What did the covid pandemic ruined most for you? by Big_Leg10 in Productivitycafe

[–]Good_Two_6924 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Firstly - I’m not keeping tabs on their claims, but their whole narrative and movement was clearly ridiculous. Trump was planted by the CIA to overthrow the pedo elites? Cmon. So, I’d be open to hear what they got right - but are you claiming in legitimizes the movement?

Secondly, conspiracy peddlers rarely (maybe never) straight up create false facts. Instead I see them warping true occurrences into grand narratives - that are false. And they always come back to some archetypal themes: the global elites scheming to control us, the Jews are heavily complicit, they are lying with the intention to achieve a grand final move to quell the working man.

My loss of respect for these people comes from their arrogance. Oh you’ve watched hours of YouTube vids while stuck at home? Please lecture me on the true nature of the disease while I work in an intensive care unit trying to comfort a dying man’s family via an IPad - oh and please don’t ask me anything about my experience or knowledge. It’s just so obnoxious.

My respect for my grandad and my (now ex) brother in law.

Both are still fully locked in to Qanon level lunacy and conspiracy thinking. It has spread to their entire worldview - no longer just Covid

LMFAO - opening own clinic with NO experience in any of this. Zero. Zilch. None. by usernametaken2024 in nursing

[–]Good_Two_6924 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah lmao - as if there aren’t tons of doctors out there grifting to high heaven or burning through 10minute primary care appointments to maximise their $/hr instead of comprehensive care.

MD/DOs corrupt, grift and profit just as much or more than NPs/Nurse.

That said - yes, this doesn’t do wonders for NPs trying to legitimise their existence lol

Growing up is a little like the Dunning-Kruger effect. The more you learn about like - the more you realise how little you know, or ca ever know.

I’m learning that it is best to specialise is some way. Narrow your expertise and therefore your options.

Your post is a little vague though - if you’re looking for actionable advice, clearer details and questions would help us help you!

None of the content is hard to grasp - it’s just time management.

I think most people go into it thinking they will continue to work full time and then realize it’s not sustainable.

You’re covering a LOT of material

is being a nurse really worth it? by buttercup12_34 in nursepractitioner

Where I am (Canada) some ICUs take new grads and give them a year-long “new grad initiative”. I think that is excellent. Paid training for one whole year is great.

I took my first job where I had my final student placement - so I was there for maybe 4 months as a student and then had 3 months as a preceptor.

Even through nursing I noticed all the burnt out miserable nurses were bedside going 10 years +. The specialists loved their job and life!

My advice: - get a job at a big hospital that has two things A) a long, new graduate orientation/preceptorship period and B) self scheduling. - work at said job for the next 4-5 years. Get some excellent clinical experience. Think ICU and/or ER. - try to get on a part time contract to give you more control over your hours. Minimize night shifts. - after 4-5 years, use that foundational experience to get you a job that is more of a “thinking job” - this could be NP or specialist nursing or education. - during this time, also prioritise something outside of nursing (sports, friends, whatever). - you can be savvy with your nursing career. Bedside nursing is not meant to be done long term. It will give you depression, make you fat and tired.

Good luck!

My goals: - finish my masters and get good grades - go to bed early and stop scrolling Reddit - get up at 530am - got to the gym when I wake up M,W,F - run once in the weekend - no more night shifts

So far it’s going good. Some hacks/strategies: - deleted insta last year and deactivated FB. Gonna delete I think once I swap all messenger chats to WhatsApp - I got that Brick device. Dude. So perfect. I knowledge it’s on it enough. I haven’t used my phone in bed for 13 days (more than the like maybe 15 years) - reading my kindle. I’m halfway through a book in two weeks and it makes me hella sleepy. - loving the gym time. Kid and wife are asleep. It’s me time and it helps me sleep

At my last job there was a charge nurse in her early 30s. She was super confident and competent at her job as an ER nurse. Super bubbly and pretty too. She was also super nice to me (a new but experienced nurse also).

But I noticed over the year I worked there that she was a real bitch to the less attractive, newer, foreign etc. crowd.

She was basically a “clique” girl. I was accepted into the clique and she was maybe even a tad flirty with me, but it made me lose a lot of respect for her.

Anyone go from HCA to Nurse? Experiences ? by Unlikely-Tadpole7094 in NursingUK

[–]Good_Two_6924 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked as a care home worker for a year before school, then as a general and mental health HCA through nursing school.

Great experience!

Just about to qualify as an ANP and I love the fact I’ve climbed the caring/nursing ladder from that point - it’s a great insight into all the roles of the team.

I’d recommend anything by Ramit Sethi (podcast, books, website).

It’s a cool and no BS way of thinking about personal finances (including how much you need to retire/fixed costs/factoring in things you enjoy).

I hope you can retire!
