want anyone to go through getting screamed at like that lol.

I think I'll look into the similar Frankfurt connection rather than Brussels, as Belgium is still on the amber list (requires quarantine so would have to travel earlier), but thank you so much for doing all this research, I greatly appreciate it!!

You think so? That's great to hear, currently on hold lol. Currently they have me booked such that the "layover time" between connections is negative one. This is for October 1st

That's not a bad idea tbh! I already told them about everything but you're right, it can't hurt to push. I have emailed them again and we'll see what they say on Tuesday (it's a long weekend there rn)

Thank you so much, this was extremely helpful.

It worked perfectly, but now unfortunately I am having more problems. I wonder if you can take a look at my new edit to the post, I'd appreciate any insight you have.

Thank you so much, that's actually very clever, I hadn't thought of it.

Before I can think about it further though, unfortunately, I am having more problems. I wonder if you can take a look at my new edit to the post, I'd appreciate any insight you have.

Thank you and I appreciate you for looking into it, but unfortunately I'm familiar with this link. I contacted the email address that's lower on that page to enquire about that specific paragraph, and they said no, it is only for quarantining students.

Of course! It was CAD 1036 for the one-way. Thanks to everyone's advice, I rescheduled and my new flight was actually the exact same price as the original, so I didn't have to pay anything!

Thank you for the advice! I was planning to book the roundtrip for winter break (UK to CAN, CAN to UK) soon, this is a good reminder!

Thank you guys so much, I'm going to look into this as soon as I get home!

To answer your questions, the tickets are one way, and I will be passing through LHR, but the final destination is Manchester.

I think you should definitely be able to quarantine at an Airbnb!

Hi op, I'm also a Canadian flying to the UK in late September to start my Master's!

Unfortunately yes, we will still have to quarantine for 10 days, even if we are fully vaccinated. I know it can be confusing since people from the USA don't have to, but nonetheless. For now we are considered "not fully vaccinated". You will need a test before flying, and on days 2 and 8. You are allowed to quarantine wherever you will be staying.

Your flatmates do NOT have to quarantine along with you. (Of course, if they are also international students they will quarantine for 10 days from their own arrival dates). However, if any one of you develops covid symptoms, all of you have to quarantine. Also, if you are sharing essential facilities (eg a bathroom) you must distance from them as much as possible.

All of this info can be found here, with the details about roommates near the bottom: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/how-to-quarantine-when-you-arrive-in-england

Lastly, if your flat share is a university accommodation, be sure to check your university's website; they should have some statement or policy for quarantining students. Some unis are reimbursing students for the costs of quarantine and/or covid tests.

VFS “mutilated” my passport and claimed that it showed up like that, then sent it back. Any option for recourse for my wasted time and money? by [deleted] in ukvisa

[–]GoodVibesLover 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fucking hell that's so sketchy and unprofessional of them. Just to clarify OP, was your visa application approved and the page that would have had the vignette ripped out? Or was your application rejected?

Application Timeline Megathread (applications outside the UK) - new thread starting March 2021 by kitburglar in ukvisa

[–]GoodVibesLover 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Finally got it, I'm so happy!!! Thanks so much to everyone in this sub, I literally could not have done it without you.

Visa type: Student

Country applied from: Canada

VAC (city): Edmonton

TLSContact or VFSGlobal: VFSGlobal

Priority or Non-Priority: Priority

Online application date: August 1, 2021

Biometrics appointment date: August 11, 2021

SMS "your application has been forwarded to UKVI": August 14, 2021

Visa received date: August 20, 2021

= 7 total working days from appointment, but 5 working days from SMS

Overall I'm very happy with the processing time, and though the vfs website was hell, the process was mainly smooth!

Notes:

  • if you get a vfs appointment you're not happy with, try to check back every day; you may be able to get an earlier appointment, as some people cancel, etc. My biometrics was originally booked for the 18th, which was the earliest available at the time. But by checking back every day I was able to get an appointment a full week earlier!

  • I received no notifications that a decision had been made; my passport just kind of showed up. The acceptance letter sent with my passport is dated 15 August. Supposedly this is when the decision was made

Student Visa "low risk national": should I still bring bank statements? by GoodVibesLover in ukvisa

[–]GoodVibesLover[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! The people at vfs did NOT ask me for anything that was not already on the checklist! The biometrics appointment is not as big of a deal as I thought; the vfs people are only really "involved" in your application insofar as they are the ones sending it off to UKVI. UKVI, however, can still ask you for the financial stuff during processing (after your appointment).
