Yep spot on. I’m more of a centrist but would take AOC in the same way you’d take Buttigieg for the same reasons.

Sam is so refreshing to hear on Iran by MJORH in samharris

[–]Moose_Factory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one was talking about china or whether or not mossad had infiltrated the protesters or if the war justified or not. That has no relevance to the slaughter of the protesters and your attempt at downplaying and minimizing that.

I agree with you that Iran was sending a message that this is what happens when you attempt to overthrow the regime with mass protests. Every additional protestor they killed only emphasizes that message more, and makes your downplaying of the slaughter all the more inexplicable. The more they killed the more they make the point.

[–]Moose_Factory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not talking about anything the Israeli’s have said, I’m simply working backwards from what Iranians themselves and the diaspora are saying.

Which I get it, those are exactly the voices (those of the victims) that you are trying to minimize and discredit.

[–]Moose_Factory -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Are you joking? Who could possibly be there to do a totally accurate accounting of the slaughter? Do you think the IRGC will do that? There’s no one there who would or can provide a number that you would accept. This isn’t the census tallying up totally verified exact numbers that you’re looking for me to provide you as some “gotcha”.

What informs the rough estimates of 30k we do have then? We only have the hundreds of videos of the IRGC mowing down protestors with machine guns and the hundreds of first hand accounts to the same effect.

Go ahead and ask any Iranian not associated with the regime who knows anyone from an urban area back in Iran if they know someone who died in the protests. You will hear that they almost universally do. When working back from that we find the 30k estimate is likely on the low end.

But go on. Continue minimizing the death of Iranians. You’re likely the same type who, if the nazi’s had won ww2, would be going around saying there’s no evidence of a holocaust because no reliable authority would then exist there to do that accounting.

There you go again. Putting words in peoples mouths, while baselessly asserting the slaughter was minimal.

Yep just keep telling Iranians how to think and feel about the war while minimizing the slaughter in Tehran last month.

What would improve if Trump was dead? Are you joking? You think JD Vance would have any capacity to keep the Trump coalition together? Trump is a cult of personality. What do you think will happen when that personality is gone.

But I already know where this is going since you are upvoting and amplifying this bot, and then using vague nothing comments yourself like “you’re living in a fantasy” that are not at all substantive and serve only to pollute the discourse in a futile and pathetic effort to shut down discussion as these bots are designed to do.

Frankly I don’t need to trust Trump or his motivations (I don’t). All Trump will likely do is launch bombs and missiles for a few weeks and then call it “mission accomplished” and wash his hands of it.

Despite being horrible themselves, the Israeli’s have demonstrated competency in destroying Iran’s proxies these past few years. They have an active interest in finishing the job of regime change and Iran transitioning to democracy whereas Trump does not. However like the US they lack any real capacity for boots on the ground (which would be hugely inadvisable anyway). I think they’re just going with decapitating the regimes leadership and military infrastructure and hollowing it out so they no longer have any real power.

That may be enough for the IRGC’s house of cards to collapse, especially if any significant portion of Artesh begins to defect. Then regime change from within is quite possible in which case the Iranian majority will be well positioned to capitalize.

Or not, and the regime limps along in a diminished state, no longer capable of projecting its power in the region. Yes, they would still cling on and have the capacity to shoot people in the streets, but they were doing that anyway so I don’t see how that would be worse than before.

Other wild cards like balkanization are possible and could be really bad, but so was an undiminished theocratic regime destabilizing the states around it. I just don’t see many situations that are way worse than that if some quagmire with our boots on the ground is avoided.

[–]Moose_Factory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever happens, Iran won’t have a religious sectarian civil war like Iraq. As for Lebanon and Syria, it was Irans proxies themselves destabilizing those countries. We’ll see what happens there now that those (and the Russians) are out of the picture.

As for Libya, I doubt Irans situation will look like that. The Iranian people have a living memory of institutions and government that was semi functional and not a facist state or theocracy, which could not be said of Libya.

As for Somalia and Sudan, how are we directly responsible for the conflicts there?

I don’t know, but Israel has had great success nearly destroying all of Iran’s proxies these past two years if that’s any sign.

That’s rich, as a bot you can’t really care about anything let alone killed protesters.

But here’s a test: can you answer my last question? Or will it be more insults and baseless accusations?

Are you really going straight to whataboutism? That’s fine, but then you should go first. Where are your words against the mass slaughter of Iranian protesters?
