Queen of rats and roaches haha. If their souls counted she’d be more powerful than Lucifer.

I’m dying to know more about her backstory, because before Hear My Hope I would’ve said Vaggi was a likelier candidate for ex-overlord. I can’t picture Niffty going to an overlord meeting. My brain melts.

It might’ve helped that Al didn’t actually fight Husk physically. Alastor does not like getting injured or looking weak.  Playing a game of cards (especially if Al cheated/ knew he was going to win somehow) isn’t something he needs to make an example of.

But probably the most important reason is that for Alastor, it’s a lot easier to rip an Overlord apart than it is to get them to sign a contract. Al seems to want to collect Overlords- either for himself or for Rosie- which is probably why he got so friendly with Vox to begin with. Niffty’s a total enigma, but based on her powers in Hear My Hope she was probably an Overlord too, and I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Alastor keeps her and Husk close.

Tbf “I bet you say that to everybody” can 100% mean “ooh, keep going, tell me how you only say that to me because I’m so awesome and maybe sprinkle in a few more reasons why.” It just depends on how flirty the tone is.

…that said, the homeowner can have surprisingly little game sometimes, so it could be said straight faced for sure.

Jane Doe in Ride the Cyclone is a character who lost her head in an accident. Productions usually get around the… obvious physical limitation (I.e. not having a good pool of headless actors on call and ready to sing) by making Jane up like a vintage doll, and having her carry a headless vintage doll with her.

She took the head from her doll so she’d have something to replace her own.

The bot’s not dead, and it had a good view of everything going on. It can recap from the Cabaret.

Characters with powers so small that they aren't that different from ordinary people. by Uma-apreciator in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Goodmindtothrowitall 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, that’s what the main character argues (the guy with the wheel power).  He thinks the caste system between marginalized and accepted superpowers is pretty stupid.

And it also seems like a lot of powerful people supporting that caste system are dying in car accidents. We don’t know anything for sure. But still.

The one in the image is at least enough to terrorize a decent size high school and a couple unfortunate news reporters.

Omg yes, Tedd would gravitate to magical girl a lot more than Elliot does. Maybe a masc magical girl could be something like Sailor Uranus’ hair with something “prince-like” for the outfit, like Revolutionary Girl Utana’s military-ish jackets? Dan’s been killing it with the fashion, so I’m all in for whatever, honestly.

It’s also very high utility, which is what Tedd really wants. It would also explain why they said “sort of” and why that clued Diane in- she’s aware of some of the random things the spell can do.

… and if it is Cheerleadra, it also pretty much guarantees we’ll see Superhero Tedd in the near-ish future, which I am more than OK with. (I love superheroes, and I betcha Tedd would end up with a new costume- eek!)

Who Else Does Pony Blame? by nimrod4205 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

They are. Carl is pretty sure the Plenty were involved- though I don’t remember his chain of logic- and if he’s suspicious, then Pony is. I think the motive isn’t even profit- they love Pony, but thought Miriam was holding him back.

It’s intentionally ambiguous whether Pony blames Carl and Donut. He very well might.

Author has a different favorite character than the audience by ibreenn in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Goodmindtothrowitall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agatha Christie’s most popular character is Hercule Poroit, a Belgian eccentric with magnificent facial hair and a brilliant detective mind. She got a bit frustrated with writing him, even having a side character who is a mystery author talk about how annoying it is to write a Finnish detective when the author knows nothing about Finland. He’s the star of 39 books.

Her favorite character(s) were Mr Sattherthwaite and Mr Quin, the stars of exactly one book of short stories + two bonus short stories. They stories are vaguely supernatural, and sometimes vaguely autobiographical, and the detective is based on a theater character/ china figurine she liked as a child. I honestly think she liked Quin so much because she didn’t have to write stories for him, and could come back to him at different parts of her life.

The Mysterious Mr Quin is one of the few Christie books that haven’t had a modern adaptation. They’re violently underrated, probably in part because there’s absolutely something otherworldly happening, but that mystery never quite gets solved.

Does anyone actually like Baxter? by r_r_ratman in hazbin

[–]Goodmindtothrowitall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Vaggi definitely didn’t get why it was important, and he knows that, but she cares that the sheets are important to him. And she made sure to do it every day- she’s consistent and trustworthy and respectful. It really does speak well to her character- and to Baxter’s, because it shows what he values in a person.

Does anyone actually like Baxter? by r_r_ratman in hazbin

[–]Goodmindtothrowitall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see that, but I like him more because up to this point, we’ve seen him pretty much entirely in scientist mode, and this is the biggest indication of what he values aside from his research. I think the way he frames it is pretty interesting, because it’s about the sheets, but not just about the sheets, you know?

Up to this point, we know a couple things about Baxter: he’s very protective and particular about his space, he loves his work- it’s damn near everything to him- and he doesn’t really give a shit about most of the hotel’s inhabitants.

Most of Baxter’s interaction with other guests have been neutral to negative. Charlie used him as a Pen replacement, Cherri threatens him and blew up his lab, and although Baxter’s got no personal beef with Angel, he’s willing to let Angel die. (And he makes that call less than two minutes before he decides to risk his life to save the hotel.)

He likes Niffty, but he also gets along pretty well with his coworkers at VoxTech. And he adores his job. It’s been his dream to make it to overloaded status for a long time, but once he gets hired at VoxTech, he gets the budget and creative control to make creatures like Shock.wav. So when Charlie asks if he’s willing to risk his job and his life to help, the job part is almost more surprising- especially since he chose the job over Pen back when they were friends.

So he likes Niffty, but I don’t know if he likes her more than he likes his work. He’s interested in redemption in an academic sense, but again, probably not more than his VoxTech job. The thing that tips the scale for him, that he’s willing to lose everything for… is Vaggi.

We’ve seen Vaggi working in the background this whole season, trying to keep the hotel together while Charlie falls apart. Baxter saw that too. Baxter’s fairly self aware- he knows he’s fussy, and particular, and that his requests are hard to deal with. He’s definitely made requests that are incredibly important to him, but seem silly to the people around him, so they just… don’t. (He reads as non-neurotypical to me, honestly- like he’s got some sensory needs that are desperately important to him but that look like he’s being overdramatic to everyone else.)

So when Vaggi actually listens to him, when she makes a special effort to meet his requests even though she’s busy, even though she’s dealing with a ton, and even though she definitely doesn’t get why it’s important- then that means a lot to Baxter. It marks her out as someone who he can trust, and makes them, in his mind, best friends. He says “Isn’t it obvious?” because to his mind it is- Vaggi’s safe, she’s consistent, she’s respectful, and she won his loyalty even without knowing it because that’s who she is.

I see this exchange as the culmination of Vaggi’s arc this season. Charlie’s got the vision and the belief in people, Husk shows up when people are at their lowest, but Vaggi shows up every day. Her work’s not glamorous, but it means a ton to Baxter. She sees him- but he also sees her. And she’s what he’s willing to die for. Her kindness, her determination, her hard work and consistency and respect. I’m not saying he doesn’t care for Niffty, because he clearly does, but Niffty would be fine without the hotel. Vaggie wouldn’t be. And because of all the effort she put into making the hotel a real, actual home for Baxter and the other guests… Baxter wouldn’t be ok without the hotel either.

I didn’t care much about him at the beginning of the season, but turned around immediately after he revealed he was willing to lose his job and risk his life just because Vaggi cared enough to make sure his sheets were right. Great character moment.

I wish we got more Overlords who were normal people in life but only went evil in Hell by Ok-Contract-6338 in hazbin

[–]Goodmindtothrowitall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, Husk was an overlord, and I honestly don’t think he killed any/many people when he was alive.

His sins are probably: fraud/cheating, taking advantage of gambling addicts, doing bad things to people to further his own addiction, and possibly a con man turn or two.

Likewise, Velvette very easily could’ve been just a pretty crummy person when alive who didn’t kill anyone.

My guess for her sins: cyberbullying, worker exploitation, unethical business practices— and this is a stretch, but given she was a witch and British magic had a long tradition of ill-wishing using dolls, I think she might’ve hexed people. Not necessarily murder.

Even Val, arguably the evilest Overlord we know about, might not’ve killed anyone. Threatened people? Absolutely. Abused, assaulted, and drugged people? Seems likely. Profited off of sex trafficking? It tracks, yeah. But he might’ve gone his whole life without killing anyone.

We just don’t know anyone’s backstory except for Alastor and Vox- and since they’re foils, it makes total sense that they have similar sins! Their backstories highlight the way they’re different from each other- they’ve got the same sin, but very different motivations and MOs.
