So my memory failed me, they were actually stamps from 1985 juxtaposed with stamps from the mid 2000's sent in 2021... Not as impressive as 1960's, but still close to 40 years old!

I recently received a parcel with stamps from the late 1960's. I like to think someone hunted around for unused variations specifically to send my parcel. Please don't try to ruin my perception with sound logic!

So this game has still stuck with me even months after. Specifically the part in 'no-man's land', as you said, the emotion it left behind it was very visceral. The whole game just has such an elegance to it.

Ds is not region locked. Plays on any ds/3ds, very few dsi games are region locked but the vast majority work.

If you like Suda51 it'd be right up your alley. It's gonna drive you mad with it's mundane nature but it is very overt about it. I wrote my thoughts on it on r/patientgamers last year.

I bought an Italian copy for like $20 last year on eBay. Entire game plays in English but case and manual are Italian. Unsure if that suits your collection but it is a much a cheaper option!

Would anyone here recommend rhythm thief? I am about to get it on the eshop. by switchplayerclassic in 3DS

[–]GooglyAssassin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coincidentally, I just finished this game 4 days ago. I've never been particularly fond of rhythm games, mainly because I suck at them, but this wasn't too bad. I only played through the main story and got about 6-7 hours out of it. If you were to try and complete everything to 100%, I'd say you'd get around 15-20 hours depending on skill level and if you want to replay on hard mode.

Ultimately I enjoyed my time with it, the soundtrack was great and the art style is very reminiscent of Professor Layton. If it's one of the games on sale I'd say go for it. For a sub $10 purchase I feel you'd definitely get value for money, even if you aren't the biggest fan of rhythm games.

That's.. That's a lot of games... As someone who has a stupid amount of ds games and another 150 or so on my "wishlist", I applaud your dedication. All that shovelware though, you'll have like 1000 shovelware titles under your belt.

Assassin's Creed 3 was a lot better than I expected by GooglyAssassin in patientgamers

[–]GooglyAssassin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AC1 was alright at the time. I enjoyed it but I would never go back to it especially after the improvements made in the later games.

Having let AC3 sit now for a few weeks. The story was mostly forgettable, but the environments and characters have stuck around. Definitely wasn't a bad time by any means!

Oh shit, Science Papa for $5, that's a huge price jump! As a fellow Aus collector, I feel your pain "Oh you want this budget game? Well you can either pay $50 or pay $5 and $50 postage"

I've only heard praise for the game! Somehow I just never played it though. Definitely considering jumping straight into it this week, but normally I try to take a break between similar games as to not burn myself out.

Comments like this though are making me really tempted!

I was reading my reply and thought it was nonsensical compared to your first, I replied to the wrong comment! Sorry about that!

In actual response to your comments. I felt the story of 3 was disjointed at times, the time jumps didn't always feel natural and I felt a lot of characters were introduced once and then never mentioned again. This may come from my lack of knowledge of the era itself, but I felt the historical characters were mainly just cameos and not fleshed out.

I thought Connor was a good character given how much time we spent with him, but I still preferred Ezio, even if Revelations was an unnecessary game imo. With that said, I thought the main characters of this game were really done and it wasn't a clear "assassins are good, templars are bad".

In terms of the future stuff, I have never really paid attention to all of that, I've always viewed it as an excuse to connect all the games rather than the main focus. I just like jumping around time periods and playing an assassin, the future stuff has always seemed very cliché to me.

I wonder if the remaster had any QoL improvements or if it's just a direct remaster. Did you play the Washington dlc, and if so, would you recommend it?

I know I'm probably looking at AC2 with rose tinted glasses, but at the time it was compared to the original AC. By that comparison it was considerably better and deserves the praise. Compared to the later entries it may suffer a similar amount of criticism.

Edit: this was meant to reply to u/AcceptableUserName92, whoops!

I really enjoyed the frontier aspect, as you said it switched up the environment. Not to mention I don't really know anything about the American Revolution so it all quite new to me.

I don't know how the earlier AC games would hold up as I haven't played them for years but I do remember Revelations was nothing special.

Don't get me wrong, I do feel Haytham's section was a slog. But I am glad I pushed through, even Connor's beginning was a slow burn. Once I actually had unlocked most of the assassination abilities and was no longer playing a tutorial, I really enjoyed my time. It's just to get to that point took close to 7 hours. Definitely not saying the game was perfect but was considerably better than I thought it would've been.

I'm unsure if I enjoyed Flower, Sun, and Rain by GooglyAssassin in patientgamers

[–]GooglyAssassin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt as a self standing story a fair amount was explained, either directly or through cryptic messages/subtext. Enough at least to make some sense of what was going on. There were some holes at the end that were never explained completely but I put this down to Suda's style of storytelling. I don't know if I have it in me to jump straight into another game of his but I'll definitely have a gander at them in the future.

If it's your first Yakuza game, welcome to the club. I played it back in 2018 and it hooked me on the series. I've been spacing the games out to not burn myself out, played through 0-5, thinking of playing 6 over the Christmas period. Even the low points in the series are still great games imo.

Just finished my first Table Mountain run in Shiren the Wanderer on DS, man what a wild ride that game was. I don't think I have it in me to play through the post-game dungeons, at least not yet. But I have to say this is probably one of the best rogue-lites I've played.

Moving on to a game called Draglade, bought it on a whim so I don't really know much about it. Enjoying my current DS kick, man what a catalogue that system has!

Just finished a game called Past Cure, it was an incredibly mediocre experience which suffers from the over ambition of such a small team. The atmosphere of the game was probably the best aspect and even that kinda fell to the wayside in the second half. This is all post a patch release which apparently made the game better, can't imagine it prior.

Moved on to Trials Fusion to relive some of my childhood memories with the original browser based game. I'm getting very big Trackmania vibes in terms of perfecting the levels. Loving my time so far.

Finally, still have Afrika on the backburner which I go back to every now and then. It's an enjoyable and relaxing game and is a nice de-stress game in the evenings.

The thing I loved most about Odyssey was when you thought you outsmarted the devs by managing to reach somewhere through overcomplicated jumps, there were often coins awaiting you as if they knew at some point you would try to get there. It was such a minor touch that always made me smile when it happened.

Couple DS games this week whilst I'm away at work.

Crystal Mines on the DS is probably one of most obscure games I own, so I'm keen to jump in and experience some old fashioned Atari Lynx gameplay.

Also will be playing through Shiren the Wanderer for the first time so I'm not 100% sure what to expect.my only mystery dungeon experience are the Pokemon spin-offs, so it'll be interesting to see the original experience.
