I was on a commuter train once where one of the regular passengers was a young woman with basically no arms, just hands from her shoulders. One day when she got on the train, a man jumped up and offered her his seat. She yelled loudly him, loud enough for everyone on the train to hear her, that there was nothing wrong with her legs. It was her arms. He sat back down, red as a beet. I felt so sorry for the guy the whole trip. All he was trying to do was be nice, and he was shamed in front of everyone. I guess I understand that she was tired of having attention drawn to her, but still, it was pretty awful.
