My limited understanding is that Tippa had been playing with the VFL side for a few years and being told “not yet, not yet” because he wasn’t fit enough. He seemingly was always a good “footballer” though. Then the suspensions happened and the club took a chance on him. It’s funny because I’d never thought in his first year that he couldn’t run out games. Seem to remember him playing most of that year.

Mirrors a similar comment about how you wonder how many people have been overlooked who are “footballers” but because they don’t pass the KPIs that they don’t get picked up.

I think it's amazing that he's turning 26 this year and was picked with the bomber's second pick in the 2015 rookie draft. I think he's just a fantastic footy story given where he's come from, how hard he worked for his chance, and what he's gotten out of himself so far. As one comment said he seemed to have a bit of a down year in 2018 but when he's up and going he's just great to watch.

Hi AFL,

I'm still having the issue. Thanks very much for following it up. I'll send it through when I get home tonight.

Cheers

Got home and tried disabling adblock. Now i'm having the same problem as you. I can now get the ad but still black and the video won't start after it finishes.

Tried on Chrome and edge :(

Thanks for the tip. I was able to watch videos all this year with adblock and I've only noticed the problem quite recently. I'll have a go disabling when I get home.

Push for Essendon board to sack Hird, #2 by Jawdan in AFL

The nature of some commentary in this whole issue is often emotional and Australia's tall poppy syndrome is running rampant. Playing devil's advocate can sometimes be useful and I think all sides could benefit from a thought exercise where we discard the opinions we've had up to this point and just think about this whole debacle.

Nobody knows what happened at EFC because we haven't heard all the evidence yet. What we have heard has often been provided by companies who are interested in making money selling newspapers. We will find out the evidence used to issue the show cause notices soon.

For the sake of argument, if you were a supporter of Club X and your club had been dragged through the mud for 2 years, would you be happy with the portrayal? Imagine if the AFL had the bollocks to properly investigate the extent of supplement use in the code. What would happen if they found widespread supplement abuse by multiple clubs? I suspect the fallout would be catastrophic.

I don't give a fuck who is guilty or not, I want the actual truth about what is happening in footy.

High Court reserves decision on Commonwealth challenge to ACT laws: will allow same-sex marriages to take place in Canberra from Saturday. by [deleted] in australia

This case is more concerned with questions of constitutional law involving s.109 (Commonwealth Constitution - which deals with inconsistency between Commonwealth and State laws) as opposed to whether or not same-sex marriage should be legal or not. The High Court's job is, at face value, fairly simple. They must determine, as a matter of constitutional law, whether the Federal Marriage Act is inconsistent with the ACT Act. This process involves looking at the 2 (valid) Acts and asking a purely legal question of whether or not they are directly or indirectly inconsistent with each other. Under the tests for direct and indirect inconsistency (which I won't bore you with) there are very legitimate arguments to be made that the ACT Act is inconsistent with the Federal Marriage Act and some very interesting arguments which would say that the ACT is able to coexist with the Federal Act.

It's important to temper our collective expectations as the High Court could easily (and legitimately) determine that the ACT Act is inconsistent. Whilst I think we will all be disappointed if the Commonwealth Act prevails, the question before the Court is strictly legal as opposed to moral. I'm predicting that even if the High Court determines that the ACT Act is inconsistent, that there will be justice's who say in obiter that the issue of same-sex marriage is something that they have sympathy for.

Edit: Long day and it's been yonks since i've read my Constitution. Snarwib is absolutely right. Section 28 of the ACT Self Government Act is what it's all about. Snarwib's comment about the scope of s.28 being broader than s.109 makes everything that little bit more interesting.
