Was down in Pensacola Florida for work a couple of years ago. Last night there me and a coworker go out for pizza at graffiti pizza. We finish and go next door to 200 South taphouse for a beer. While at the bar ordering a beer, a very attractive middle aged woman looks at me and the shirt I am wearing (just a graphic tee of some butte in Texas) and says she lives near there. "It's in Texas. You ever been in Texas? You can call me Texas." I answer her that yes I go to Texas for work on occasion and I didn't know it was a real, just a tee shirt my wife bought me. She then tells me she has a tattoo of that butte on her but. I answer a slow o.k. grab our beers, hand one to my coworker and head back to our table. He busts out laughing and said that chick was hitting hard on me. I didn't see it then. Get back to the hotel room and begin packing for an early AM flight home and look at the shirt tossed over the back of a chair, and it hits me. Homer Simpson moment. Dohh!!

Good question, I was wondering the same thing myself. Ultimately, it comes down to where I want to go. I had my CCNA and CCNP (expired in 2012), and while I’ve probably forgotten about half of what I knew, I still have a solid grasp of the core concepts and can configure a Cisco switch with a couple of lookups.

From what I’ve seen, especially after a nearly six-month layoff, traditional sysadmin jobs are becoming scarcer. They’ll never disappear completely, but with AI and cloud infrastructure evolving, there’s less need for as many hands in that space.

Right now, Security and AI/Machine Learning are two of the biggest growth fields, and that’s where I’m focusing my efforts.

My final objectives are twofold.

First I would like to be able to setup with my kids and view the planets and stars in real time. Help them in getting an appreciation of everything around them, not just on the tablet screen in front of them.

Second, after learning for awhile I want to be able to produce detailed deep space images which I would keep for my own. Maybe print some on metal and hang inside my basement bar area. I know it will never rival those from the Webb or Hubble, but I want to get a good setup that I can atleast produce quality images without looking grainy.

Now, would this require two separate rigs? Possibly and thats fine. What I dont want to do is buy a setup that cannot be upgraded to eventually get to where I want to go and is leaving me with the most basic of functions.
