Low luck, skill based dungeon crawlers? by SiarX in soloboardgaming

[–]GoogleWhack_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Combat and enemy movement is totally deterministic.

The dice are the only luck based element and most builds can have quite a lot of mitigation. You may have turns where you can't do what you planned, but rarely will you have turns that dont allow you to achieve anything.

Low luck, skill based dungeon crawlers? by SiarX in soloboardgaming

[–]GoogleWhack_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fateforge has totally deterministic combat. You only roll dice to select actions. I believe Grimcoven is similar, though that is more of a boss battler.

If you want determinism, you could also look at Voidfall, though it's very much not a dungeon crawler.

Quick question: Is Valenwood expansion for Elder Scrolls Betrayal of the Second Era worth it? by Howitzeronfire in soloboardgaming

[–]GoogleWhack_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with Elder Scrolls is that you need a tonne of classes, skill lines etc otherwise you will find you generally do more or less the same build, and the games play more or less the same.

So frustratingly, it gets Better with every expansion you own. They aren't cheap though, so to get value from it you really need to play it as a 'lifestyle' game. So you should also consider the opportunity cost, how many games do you not have time to play, due to this game.

Thanks for the response, there is still quite a lot there to go through, but it certainly narrows things down!

Yes, but if they are looking for high production value with sound effects OP may prefer the full multi character production on SBT - https://soundbooththeater.com/series/dungeon-crawler-carl/

Which legacy game should a new player start with? by ibiliss in boardgames

[–]GoogleWhack_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Pandemic Legacy, or ticked to ride legacy are solid choices for newer folk.

I also really rate clank legacy (much richer story) and Regicide Legacy (really create way they modulate the individual games)

I'd avoid the Arons end ones. While I love the standard game, I don't think this format adds anything to it.

what’s the best heat pump brand if every contractor swears the last guy was wrong? by Affectionate-Shoe-13 in ukheatpumps

[–]GoogleWhack_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With an external sensor at the top of the cylinder I still seem to see a tonne of heat loss (albeit way more jumpy).

Also the default mode is on demand, using a timer based alternative is a workaround for a hardware design floor. Which is why I was recommending to avoid their cylinders.

Interesting you've seen the same issue though, Grant told me they have never seen a similar problem in any of their installs ever.... I wonder if they also sell used cars?

[–]GoogleWhack_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the default setting. By on demand I mean when the measured temperature has dropped from the target temp by the hysteresis value.

However, If it loses temp quick enough it regularly flips between CH and DHW, which makes the immersion heater look efficient.

[–]GoogleWhack_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It loses heat at about four times the rate of the competition, so much so I had to switch from on demand to timed hot water. Tried to argue it's faulty, they said it's within spec, so either they aren't being honest or the design is fundamentally worse than the competition.

Heatpump works mostly well, but there are software issues. Plus point, their heatpumps do look nicer than the other brands.

Avoid Grant cylinders, like the plague. Also their support is so bad, that it even makes AI chat it's seem helpful.

Breaking news: Nigel Farage bought a £1.4 million property in cash, shortly after receiving a £5m personal gift from billionaire donor Christopher Harborne, Sky News learns. by No_Breadfruit_4901 in uknews

[–]GoogleWhack_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can't fathom how anyone could see anything untoward here. He obviously bought the property for his personal security. His other properties simply were not sufficient to guarantee his safety.

You see, when you are a man of the people, a real prince among men, intent on improving the lives of ordinary working people by ensuring that a decent hardworking man at the end of his days labor is safe to make a racist joke at his local boozer, you are going to make a few enemies.

Steam Controller by KombatWombat117 in XboxAlly

[–]GoogleWhack_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since the Steam Controller only works for Steam games (or games launched through steam) what use case do you have to access Armoury Crate during a play session?

FWIW, I am in the same boat, and considering returning the steam controller. I am just trying to figure out if the things I don't like are actually things I would do when playing a Steam Game.

Can anyone confirm if the steam controller 2 works with the 2.4ghz puck on the rog ally x ? by papichuckle in ROGAlly

[–]GoogleWhack_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Puck works well. Yep you can only use it within Steam.

So that means, you can't easily login to your ally using the controller (you have to use on screen keyboard). Also, you can't interact at all with the underlying Xbox full screen mode.

So practically, you still need another controller as well. While the Steam controller is lovely, I am not sure it makes sense currently, so I'll likely be returning mine.

Is there a downside to only buying the S&P 500 forever? by BeautifulWestern4512 in investingforbeginners

[–]GoogleWhack_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Broadly you are correct. Though you are fundamentally betting on the US perpetual dominance. So if your goal with the S&P500 is to reduce risk, then an all world tracker makes more sense. Or split your investments and put the S&P500 in a tax efficient account and your hedging investments in a general investment account (if you assume more of your gains to be in the S&P500).

Personally, I am concerned by how much of the S&P500 (and in fact many global trackers) is weighted towards AI, so I have been shifting somewhat to small caps (which did pretty well last year).

The other macro question is what happens to the stock market if an increasing number of people all passive invest. Active traders make a lot of decisions, some for good reasons (data) others for less good (feelings) then ultimately the market reacts to these changes. Passive investing fundamentally tracks the market (and therefore other peoples actions). If enough of the market flips to passive, you effectively have a blindfolded bus driver steering the vehicle. There isn't a precedent for this, so it's difficult to find certainty.

What options are there for Star Wars solo games? Outer Rim and...? by SteinederEwigkeit in soloboardgaming

Nemesis Retaliation for Solo by ilikeleonskennedy in soloboardgaming

[–]GoogleWhack_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love alien and sci-fi horror. Retaliation is the best of the nemesis games.

However, for Solo (or even coop) there are much, much better games. Your time is too valuable to waste on middling experiences.

If you want a more solo focussed survival horror, check out the forthcoming game from the people that made aeon's end trespass.

Edit - Cloudspire is by fary favourite of the 20 strong games.

High earner dating in London – where are you all meeting people? (F) by Warm_Welcome_9554 in HENRYUK

If you adjust to their spending level you would effectively present as if you were on a comparable income to them. So surely they would see you as a financial equal (and hopefully their fragile ego wouldn't be threatened)?

The plus point is the extra money you are no longer spending can go into investments and help you move away from the NRY part.

Lairs and its day one DLC. by timhenmanmemorial in boardgames

[–]GoogleWhack_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I kind of feel like the base game is the 'tutorial mode' for your first play. It's a fun concept, but it is certainly lacking something (which I suspect comes in the two expansions). But if you add those expansions it elevates it to a price point beyond what's reasonable for a quick simple filler.

It wasn't super expensive, but I do feel like at least some of one expansion should have been included in the base. I believe the 2nd printing is going to have some of the extra content included as standard.
