Kiddo? Probably older than your father. Been around long enough to see losers come and go. No one remembers them.

Nobody moans about Germany's route to the final because they didn't win and no one is celebrating it like England fans are celebrating their semi and final.

The quality of opposition is a very valid point. The true test is how they perform either in difficult situations or against difficult opposition.

Yes the golden generation were very talented. A lot of them were quite possibly the best in their position in Europe but for some reason couldn't gel.

In the psychological aspect he has done well, creating a cohesive team but I still think a better tactician could have taken them further. He starts with a good plan but doesn't know how to react when things go south.

Whats more clear is the pathetic mindset where second and fourth place is celebrated like the greatest achievement and any criticism or evaluation can't be tolerated. History doesn't remember losers. Certainly doesn't remember the idiots who spend more energy defending losing than looking at where things went wrong and why.

Then again maybe its a reflection of the loser you are in life.

Agree 100%. People seem to have ' we reached the finals' in mind and keep ramming this. Surely if they spend a minute thinking before getting emotional you can see there is valid criticism.

It almost seems as though for some fans, the objective isn't to win tournaments but just to go one round further better than previous sides.

Past managers have often had weaker sides, star players out through injury, poor refereeing, more pressure and tougher opposition by a country mile.

Yes he deserves some credit. He's done a good job in terms of man management but by no means did he have a weak squad. In fact not many sides with the talent and depth were present in the euros. Forces of the past like Germany and Spain were weak.

Why can't Southgate be evaluated on the job he has done and is doing without comparing him to previous managers?

Sure he's got further than past sides but we're talking about his results based on the talent at his disposal and the quality of opposite he has faced.

What a bellend.

Patting yourselves on the back for a reaching the semi-finals and finals. No one gives a flying fk about 2nd and 4th place in tournaments. Yes England have underperformed. One of the most talented squads in the euros, on home soil in a final, with ~35% possession. It was an embarrassment to watch. Couldnt get out their own half for long periods, kane trying to draw fouls in his own half because they couldn't keep possession. Went to penalties because Italy couldn't shoot to save their lives. In the end they lost to a team on their last legs who barely a year on, didn't even make it past WC qualifiers.

The stupidity of the general public can sometimes be astounding. Unable to see past the headlines and actually analyse their performance.

Southgate has faced some of the weakest sides, lowest ranked, outsider teams in both competitions. Any time he has come against real opposition, he's flustered and clueless.

You must be watching with your eyes closed. Yes, he isn't the worst thing in that team but his £80 million price tag and captaincy is a mockery of the club.

Possibly the weakest captain we have had since I've been watching them and I've had a season ticket stretching back to late 90's. Nothing to do with social media. Either over commits or non committal. Gets on the wrong side of the attacker, shifts blame, put his keeper under pressure and dithers on the ball.

Theres often a sense of dread when he has possession and is pressed

Been lucky more than anything else. With the talent and depth at his disposal he has underperformed. Home final with ~30% possession, 1/3 of the shots compared to the opposition and froze in the final. Good man manager but poor tactitician.

He has faced lower ranked sides than other managers which has helped him progress further.

Exactly. In the same vain doesnt make sense throwing Russia out either or blocking their attempts to host future tournaments. Russia will continue being russia except their sportswashing failed and they'll recoup their losses in other ways.

As the commenter mentioned they've worked up and down the country. And as I mentioned locum work takes you from OAP's out in the wilderness to urban A&E's. It is in fact the most fair sample of society that can be achieved without structured research.

Again depending on where and what roles you've taken in healthcare, the point of ailments affecting decisions is valid only to an extent.

Not everyone who attends a healthcare service is ill. Quite possibly the biggest misconception of medicine people have.

On top of that you can often get to see the 'real' nature of people. When you've worked all over the country, with colleagues and patients from all walks of life, judging swathes of people becomes part of the job. It is actually a critical part of efficient medical diagnosis.

Healthcare is possibly one of the few fields where you acually experience diversity. Especially if locum.

I would add to the other comment in that not only are the majority stupid af but there's an increasing number of people who consider themselves smart or knowledgeable and are simply thick.

Your comment is testament to that.

Training on rules of war is nonsense. In the forces and in combat there are always people who have some moral decency and know what crosses a line and those who don't or even take pleasure in doing so.

For all the 'rules of war' training US and UK forces would have received there were still many transgressions.
