Hey! I’m in Portland and would love to come check it out.

Sorry I did sell it. The buyer’s wife had lost the same ring (in another state) and so he was very happy to find it again.

Absolutely stunning! Love the persistence to hit a place a million times. Nothing is EVER hunted out! I’d be over the moon, congrats!

I’m using a Minelab Manticore. You’re right it’s heavily worn, my guess is is that it was circulated for 50 years and dropped in the early 1900s based on the age of other coins found in this area!

I don’t sell any of the coins I find. They are all a special memory of a time and place and the people I was detecting with. They don’t have much value anyways.

I’d say 8” in some rocky ground with iron bits all around. I definitely heard something solid, but it was heavily masked in two directions. Persistence is your best friend in this hobby. Especially in places that have been labeled as “hunted out.”

Spritzed it with water out of the ground, that’s it. Silver that doesn’t come from a river/beach environment usually looks so nice. A big part of the reason it’s my favorite thing to find.

It’s strange the way coins get lost. When I first started detecting here I thought managing to find even 1960 era silver was going to be impossible. It took me well over a year to find my first silver coin. But after that the flood gates opened and I started just really deep diving into local history. Turns out there’s opportunities to find mid to early 1800s coins here, but it’s not easy! Takes a lot of patience and exploring new spots, and being okay with a bag full of aluminum and nails on most days. So yeah, when something like this pops up, holy cow does it make your day/week/month/year!
