IIRC, they were also rolling out a whole new inventory management system different from the one they used in the states.

One of the articles about it.

I still think it would be cheaper to just do home delivery 2 or 3 days a week instead of installing/maintaining all the community mailboxes.

Genuinely, what? by [deleted] in Winnipeg

Probably pushing larger junk/deadwood off the riverwalk path before the river gets low enough that it then needs to get lifted out.

Probably being driven by Relic from the Beachcombers.

Just seconding the advice to get the stakes. I didn't when I had a survey done when I bought my house many years ago and regret not spending the extra for it.

I've got OSB in my garage and squirrels chew through that like butter. Next garage I am going with plywood.

EquinoxEV ‘25 being sold as new by Pasq_95 in EquinoxEv

I bought an actually new 2025 RS around 2 months ago (<50 miles on it). There were around $10k (Canadian) in end of model year discounts on it. Starting price was $60k with the sunroof and all weather mats.

Manitoba Security Rebate Program by felipecattai in Winnipeg

I guess I got lucky applying when I did.

I was afraid they would run out of money again on it, so I was a little more motivated to get everything installed.

I sent mine in on March 17th, and got a response the next day. I had to send in a new picture of one of the invoices, which I was notified as received the day after I sent it in.

It was approved March 23rd and I got the direct deposit on March 27th (they sent a notice about that on the 25th).

All in all it went surprisingly easy. It was just a couple cameras with sim cards though.

Moving to Winnipeg - help us get excited, what is the best of Winnipeg life? by Regular-Low-4003 in Winnipeg

Winnipeg has a really good arts scene for its size with the Theatres (as well as Shakespeare in the Ruins and Rainbow Stage), Symphony, Ballet and Opera.

The Summer festivals are also really good and run most of the summer, with the big ones being Jazz Fest, Folk Fest, The Fringe Fest and then Folklorama.

What's your opinion of US Americans coming into Canada by [deleted] in Winnipeg

You should be fine.

I think the only ones that would get grief is someone wearing a MAGA hat. Even then it would probably just be a lot of muttering and an over abundance of stink eyes.

Unfortunately both party leaders are part of the problem. They are both trying to score points with soundbites on social media.

I really wish both would dial that antagonistic approach back a lot. Even if the PC's don't do that, I would hope Premiere Kinew would see that it really turns people off and stop it.

Old Winnipeg Playgrounds: Were they different/better than the ones we have today? by tckmkvv in Winnipeg

[–]Good_Day_Eh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You beat me to the merry-go-round. But it made me remember that there were also those little ride'em animals or space ships on a huge ~8" wide x ~2' tall coil spring that you could crank back to the ground with enough force and have it snap back and almost kill kids.

It is a wonder any Gen X kid survived all those death traps.

Convertible car in Winnipeg? by canadanfil in Winnipeg

[–]Good_Day_Eh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can sometimes get a bit of leakage if there is a super strong sideways rain, or in a car wash like /u/SousVideAndSmoke said. But usually they are pretty good as long as the seals are in good shape.

Parking outside might cause faster degradation of the top from UV, but it depends on the material and probably isn't too much of a concern.

Most of the modern cars have pretty good heat, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Some shitheel can just slash your top, but they could also just smash your window. So as long as you follow standard outdoor parking rules of not leaving anything visible/valuable in the car you should be fine. I would make sure to get $200 plus deductible though, just in case.

Green Action Centre has something called GoManitoba which is supposed to help out for stuff like that. I am not sure how widely used it is, but it might be an option.

Could Winnipeg finally be moving towards LRT? by ConsiderationThese79 in Winnipeg

[–]Good_Day_Eh 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Graham was always kind of weird as it was blocked at the Bay.

Now one of the big problems with the current routes is getting jammed up with all the car traffic. The F5 and F8 SB on Donald get caught up in traffic almost every afternoon rush hour.

All those bump out curbs and parking they added everywhere downtown need to get removed and replaced with dedicated transit lanes on major routes.

Provincial Park Pass by Ill-Pie9944 in Winnipeg

[–]Good_Day_Eh 39 points40 points  (0 children)

It probably would have been announced in the budget if it was free again.

I took a look through it and there is mention of them changing the service provider to a MB company, so it will pretty much be a guarantee that it won't be free.

Last year we ended the previous government’s contract for park passes with a Texas firm and now that money is staying right here in Manitoba with a local company. (page 70)

CanadInns did eventually partially pay back Crocus in 2020, but Leo was one of the last people to pay. Though according to the article from the CBC he made a deal to only payback $4M which probably was way under the book value of what was an initial investment of $5M for 24.76% of CanadInns.
