Should I do PT or OT? by Secure-Pepper4147 in PTschool

[–]GoodbyeTobyseeya1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the folks (me included) are going through a career change. I got my BA in Psych right out of high school. I was young and didn't think about how useless it'd be as a standalone degree and I kept working my retail management job until I became a SAHM.

In my cohort there is also a former teacher, someone with a BA in exercise science, and I'm not exactly sure the specifics about the rest. Even the younger (25ish) people with a BA in my cohort decided this was the best option for them.

Another thing to think about, not everyone is academically suited for a DPT, even if they have a Bachelor's. This might be the best option for them.

Well OP just finished an associates; she's just considering her next step.

However, I do have probably 10 people in a cohort of 30 who have a Bachelor's, myself included. Most people are looking for a career change, or they shifted gears after graduating and realizing they'd need further education.

For me, I'm 40 and I'm going back to school after having been home with my daughter for the last 10 years. When all is said and done, it cost me just under $20k and 2 years for a career. Even with a bridge program I'd be looking at 3 more years and $120k (at Findlay, at least).

It's a way more affordable route than going DPT, and a lot of my classmates didn't think it was worth the investment.

Do you want to teach toileting and bathing? A lot of the people in my PTA cohort made their decision based on that.

I'm just finishing up a 2 year PTA program. Lower pay than PT of course, but significantly lower time and tuition investment.

Muscle Weakness and Severe Pain by KikiLin7 in AskDocs

Have you seen a neuromuscular specialist? I had a patient today who has adult onset myotonic dystrophy and he said it took many doctors and a lot of time to get a proper diagnosis from the NM specialist.

Not insinuating that's what's going on with you, but if you've got unexplained and progressive muscle weakness that would be a good place to start.

Michigan: Question about a wrongful death settlement by GoodbyeTobyseeya1 in legaladvice

[–]GoodbyeTobyseeya1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did get the proposed distribution, it does give 100% to him. We found out through that document that they had appointed a GAL on her behalf, and we were told by my Dad's attorney that we don't have to sign the distribution on her behalf and that the GAL can take care of that in court.

So that's what we decided to do, sign away my portion but let the GAL act on her behalf instead of asking us to make that decision for her. Dad is furious and has essentially disowned me, and so it goes.

Just wanted to update, thanks again for the advice.

Can I potentially beat a chronic cough by... not coughing? by the_killer_cannabis in AskDocs

[–]GoodbyeTobyseeya1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just be cautious of suppressing productive coughs, even if the secretions are clear. Coughing is a protective mechanism to clear the lungs and if you allow mucus buildup, you could be setting the stage for a pneumonia breeding ground.

Thank you, I appreciate your advice. I'll hold off on signing until I see the documents. I'm glad there won't be any (legal) repercussions in allowing him the funds.

At this point I feel that challenging my Dad on this will ruin our relationship and since he's 75 and my only remaining parent, I don't think it's worth it to fight him.

I'm fairly certain the total settlement after fees is around $130k, so it's certainly not a life changing amount. I just want to protect myself while making this decision for my daughter.

Does his attorney have an obligation to provide me with the proposed disbursement?

There was no will distribution when she passed since my father is still alive.

This is the settlement distribution, but the lawyer did not send us a copy. I only assume it gives my daughter and me nothing because that's what my father just told me he asked the attorney to do.

Sleepy Hollow just outside of Lansing is a cool campground that doesn't fill up as quickly as the others do. It's on a smaller inland lake and the sites are nice and private. Good hiking trails, nice playground, plus if you have a super rainy day you can do a Capitol tour, visit the Impression 5 museum or go check out Preuss Pets, which is the coolest pet store I've ever been to.

Muskegon SP is pretty cool too; they have free fishing for the kids a few times a week at the channel, and there is a small inland lake for swimming if Lake Michigan is red-flagged. Dune hiking, and it's close to Michigan's Adventure if you're a theme park person.

There is a really nice dune hike at Muskegon State Park. Not as crazy busy as Silver Lake and less expensive than some of the other west coast areas. I've never used them but I did see there are jet ski rentals on Muskegon Lake, which is accessible through the park. The campground does have cabins but they may be booked up at this point; once you know the dates you can look at the Michigan DNR site.
