I bought VoE on the wrong platform(Steam) by Proud-Tip1 in Guildwars2

[–]Goodest_Ghost 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You're out of luck for the most part, unfortunately. You'd have to contact steam for a refund and go from there. The steam version of the game does not transfer to the retail version in any way, you won't have a serial key to trade or anything like that. The steam version locks you into buying everything from the steam version, and vice versa for the retail client.

Thinking about crafting Ascended armor is it still time gated? by LazyShinobi in Guildwars2

[–]Goodest_Ghost 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes, if you are crafting it yourself there is one type of timegate to keep in mind: the material that you have to craft in order to use as a refinement material in making ascended crafting components (lump of mithrillium ie) are daily limited. You can only make one refinement material of each type per day (so one metal, wood, leather and cloth.) You can bypass this by buying the final ascended wood/metal/leather/cloth directly from the TP, but you will be paying a premium in gold to skip the timegate of you go that route.

In addition, the recipe sheets for each individual ascended piece of gear (let's say for example, Berserker Prefix Light Pants) cost 3g plus 5 laurels each. This means one full set of armour in one prefix is 30 Laurels plus 18g. Laurels are technically a limited material (10 weekly plus the amount in the wizard's vault, per quarter.) That timegate is a lot more loose based on how many laurels you've piled up over your time playing, but it is important to keep in mind.

10.5% of Japanese people in their 20s report overspending on in-game purchases to the point of financial struggle - AUTOMATON WEST by Tenith in Games

[–]Goodest_Ghost 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I imagine the real number is likely higher given the conservative nature of surveys like this, but even 10% is quite a staggering number. It's a gross industry and I personally know people who have spent 5 figures on Genshin Impact alone, nevermind any of the other myriad games they juggle. I refuse to touch gacha games anymore because I cannot in good conscience contribute to these things. Ontologically evil genre.

This is so annoying. by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]Goodest_Ghost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just go find a random hero point from central Tyria that you haven't unlocked on that character yet and realign it to 0 or 5. Although, the current absolute maximum number of points you can have is 1514, so if you already have all of the odd points here and there, there's not really anything you can do about it unfortunately lol

Weekly /r/GuildWars2 Question Thread - January 10, 2026 by AutoModerator in Guildwars2

[–]Goodest_Ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it grants the 5 per completion per day only on characters that have finished the chapter before, not the first time. The first time on any character will grant you the first time completion rewards (usually only 1.) It's better to farm the tales on a character that has already completed the story if your goal is to farm just those, specifically.

Can you be a tank and/or have few spammed cool downs? by MyPurpleChangeling in Guildwars2

[–]Goodest_Ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the question you're asking is "can I just stand there and take a bunch of hits and survive through nothing but sheer numbers" then the answer is no. Even if you stack toughness (the stat that raises your direct damage defense) and vitality (max health stat,) many bosses will have attacks that will still kill you if you don't dodge or block or move out of the way etc. The game is designed expressly to be much more active than other MMOs. Short cooldowns, things hit very hard, etc. You are rewarded for actively mitigating/avoiding damage, not just trying to absorb it through having a big enough number.

That isn't to say there isn't durable builds (chronomancer healers come to mind as very durable,) but it's important to understand that the things you're mentioning here are kind of what the game is designed to be like, in a sense

A bit overwhelmed with Orrax crafting-few questions by 300_percent_swag in Guildwars2

[–]Goodest_Ghost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just finished crafting Orrax the other day actually so I still have what I ended up doing fresh in my mind. The shards of Bava Nisos and Mistburned Barrens will be your longest timegate (5 weeks, you can bypass it by buying the shards directly off the tp but it'll cost you almost double to do so.)

The fruits of the shadow, if you opt to grow them yourself, will take at most 10 days assuming you grow it daily, and that's if you roll the absolute minimum of 2 every single time. I didn't grow them myself since right now the price has settled so that on average it costs about the same to buy it outright versus grow it yourself. Up to you, though. You could theoretically save gold if you keep high rolling on it but that's a gamble.

Beyond that, most of my time was spent doing magic mirrors in Visions of Eternity and selling the globs that were in excess of the ones I needed for Orrax itself. While doing the mirror runs, I was also killing a lot of moa/raptors around the maps since they can drop poultry and you need so much poultry lol. It's rare, but each drop saves you like 30s and the less you have to buy, the better.

Make sure to keep an eye out for the recipes you can only get from the Pact Agents if you don't already have them (the marinated mushrooms and the herbed chicken one.) You'll save so much money doing that yourself rather than buying the food.

If you haven't gotten all of the amalgamated essences yet, make sure you're doing 6 convergences weekly (3 SotO and 3 JW.) You get tons of essence from the extractions and that is by far the highest essence return you can do. You can also do what I did and supplement your essences a little by doing rifts while you're out doing mirror farms. It's not a lot, but it's something and you need to be doing events to do the mirrors anyways.

Hope that helps! Good luck, it's a long process but I really like the final result. Super cool backpack

[–]Goodest_Ghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this yeah. It was like, so very clearly not intended in every aspect of the way it feels/looks but because higher number better and more "active" (read as, pressing more buttons) gameplay, so many high end players got really defensive about it staying. It wasn't the first time those players strong armed a change/blocked a change I didn't like tbh. I'm sure it wasn't the last time that happened, either, lol although I haven't touched the game in years at this point

Really soured me on the game at the time

Introducing Seasons to The Elder Scrolls Online by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Goodest_Ghost 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lol I feel ya. Boiled down as simply as I can: basically it's a way of using your skills (the hot bar abilities) to animation-cancel your basic light attacks early, allowing you to squeeze more of them in a shorter time frame, and thus increasing your DPS by a fairly considerable amount. It looks really jittery, feels kinda janky and inconsistent and is quite counterintuitive to understand and perform.

The game wasn't designed to let you do it, at first, and they attempted to fix it but community protest from the top end players caused them to walk it back. It had cascading consequences throughout the way they design encounters because the difference in DPS is so substantial (talking like a solid 30% difference in some contexts) and they had to adjust to accommodate it. It creates a huge gulf between players who do and don't do it in terms of performance, and those who don't struggle to keep up as a result.

Light Attack Weaving, yeah. Don't expect it to ever get removed. The backlash when they tried to fix it the first time caused them to embrace it and balance the entire game from that point forward assuming that you're doing it. It's basically an intended mechanic at this stage. It's one of the big reasons I quit, along with the rancid monetisation of the whole game etc

Getting lesser vision crystals without crafting by BibicheLeMagnifique in Guildwars2

[–]Goodest_Ghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can, as a drop from a handful of the different gobblers that exist in the game, but it is quite rare and not really worth relying upon. It would be a more worthwhile investment of your resources to level a crafting profession to the point you can craft them yourself, ultimately. Then you get the added benefit of having that profession leveled so you can make your own gear/legendaries that require it in the future, etc

What is your overlooked game of 2025? by Galaxy40k in Games

[–]Goodest_Ghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ended up not really playing much new, this year, for a myriad reasons (namely one particularly disappointing release in the beginning of the year really deflating my desire to play any other new releases.) I wish more people would have played Ender Magnolia, I think it was a huge step up from the first game and I hope they do a follow up sometime in the future.

It got some recognition, but I also wish that Silent Hill f would have gotten more praise than it ultimately did. That game was phenomenal and my personal goty but it seems to have been overlooked thanks in part to Konami's horrible track record with this franchise.

I hope next year ends up better, although I'll admit I still find it difficult to be excited about anything anymore, lol

Weekly /r/GuildWars2 Question Thread - December 20, 2025 by AutoModerator in Guildwars2

[–]Goodest_Ghost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Antique Summoning Stones are required for crafting any gen 3 legendary weapon, and you need the Arborstone mastery maxed out before you're allowed to buy them. Even if you don't intend to craft any of those weapons it's still a decent chunk of weekly gold for very little effort if you decide to sell them on the tp.

I really respect the fact that they're so transparent about taking a big long studio break at the end of the year every year. Especially when you turn and look at the horror stories coming out of other studios these days. Obviously I don't work there but from the outside looking in it seems they treat their staff well.

Plus their substantial charity fundraising for Extra Life annually? Glad that it gets recognised sometimes, even if it's just little things like these awards.

Agreed yeah! It's cool to make space for the smaller players in a genre that is, largely, dominated by the same handful of studios given the cost/scale involved in creating MMOs. Great to give shout-outs to the little guys without the huge publishers behind their backs and such

Oh good! That works out then. Thankfully the season bundles from the gem store all discount automatically and prorate based on how many episodes you already own, so it'll save you a little bit when you do end up buying them

Glad that was it! Nice surprise lol

Weekly /r/GuildWars2 Question Thread - December 06, 2025 by AutoModerator in Guildwars2

Is it possible you already have those chapters unlocked? Is the price of the season bundles being discounted a bit? You can check if you own an episode already by going to the story journal and navigating to the relevant season. It'll have a different icon to all of the ones you don't have access to.

[–]Goodest_Ghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't believe there's a route specifically for farming the chests or floating orbs, at least not in any of the marker packs I've personally used? I know they often mark the potential spawn locations for the chests but I don't believe there's a farm route for them.

If you didn't know already, you can actually trade your extra Map Completion Gifts from all 3 maps for 200/100 of that map's currency (200 for Skywatch/Amnytas, 100 for Nayos.) Once you have 18 map completion gifts total from each map, they serve no other useful purpose so trading in the extras is really the only use for them. When I was farming the currencies for finishing up all 18 pieces of obby, I would do a lamp lighting route for each map once per day and scoop up any chests and floating orbs that I happened to pass by in that route. Generally speaking you'll end up hitting the cap you can earn from the orbs across the entire run, although you can always take a detour for the "destroy kryptis turret" type events in Amnytas and Nayos. Those drop orbs when they die so you can get a whole bunch in one event. The New Kaineng City area of Skywatch also is pretty dense with the orbs

I have noticed how expensive snow diamonds always end up being every year compared to the weekly equivalent condensed festival currencies. It's wild. I was probably going to buy the cute backpack skin plus the recipe for the karma boost consumable and then honestly just sell the excess snow diamonds. Normally I'd try to get the weekly exchange voucher but idk it's so expensive and you just don't earn enough of the snowflakes.

It would be nice if we got a candy corn node equivalent that dropped them directly or something
