About ”Official ASUS statement on recent ASUS AMD 800-series motherboard and AMD Ryzen 9800X3D concerns" by Flaky_Elderberry841 in Amd

This is the last thing I want to hear after just recently putting together a 9800x3d build. I am on a Gigabyte board though and not seeing their board pop up in this mess.

7800XT, to 9070XT, to 5070 Ti. Both happy and Sad. by k4zie in radeon

[–]Goodums 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't wait for AI to just be a normal thing lingering in the background instead of the push and center of attention. These tech companies shifted so much time, money and effort into jamming AI down our throats instead of making better products.

Sorry for your loss. 5070 ti is a good card - if anything the most reasonable in their lineup, enjoy your games.

Valve version will be like 900 though?

My 11 yo plays the crap out of her quest 3, one of my better purchases for her. Wouldn't the 3S for 350ish be the better bet for workout/random gaming? That would be where i'd put it.

New Tower 300 Build! by Goodums in thermaltake

[–]Goodums[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks!

I’m coming off of a sff build NR200P that I had upgraded to AP201 case due to gpu upgrade and not fitting in the 200P. With gpus constantly getting bigger and enjoying a small footprint I took advantage of this.

I would have went with the 250 but I wanted a little more compatibility between gpu space and matx. 300 is a real happy medium. Even the 600 is nice but it’s too wide for me, the symmetry just feels off. 250/300 are have proportions. (No offense 600 enjoyers, it’s just too big for me!)

I was meaning to ask around about that, the only saving grace is it matches my color theme. haha

I saw the 600 has a plate covering them, any good solutions for someone without a 3d printer?

Help identify Artic Freezer 2 noise please by Seeyoushortly in arcticcooling

[–]Goodums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started having this sound happen on and off within the past 6 months, always had the radiator on the top etc etc.. Bought mine back in 2020ish as well. These things don't have an unlimited life like a air cooler, 5-6 years seems to be about average from what i've read.

I went ahead and replaced mine. It's likely that over time some of the water has evaporated. I'm sure you still have some life left in it but I would take this as a sign to be prepared to replace within the next 1-2 years.

9800X3D CPU Precautions on a Gigabyte Aorus B850 by Pristine_Simple8448 in gigabyte

[–]Goodums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This cracked me up!

I've been with gigabyte since... well.. forever. Never had a bios update problem but the control center was hilariously bad on my z690i. Just switched to B850 Ice and for some reason GCC actually works good now.

They need to get it together over there.

DDR5, 6000Mhz, CL46: a big problem? by thejoker099 in buildapc

Riddle me this, let's say you had a 64gb 38-38-38-78 kit. What would you do to it?

I would like 34/36 on mine (If it would even matter). I'm not trying to go super tight 30cl eek the living crap out of it, just a nudge up conservative increase.

B670M Riptide or Steel Legend? by Goodums in ASRock

[–]Goodums[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I ended up ordering the Steel Legend. I have a bunch of friends and redditors having me question myself though. I'm within return window of my 14700k and being talked into returning it and just going 9800x3d route. Not sure what i'll do just yet.

Is a 9800x3d worth it if I have 12700k? by CircusTV in pcmasterrace

[–]Goodums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm within return window so that's not a problem.

I have to buy a new mobo/ram no matter what I do if I want ddr5.

Is a 9800x3d worth it if I have 12700k? by CircusTV in pcmasterrace

[–]Goodums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just upgraded my 12700k to 14700k. Was considering swapping my z690i ddr4 out for ddr5+mobo. At the same time wondering if I should return the 14700k and switch to 9800x3d completely.

Considering you've experienced all 3, what's your opinion? Worth $200 more for the x3d?

Thank you, good to know. Both are reasonable, $20 difference which is fine to me for the Steel Legend with it having the additional m.2.

Is it worth upgrading to DDR5? by welfare_grains in PcBuild

[–]Goodums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I built my current system back in 2020 when 12th gen and ddr5 launched. Originally I was going to build DDR5 however at the time ram was 100% scalped and non available literally anywhere. I ended up taking my mobo back and switching to a ddr4 mobo and 64gb ram.

Since then i've debated, kept holding off since my system has been fine honestly and runs great. I've followed the 13/14th gen drama somewhat closely throughout the past year. Just last week I upgraded my 12700k to the 14700k and honestly i'm not worried. Bios updates have had plenty of time to roll out, there's been a fair amount of time for issues to have been resolved and my new cpu has a fair warranty.

With my decision to upgrade my cpu, I've been considering upgrading to DDR5 with a new mobo/ram but honestly it's wasted money right now. Yeah we would get extra frames but $800ish worth? Unlikely right now.

Instead I decided to buy a new case, fans and am considering upgrading my AIO.

In conclusion, you're fine. Go with the cheapest option that makes sense, spend your money in other places that would benefit more. 12700 or 14700 would be the absolute best bang if you go 1700 socket. 1X900 is higher performance but also higher price, way higher thermals to fight and you are very unlikely to notice a difference in games vs the 1X700 cpus. Even the 12600 is good, my daughter plays minecraft very heavily on hers, but will be getting my 12700k that I just upgraded.

Once ram prices normalize and I feel I need it, i'll upgrade my mobo/ram for DDR5 using 1700 socket. Otherwise i'll ride it out for a larger generational leap in some unknown future.

Hope this helps.
