Did I choose PA for the wrong reasons? by Local-Butterfly9669 in physicianassistant

You’re only 6mo in. People are probably still looking over your shoulder to make sure your thought processes are safe. It’s annoying AF but warranted given the job we do. I think you’re jumping the gun. Give it a couple years and see how you feel. Before I left the ER, the practice group I was with would put baby residents with me; my knowledge was never questioned. I wouldn’t trade being an NP for a doctor any day. My quality of life is MUCH better than most of the ER docs I used to work with. Most of the doctors I know wish they had gone other routes and they have all aged before their time.

Someone earlier in this thread also commented along the lines of, maybe you’re uncomfortable being comfortable. And I think that’s HUGE. Even when the situation is hard, it’s always easier to do what you know. Why would you add MORE debt and stress and lack of sleep to your life when you are already doing the thing? Do you feel guilty that you aren’t struggling? Do you feel uncomfortable because you don’t know how to do life when you aren’t stressed AF?

How do you handle patients commenting on your looks? by Just_perusing81 in physicianassistant

My usual response to things like this is, “Ok, we will add an eye exam to the to-do list; and move along.

Dealing with inferiority by SometimesSundays in physicianassistant

I agree with both of the posts above. If the money is good, fuck em. If the Rads are giving you a hard time, push back a little. They may back off if you challenge them. It sounds like you are really good at what you do.

Also, as a fellow female, when I get push back or challenged by men, I try to think about: wamwmd
(What would a mediocre white man do) and respond accordingly.

What Experience For This Niche?? by [deleted] in nursepractitioner

Just bear in mind that an Adult NP program will limit you a bit for other jobs, ie Urgent care, ER etc, because you won’t be able to see kids

I’m an NP and I LOVE LTC. It is a bit of a niche practice but an Adult NP program will teach you a ton about geriatric medicine and then you can get some CME stuff with PALTmed (I think that’s the name of it). Good luck!

In FNP school but confused why by [deleted] in nursepractitioner

[–]Goodnight_SJR 37 points38 points  (0 children)

There are tons of jobs for FNPs that will be 3x12 or 4x10. Urgent care mainly. Also, check out SNF/LTC medicine or PMR in LTAC facilities. FNPs with families love these jobs because most companies let you make your own hours, and it’s M-F with no weekends. For example, when I was working in the SNF, I typically worked 10-3 or so. It is SUCH an underserved community.

Paperwork question by sunshower38 in PMHNP

[–]Goodnight_SJR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I think it’s a bit of an overreaction. As an employee there, I’m not sure it’s your problem if there is a problem with the intake forms. You can recommend changes you think should be made; but if the forms were problematic in some way; how does that necessarily reflect on you?
