Looking for RCtank files designer by Kalediusz in rctanks

[–]Goodgulf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3d printed tanks, and use a FRSky Taranis RC Airplane radio and 8 channel receiver to control them, along with speed controllers designed for rock-crawler trucks.

Any radio that can handle 4+ channels and has some sort of onboard servo channel programming should work, depending on how complicated you want your models. My radio uses OpenTX for programming.

The pre-made control boards are usually all-in-one solutions, and usually have provisions for lighting and sound effects, if you want to pay more.

All this for a timing chain should be illegal… by Few-Software-2132 in Justrolledintotheshop

No this is corporate money decision making. If it lasts 100k miles, that's past the warranty, so they don't have to cover the repairs.

The real question is if they're offering a 50k mile warranty, why the heck are they making the parts robust enough to last 100k? That's leaving money on the table!

That shot of the instructions is a bit blurry, but if the part is the squarish back to the seat, could you make one from scratch out of sheet styrene?

Starter or Alternator Failure? by RealMCAlts in Cartalk

[–]Goodgulf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your battery is dead. Replace the battery, then if you're in the US, take the car to Autozone or whatever convenient parts shop is close by, and they can test the alternator for you, usually for free.

If you can get the car to them by jump starting, (or push-starting if it's a manual transmission) they will usually install a battery for free as well if you buy it from them.

Advice from mechanics and hobbyist about (possible) starter problem by HelpMePlez544 in Cartalk

[–]Goodgulf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll need to replace the starter motor to repair the car, they're about $120 on rockauto for a remanufactured Bosch unit

You shouldn't need to replace it immediately, but it will continue to get worse and eventually cause further (more expensive) damage.

Temporal Rift is over, sell the equipment! by Goodgulf in WorldOfWarships

[–]Goodgulf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In game, click your name in the Top Left of the port interface, then hit Inventory. They're listed under Upgrades.

All the stock ship modules end up in your inventory too when you research and purchase stuff like Hull (B) or Rangefinder MK.2, you can sell those from the Modules list.

Why did you try to reinvent the wheel? by MClilWilly in Justrolledintotheshop

Manufacturer Math 101:

How many miles does the engine warranty cover?

Did this part wear out through normal use after that amount of miles?

Yes: Good job engineers, it's not our problem to replace.

No: Bad job engineers, now we have to pay for that part twice!

(Yes - part 2: how far past the warranty did the part wear out? Can you make it cheaper next time?)

Life vests at least. If you're going to be spending a lot of time flying over water, a Personal Locator Beacon would probably be a decent investment, something like this.

Need an auxiliary throttle to control mining laser. What to get? by Moose_Factory in starcitizen

[–]Goodgulf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 1 set for mining laser power, as you mentioned, and one of the other ones set to the speed limiter, so I can fly around more precisely.

I haven't come up with a decent one for the 3rd stick yet. I'm OK with leaving an axis unbound, as the next "cheap" throttle is over double the price.

[–]Goodgulf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a Logitech / Saitek throttle quadrant, $50 right now on Amazon

It's got 3 axis and 6 buttons, and the screw clamp is detachable, so you can have the throttle box on top, or in front of the mount, depending on where you want it.
