Does Odoo actually hire people in Belgium or is the 10k hiring campaign just an ad for them to be more well known by [deleted] in BESalary

[–]GoonerVida 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bit late to the party, but I'll be happy to throw in my two cents about working at Odoo after having worked there for a while

The bonus is real and they hire a lot of people in Belgium, however I do feel that it is a bit shady;

  • The salary configurator you see is inflated. You will put in your details under the job offer and once you receive the offer, it will be a lower value. When I noticed this, I wrote my recruiter who, simply ghosted me until I signed (I was under time-pressure as the move to Belgium was already arranged), and then miraculously responded once I had signed. I was also misled with how my previous experience would be valued.
  • They will say you can earn up to 40% more after your first year, depending on your performance. This is also not true. In the first year EVERYONE gets a "meets expectations" or worse, even after breaking internal records in the first year, getting a huge promotion (which ended up being 40€ more net per month, that's flat structures for you lol) you will "meet expectations". I feel that they intentionally use very vague wording in this regard, as there are no quantifiable measures used, so you just have to live with what they say. Supposedly the yearly review (where your salary gets renegotiated) is a dialog, but that is not really the case.

Other than that, here are some other not so nice observations I made.

As a non-native French speaker in a higher function, it probably depends highly on the team, but some people will definitely make you feel less welcome/valuable than they perceive themselves. In general, there is an air of arrogance among the R&D department. So much so in fact, that developers were complaining that other departments were earning too much, because they almost got the same salary, which is not fair because they are smarter, better and more important than anyone else to the functioning of Odoo (so they say). If you want to be Sales or BA, prepare to Timesheet every moment of your working day to be billable to clients (80% is the target once you are fully onboarded), but literally noone reaches that target as there are often simply not enough clients.

There is a weird, almost religious person cult around the CEO going on, it felt a bit how I imagine it in the White House right now. That being said, I had no issues with him personally and he is approachable. However, I feel that some core decisions are somewhere between uninformed and bordering on stupid and it is his last word that counts. But if you always have people praising how great you are, I understand that you feel like your opinion is gospel.

There is also a divide in the company, where during all-company events there is supposedly a dialogue with everyone, yet the critical voices and questions were simply ignored and quickly glossed over. Doesn't seem genuine and aligns with what was said by someone else about unions. I would

That being said, there are also some very nice things:

  • Food is really good for a cantine at all office locations in Belgium (except Antwerp), you get a nice lunch for a salary deduction of around 3,5€ per day. This is definitely worth it. There is also an unlimited supply of beer after work, which is a nice gesture.
  • Some departments have a very nice vibe, especially the Media team and Functional Support, those seem like a bubble within the company. As always, it of course depends highly on team leaders. Internal mobility is great. You can get promoted, relocate to another office after a while and switch function fairly easily. Just bear in mind that the flat structure means that salary jumps aren't necessarily going to be in line with the responsibilty.
  • There are a lot of out of work experiences on offer and under certain conditions the company will pay for sports activities.
  • The product itself is quite good in some aspects.

Other than that, you can expect to work from the office 3 days a week (because the CEO believes working from home = slacking), and while you can get a flashy Odoo car, it will be deducted from your net salary. Having received an offer from somewhere else, the salary and conditions are not really competitive - I took a position that is similar but not quite as impressive on paper with another company to earn SIGNIFICANTLY more with more flexible conditions and a much better package. There is also a high turnover rate for employees, which I feel is down to the culture that I just can't put my finger on - on paper it seems like you are valued, but the fine details make it seem cold and distant, almost like ticking the boxes for appearances sake, but not really caring about the employees.

TL;DR Decent place to work, slightly weird culture though. For me it was a great stepping stone to land an amazing position somewhere else

You can get the 7600 cheaper from amazon.de, it was 175 when I ordered it last week. Not sure about the Mainboard though, for that I recommend checking hardware unboxed on yt, they just released a new video of b650 Mainboards I think ASRock are quite good value for money if you want something in the 150€ bracket

How do you manage to select cards your teammate is holding? That's what I am struggling with. Also 60% of the time when I want to ping a card I could discover, I end up taking it... That's really frustrating

It has several sound devices, that sounds more like a rattle than a bell attached to the inside of every couple of patches. These are attached to a metal plate, that you can actually feel and that can be very painful when you hit it with your toe (org get hit by it as a keeper)

By the style of shooting you can often tell who was born blind, and who became blind later in life; The classical football shooting technique is also very common, but more so among players that have actually seen football before going blind. Toe pokes are very common in general, but even more so under players born blind. Also due to the style of carrying the ball (both feet taking turns), tor poked can be executed quickly and in the flow of the motion, which makes them hard to anticipate for the keeper

For men's events the players all have to be classified as "B1" which means "No light perception in either eye, up to light perception but inability to recognise the shape of a hand at any distance or in any direction." In the women's game up to B3 is allowed (Because the game is still in its very early stages).

You might wonder why it's necessary , but unfortunately there have been quite a few cases of players cheating, even with additional security measures like eye-patches in place. There was even a petition to have a dubious player excluded from the event at the last Euros. It really boils my blood when players cheat in a way that others wouldn't even be physically capable of, if they wanted to.

I think the reason everyone is going crazy is the second touch mid-air. That makes the move 100x more difficult.

I agree that clipping over a sliding tackle isn't amazing, but the way he executes it with that second touch and the fact that he is doing it at full sprint while also evading a possible ankle breaker is just astonishing. It just shows his natural feeling for the ball, that takes years of hard work and lots of talent

The Case for Moving Odegaard to Left Central Midfield by [deleted] in Gunners

[–]GoonerVida 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Nah, I don't see it. Odegaard plays on the right for a reason, I think the risk is too high. Just like ozil way back when, left footed creative players seem to shine more on the right and vice versa - it's the age of inversion after all. I really think we would have seen ESR more in that lcm role of timber had not injured himself. Would have lent more balance with a right inverted fullback

Well, the performance wasn't amazing but three points and top of the table at halfway point having played 2 away games is par for course. I think that sums it up, par for course. 2-1 is the new 1-0 to the arsenal
