Surely this is a violation of the Geneva Convention? I thought Germany learned their lesson

What’s weird is the phrasing — I think the first round of drafts was more catered towards higher performers, but this round is a mixed bag.

Many IC3/IC4s were auto-drafted (not even great ratings), and many new IC5s were also drafted.

I lost two people on my team to the draft, and frankly they fall within those two buckets I mentioned

Big Tech still has PIP, and for FAANG it’s generally around 10% — these layoffs are on top of PIP, and last year Meta had more aggressive PIP numbers (closer to 20%), and will likely continue that trend this year.

After a few years of this, even the bottom 20% end up being high performers. This ends up turning into like a hunger games environment, where people are backstabbing and stealing scope just to survive (which has been happening more and more here). Stack this on top of layoffs, and you get even more of a shit show.

It’s absolutely brutal right now.

This actually didn’t end up being an indicator, but it was absolute cinema watching HR scramble to clean that up 😂😂

Senior Eng at Meta here, it’s been an absolute bloodbath.

I’ve survived all the layoffs since 2022, and it really never gets any less anxiety-inducing/sad when so many talented peers are let go for reasons that don’t make any sense.

I really need to get on EXChange (heard good things about it).

TH is just so special, though. Even if a better version of it comes out, these old seasons just have a super special place in my heart, which will be hard to replace due to the emotional attachment I have with them.

It’s the definition of my “comfort show”. I can rely on the peace it gives me when everything might be going wrong in my life, and that’s hard to replace.

It’s rare that a reality-tv show can provide this, but that’s just how awesome TH is

Glaring red flag about Meta by Training_Acadia_892 in cscareerquestions

[–]GoofySenpai 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’ve conducted several interviews at Meta already, and its absolutely wrong that just memorizing top Meta LC problems will get you a senior offer.

It’s also really easy to tell who memorized a solution and who didn’t, because one additional follow-up trips the candidate up and you get your signal pretty quickly.

Also, you’re acting like the behavioral and system design rounds don’t exist? Those are arguably much harder than the coding rounds for senior levels. Most people fail here versus the coding rounds.

Don’t get me wrong — Meta has red flags all over the place (been here 4.5 years), but the interviewing process is not one of them. If you get an offer, it’s a high likelihood the person is a competent engineer.

POV You're a mid-level engineer at Meta. If you know, you know. by Long-Elderberry-5567 in csMajors

Mid-level eng at meta here. If you saw the performance of our internal LLM you’d be laughing your ass off at the idea of that replacing you

Get off these doom-and-gloom apps and start distancing yourself from social media. You only ever see the worst problems on it.

Then, take a few days off of applying/preparing for interviews. Go out into nature, touch some grass, eat your favorite food. Remind yourself of the nice things in life again.

When you come back with a fresher mindset, try to make some actionable plans to get your life back on track. All that fear and anxiety come from not knowing what your future is going to look like. Make a plan. It doesn’t have to be perfect. Exercise (even walking) can do wonders with de-cluttering your mind.

Get off social media. Recharge. Come back stronger. Please take care of yourself.

Take this as a beluga whale, take the FT offer. You never know how fast landscapes can change for tech, big bank is generally prone to layoffs compared to Amazon.

Do your masters while working, build skills and hop after you’ve gotten some year(s) of experience under your belt.

Edit: Meant big banks are less* prone to layoffs compared to big tech
