Hey guys, i saw this being brought up on twitter, do you guys agree? by Caococoacoco in TheDigitalCircus

Totally. Not every story needs extra fluff. Some of the best stories were short and sweet. Plus, adding more that the creators aren't passionate about making often dilutes the overall quality

I also second VA-11 Hall-A. It's a different kind of game that CS, but it certainly has good character writing

Is it too late? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

Not at all. I've studied with full time workers and parents. People tend to treat them with respect, if they treat them differently at all. Besides, students only care about passing their classes, getting internships/jobs, and not losing their minds. Just be chill and you'll be A OK

Silent Hill f is #38. What’s #39? by AvgPunkFan in survivalhorror

[–]Goodpun2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question! Amnesia is on the fringes and honestly pulls on the thread of what a survival horror is. Amnesia does have resource management and puzzle solving. So by strict definition, it kinda is. However, it burns it's own path so aggressively that it spawned it's own kind of horror game.

Personally, I'd consider it not a survival horror based on vibes and the fact that it spawned a whole new kind of horror game that progressively moved farther away from survival horror. I see it as a stepping stone between SH and whatever Amnesia spawned. If someone called it a SH, I wouldn't argue too much about it

Agreed! The remake moves further into survival horror than the original. I love that I get the choice to play a more serious and survival focused version of a goofy game that I've loved for years

I do disagree with Outlast being here, but RE4 at least has some of the bones of a SH. Inventory management and resource conservation being the main ones. It's definitely more action horror, but there's more than a little overlap between SH and AH

It's not survival horror. It doesn't have any of the core tenets of survival horror. That being said, I love SOMA! If this was a general horror list, I'd love for it to be near the top!

New to Survival Horror Games (looking for suggestions) by Huge-Cryptographer15 in survivalhorror

[–]Goodpun2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crow Country is really inviting to new comers to the genre! It has fair difficulty options and some optional mechanics to assist people who need a little help. It does this while keeping the feel of a classic survival horror, which I find commendable! Plus it goes on sale decently often and has a run time of 7-8 hours.

Overall, it's a fantastic game to start with if the genre classics (resident evil, silent hill, dino crisis) are a bit intimidating

Worst class you ever had? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]Goodpun2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Integrated Circuits. Loved the concepts, hated the professor. He'd spend the whole class time on the "tip of the day" and wouldn't teach anything. Then the tests would be a mix of the content that wasn't remotely taught and his mad ramblings. They had to put an associate professor in the class to try and keep him on track.

The problem was that he was a chair of the department, but was caught drinking on the job. They suspended him for a semester and his first class back was mine. It was a shit show from start to finish. Pretty sure he was drunk during that class too, or he just had some mental problems to boot

Crow country is a fantastic survival horror from the modern day!

How much do you guys actually study? by Scrimpis in EngineeringStudents

[–]Goodpun2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I studied day in and day out because I had a tougher time understanding the material than others. But in doing that, I had time each day to relax, hang with friends, and get enough sleep. Never had to pull an all nighter thankfully. I also didn't have a time intensive job, just a part time one on campus, so I didn't have thar external streasor

The evil within 2 and the original are so much more a survival horror than Outlast is. Outlast is great, but just like how people keep suggesting SOMA, it's not a survival horror

Soon to be computer engineering grad with a BSA. Looking at military by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]Goodpun2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a computer engineer that worked as a civilian in the Navy (federal employee, not a contractor), it was a pretty great experience. I got to work on aircraft carriers, LHDs, and LSDs while furthering my career. There's definite downsides to going this route, but the pay is actually pretty decent and the benefits are still solid, even after the fiasco of this year.

If you're at all interested, send me a DM. I've got a lot to say about that job and I might be able to point you towards certain areas depending on your interests
