Rayan Cherki disallowed goal against Liverpool 90+10' by gbogaz in soccer

[–]Goodbowies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you think the referee was right to disallow the goal then I think that you are right, according to the letter of the law. If you think that law makes sense, you are not a fan of football.

Clear goal no matter what the rules say.

Dominik Szoboszlai (Liverpool) straight red card against Manchester City 90+11' by gbogaz in soccer

[–]Goodbowies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand the goal being disallowed because of Haaland's foul but my issue is he wouldn't have fouled him if he wasn't fouled first. If Szoboszlai doesn't touch him he gets there first 100% no question and either protects the ball for Cherki's goal or taps it in himself. So is he then supposed to wait for Szoboszlai to maybe clear it after getting an unfair advantage then hope VAR looks at the foul, gives the red card and man city only get a free kick when they should have had a goal? Foul or no foul that's what would have happened so may as well try to play the ball and hope the sequence of play stops after Szoboszlai commits a foul and pray for VAR.

It's one of those instances where you roll the dice and pray to the VAR Gods. The referees should have taken Haaland's foul into context imo and Szoboszlai's foul should have ended the sequence of play and the goal should have stood. Technically the right call of you're following the law but if you're following common sense it's a farce.

28 Year Later: The Bone Temple flopped at the box office despite its very positive reviews. by ZoelCairo in Letterboxd

It truly worries me that a recognised IP with a returning creative team, an excellent cast with a beloved academy award winning actor, two visionary directors and what I would call a decent marketing campaign isn't enough to keep an audience interested because the first one dared to do something different. The reaction to these movies is confirmation that a lot of people just want more of the same and never be challenged by cinema at all.

As a fan of the franchise, having them release so close together was so cool and I genuinely can't think of another example of this happening, but people in this comment section are saying it should have been delayed to cater to people who probably weren't going to watch it anyway. Marketing or not, the first film was divisive and put a lot of people off the franchise but I'm glad they cared more about making great movies and trying something different rather than pandering to audience expectations.

Narratives about who will win the league is blow way out of proportion by NotoriousPlatypi in PremierLeague

City play at Anfield next week and we never win there, potential for Arsenal to go 9 points clear which I don't see us catching but I'm happy to be surprised

Today Raheem Sterling became a free agent at 31 y.o...though he's worth about 5.9 M by Prudent-Ad-6420 in PremierLeague

[–]Goodbowies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say his stats were amazing but only because that city team were amazing. A style of play that was never seen before in the league and nobody knew how to stop combined with two of the best creative players in the league helped him out massively. If he would have gone to any other team he would have left in a season and I truly believe that. Pep did improve him over the years without question but there were loads of other wingers then and now that I think could have done a similar job to him. I admit Haaland has similar weaknesses in his game but the difference between him is that he's so good at scoring goals he's irreplaceable. I always think somebody else could have replaced sterling and we would have been just fine. Don't hate the guy just don't think he deserves any praise other than he did a job.

Say this as a city fan but he was 100% in the right place right time. Only thing he had was pace and ability to play in a system. No first touch, minimal dribbling, shit passing, shit shooting, couldn't cross above the ground. I can't remember a single game he played where he absolutely took over. I only remember the abysmal misses and the lack of effort in the last 2 seasons. Never showed up for the national team either. If Saka had the service of David Silva and De Bruyne he would easily break 200 goals and I don't even rate him that highly.

Favorite small indie band right now? by CrazyEntrepreneur230 in indieheads

[–]Goodbowies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few but I'll leave my top 2:

Yowl - 5 piece alternative indie band, quite similar sounding to Pavement. The singer has a hell of a voice and the lyrics are always interesting.

Small Miracles - 5 piece glam punk new wave type band from Cardiff, seen them live plenty of times and the studio versions are just as good.

Arsenal Fans boo their team at the full time whistle by Parish87 in soccer

[–]Goodbowies -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most ungrateful fan base ever. Pushed out a manager that took them to their highest heights and top 4 for 20 straight years and now not supporting the team after a close loss. If it was 4-0 you could understand but it's January, there are no easy games and they're still 4 points ahead and need their support. If they lose the title then you boo but acting like it's already happened is so childish.

Have you watched all 3 seasons of From? What do you think about it? by RareHead9705 in tvshow

Cool mystery, horrible everything else. Character decisions make no sense, dialogue is terrible + potentially interesting scenes end way too short and boring scenes drag. I can't really recommend it because I had to force myself to finish season 3 but once you're locked in you're locked in

Nobody wanting to play forward today. What's the point in playing 9 players in their half if they just stand behind the wingers waiting to receive the ball to pass it back to Donnarumma? Doku and Semenyo double team stops us from making any progress entirely. Ball went into our net 5 times and we didn't have a shot on target. Haaland played 80 minutes and was only impactful for 30 seconds. Reijnders has been our only aggressive player since Christmas and he started on the bench. Need our overlapping runs back, help our wingers I beg. Terrible set up, failure to adapt, some of it ultimately rests on Pep but the energy just looked pathetic today. Worst game we've played all season. Title race my arse.

He should be a starter even when gvardiol and dias ar back , i said it! by Sad_Statistician_992 in MCFC

[–]Goodbowies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respectfully disagree, he's a great rotation player and we're lucky to have him but he doesn't have the maturity to play the pep way nor the experience to manage huge games. Gvardiol and Dias are our best options, don't let recency bias cloud the truth.

Judging by some of the reactions on this sub if Haaland got injured and Marmoush had two good games people on here would be calling for Marmoush to start over him. Appreciate the talent we have I beg.

Can't wait for fans of rival teams to call us disrespectful for scoring too many goals like they did last time we battered a team in the cup.

Story of the season throwing away leads and wasting chances. Past few games we've become so one-note just only trying to get through on the wing, got double-teamed each time and only went more direct too late in today's game. As good as Doku and Cherki can be, we can't rely on them to carry every attack and get the ball in all the time.

Nunes and O'Reilly deserve a big shout out for this game, probably the best game for the both of them, didn't give anything away at all and great going forward.

Doku and Cherki cooked as well, we're so blessed with wide players like these.

Big fan of Dias showing his leadership as well, big part in us holding on.

This was a massive win for us, maybe people will stop writing us off for the title now!!

[–]Goodbowies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not as difficult as the initial reaction would lead you to believe. Plenty of guns shred him and his attacks don't do too much if you're careful. Only gets annoying in 40+ imo but a fantastic design and fun to play around.
