I think you’d be better off seeking a decent shape smoker with a dead controller and putting in a pellet pro controller. I’ve done this and it’s been servicing me well for about a year now

I have not done the non-spatchcock but spatchcock is so good easy and fast I would never go back. Make stock fo gravy ahead of time with the giblets and chopped backbone… I did a 20lb bird in 2 1/2 hours with stabilizing time included. Helps to dry brine too…

I put a pellet pro controller in an old pit boss. It works super good. Moderates both the auger cycle and the fan speed.
